Whew. Ok so I'm finally able to sit down and write some stream of conscious thoughts for this episode.
- I really liked Patricia Richardson as Delilah's mom. She and Margo could easily be family. She was funny and played the 'free spirit' quite well. I wouldn't mind seeing her again. (Not to mention that I'm pretty sure she's the only mom we've met.)
- After all the fuss about the Bandium (sp?) app, I fully expected it would somehow help them solve the case. Maybe it'll be a runner plot. We'll have to see in future episodes.
- I loved Tim's reaction - 2000 people on that ship and my mother-in-law is the one that found the body.
- Hah, of course Torres watched the Love Boat with his mom. I liked that the ship captain wasn't nearly as amused. I'm sure he gets comments like that all the time.
- The explosion was a little unnecessary but I realize that they were looking for a good excuse to have Mrs. Fielding stay with Tim and Delilah. I know that they want to reuse the sets but there is really no good explanation as to how Tim and Delilah and twin 4 year olds can stay in Tony's old apartment that Tony wouldn't even stay in with Tali. I was really hoping that Gibbs would have given Tim his house and that one of the 'unseen improvements' he had been making was an elevator for Delilah.
- lol Poor Tim got waaaay more information than he bargained for in that interrogation. On top of that, he had to deal with his mom-in-law staying with them and Jimmy couldn't get out of there fast enough.
- I understand why we didn't get to see Tim's kids. Having kids on set is tough enough under normal circumstances. During a pandemic is even harder and this was filmed well before vaccination was approved for younger kids. At least we got a mention of Tim's sister.
- I appreciate Parker showed up to support McGee (or be nosy) and his advice to not stay neutral forever turned out to be good advice. This was also the first time he was mooching food in this episode.
- The joker card was a nice red herring to point to the cruise entertainer. But it did ultimately end up leading them to the evidence they needed to crack the case.
- I liked Tim giving the ultimatum. The only way it would have been better would have been if Tim had returned for his breakfast.
- Judy cracked the case in quite possibly the most 'mom' way possible. When she said that the ginger ale they had on the cruise gives her the 'winds', it made me laugh. That's something my mother would say and she would definitely be indignant if a cruise didn't have her favorite beverage too.
- I love how they pretend that Norfolk isn't 3 hours away by car.
- I appreciated that Torres apologized. I liked how Parker messed with Torres and initially told him he had to stay and do case reports before telling him to do it tomorrow. That was also the second time that Parker was going to mooch food (burgers from Knight).
- The end scene with Delilah and Tim was really nice. I love those two together.
Overall, I liked the episode more the second time around than the first. It was definitely not as good as some of the previous episodes but I'll take even a bad episode of NCIS over many other shows that are on tv right now.
I'm also not missing Gibbs as much as I thought I would. Yeah, the show is different without him but I like Parker. They've given him the gravitas that Gibbs' had as team lead without making him a carbon copy of Gibbs. It's also interesting to be in a position where we're learning about our main team. We've had 18 years to learn everything about Gibbs. It's refreshing to have a new team member (or two when you count Knight) to get to know and it opens up more story-lines. I appreciate that they're peppering in things about him instead of doing a giant info dump. I feel like there's an interesting story behind his comment about not being sure why his marriage failed.
