Torres is getting a puppy! (Of course, I could see Gibbs getting a dog - but my $ is on Torres).

If I was still watching I would have skipped this episode.

As an animal person I did find this disturbing. Ironically I just recently finished The Found Dogs, which was the follow up on the dogs rescued from Michael Vicks property.
As for the episode itself, I am wondering with all the rumors circulating about Marks desire to leave or cut back I am wondering where they are going to go with all this.... a few other thoughts but a little pressed for time now...

Just a few quick thoughts I too found the episode very disturbing. I own a recue dog that came from an abusive situation. Gibbs' behavior is that of one who is extremely depressed. Having a pup will help with that.

Having a pup will help with that. To be fair, they've thrown a lot at Gibbs in the last few weeks. First there was the guy who was selling girls to the highest bidder and then Sloane stayed in Afghanistan. Then Fornell's daughter (and his surrogate niece) died. And now you have a dogfighting ring and a guy killing dogs that don't make the cut. These last three episodes have really attacked innocence. It's no wonder Gibbs hit his breaking point. I'm glad he kept Lucy. Hopefully together they can heal.

Lot of speculation in other places that the ending was designed to either lead to a series finale or a cutback in Mark Harmon’s participation?

Better episode than I expected, but I wasn't expecting much. Still, other than the bullpen scene where the 3 musketeers, were discussing destroying the video evidence, the show was well written, and performed. Not a pit-bull fan, but Lucy was cute and belongs with Gibbs.
Glad Kacey was limited this week, less annoyance with the character. Looking forward to see what they are going to do with Gibbs and his suspension, how Phenias' return will be dealt with and what kind of chemistry Mark and Pam have on screen.

Kinda liked the main plot simply because it wasn't a murder mystery this time (at least not a human murder). They used to do cases that weren't murders and that's more or less stopped over the years. BTW the end credits are so small I couldn't read if they had the "no dogs were harmed" disclaimer in the credits. Anybody see it? This show will never make it without Gibbs. There are WWGD? shirts, but there ain't no WWMD?/WWBD?/WWTD? (McGee/Bishop/Torrez) shirts. None of the other characters are strong enough to lead the series.

This show is an established Mark Harmon vehicle. There would have been a possibility that Weatherly, had he stayed, Might have been able to step into Harmon's shoes, but I would have been less likely to watch it.
As much as I like Sean Murry, his character is too weak to pull the lead off. It might be possible to bring in another lead actor, male or female, to fill the shoes of team leader, which could lead to some episodes of friction between McGee and that new lead. However, no matter what kind of "new energy" and "dynamic" at new lead might bring, I think the fan base is too cemented to Gibbs being the main character to accept a new lead.
I would give it a try, but the weakness of McGee/Bishop/Torres is not enough to carry the show alone.
