@ llyan and Hari… if you want to enlighten me you can just put your reply in a spoiler cover…
nas {Spoiler}One of the Hawaii guest stars is John Billingsly, who played a blind photographer in an episode in the 4th season (I had to look up the season; I remember the actor more than the episode). He also played a different character in the LA series, but I haven't seen the episode. The actor has also been in one of the Star Trek series, an episode of The Orville, and a Leverage episode where the team was all remembering an event differently with him in a central role, so he played the same character doing pretty much the same thing in 6 or so distinctly different ways.

thanx, Hari…
I still don’t understand what the spoiler is about, but like I said I’m not an NCISophile, so…….
side note: that’s why they’re called actors!

As it was with the press release for NCIS: Hawai'i, the previews for Hawai'i are very spoilery for the Mothership. Watch at your own risk.

I watched both parts and I still have no idea why any of this was done......
Why did the Raven want to poison the world? What would he get out of a world of dead people? Even crazy people want something but this left me confused.
And since the case was "solved" on Hawaii I didn't get that part either.....I'll just say I'm glad the cast had fun working together, sadly the show sucked....
Mark Harmon is no longer in the opening credits....Some new shots of everyone else....

I wasn’t even going to waste my time writing about this NCIS/NCIS: Hawaii season opener crossover, but Maxine kept telling me if I didn’t my brain would probably explode - so here goes:
first off: WTHeck was that? the entire 2 hours was a convoluted, incomprehensible mess!
are you telling me that this whole “the Raven” storyline/plot to frame Parker was just to get some psycho to Hawaii so he could seek vengeance on an old professor named Staggs, because he felt “abandoned”? seriously!?
both teams put their heads together to figure out who the Raven was, busted him out of prison, and flew all the way from D.C. to Hawaii, just in time for a one day Naval event called “spirit day”? the timing was UN-be-f#*@%-lievable! again, seriously!?
wow! what a stretch of the imagination! 🤔 what hallucinogenic drugs did the writers use to create this “masterpiece”? the hyped up new season openers were such a load of drek! 😖 to say it was disappointing is an understatement - it was gag inducing! what a waste of time! enuf’ said!
now, a few side comments: ~ the acting by everyone seemed overly dramatic and very sophomoric… ~ the Palmer/Knight romance is gonna get old real fast! ~ Ernie needs to take a cold shower - a very, very longggg cold shower! his character is just plain creepy! ~ so “Bam-Bam” is not only a bomb specialist, she can also detect “bad guys” in a park full of people! “The shave ice cart! Those guys are too built to be vendors!” she’s brilliant! (and a really bad actress, too)… ~ the “fight” in the park between all 5 agents and 2 “bad guys” was soooo bad, it was hilarious! ~ a few of us have indicated that we have no interest in seeing more about Lucy & Whistler, and yet the Hawaii writers seem to be highlighting their relationship; last season ended with them, and the season opener ended with them again… this is supposed to be a show about NCIS based in Hawaii - not a romance between two annoying females!
so there it is, my first review of the season - - not exactly 🌈 and 🌹, was it? I know I won’t be watching NCIS: Hawaii any longer - even the location scenery can’t draw me in… and I’m not sure if I’ll tune in to the original NCIS… as much as I like Gary Cole, if this is the best the writers could come up with for Season 20 then maybe it’s time for me to hang it up…

I tried to like this episode. Honest. I really did. I failed. The plotline with Parker wasn't bad, but ultimately it left me cold. But the real problem was the 2nd hour. I've watched Hawaii three times, once all the way through, once about halfway through, and the other time I made it about 20 minutes (maybe). Now I recall why that's true. The comic relief guy isn't funny, the two females in a fling together were pretty much useless in the episode, but were front and center 3 times (opening, middle, closing). The two main male characters (at least I think that's who they are) didn't have big enough roles to find out if they could act, and the main lady couldn't. And the less said about the bomb tech, the better. As to the first hour, it deteriorated into NCIS: LA with a lot of bang and boom. For all its crime fighting, NCIS actually doesn't do a lot of bang and boom (at least not as much as a ton of crime shows). But there it was, bang and boom. And as an aside, my wife noted that the idea of Knight wearing a fairly low-cut top to a prison was a bit much (although my grandson liked it). All in all, not a particularly good effort. Having said all that, I did note that Mark Harmon is no longer in the opening credits. So, I suppose that means he is gone (except maybe for a cameo) and we can move along. I think that may be the most important thing learned from this mess.

Apparently, I liked it more than most of you. It wasn't a perfect episode by any means but it served it's purpose: Parker is back with the team and everyone had a few good moments. Unfortunately I didn't feel the greatest last night and had a hard time focusing on the episode. It was a bit of a blur until I watched it over again today and I enjoyed it.
While I watched, I took down a few thoughts:
- The Previously On voice over was previously (no pun intended) voiced by Mark but for the new season, Sean got those honors.
- Sweeney is an @ss. But the team pranking the FBI by calling the tip line was dumb. Not that it wasn’t entertaining. But it definitely didn’t have the effect they wanted.
- I’m surprised that the FBI didn’t have the team’s phones tapped with the expectation that they might be in contact with Parker. I mean, it's what I would have done.
- I’m not sure why Vivian was hiding that Sweeney was trying to get her to turn in Parker. I mean, I know that she was meant to be a red herring, but it doesn’t make sense when honesty would have been better. She did mention something about Parker being an overprotective jerk so maybe their history (which we have so little of so far) is why she felt she had to hide things from him? (More on that later.)
- Poor Fornell. Socked in the gut by Parker. To be fair, he did sneak up on Parker. Regardless, it’s good to still see him on the show. I’m very glad that just because Gibbs is gone that we don’t lose our occasional dose of Fornell.
- And it totally makes sense that Sweeney was the one who forced Fornell out. I love the glee with which Fornell spoke when he talked bout pulling one over on Sweeney. I'm right there with Fornell. Sweeney needs to be taken down a peg or two.
- I like Ernie’s character on Hawai’i but he’s really creepy when it comes to Knight. He’s way too much of a fanboy over her.
- Vivian’s excuse of “I lied to you because you would go crazy in the past for people lying to you” didn’t make any sense. Maybe we'll get more when they expand on her and 'Parks' relationship as the season goes on.
- I liked Sammie and Fornell together. I also really just liked Sammie. The guest actress took a bit part and did a great job with it.
- I liked Knight calling Torres out for busting her chops for whatever her relationship is with Jimmy but not doing it to Jimmy was a fun scene. I particularly enjoyed his rebuttal to Knight saying that she and Jimmy were just friends. “We are just friends. You and Jimmy are something else.” And I liked that Knight assumed that Torres was getting protective of her and how he set her straight that he’s protective of Jimmy. It reaffirmed that Torres and Jimmy have gotten to be good friends.
- Knight’s boyfriend Rocco sounds perfect: one fantastic dude, cool, kind, funny but in a corny kind of way, smart, quite handsome I would say excessively so. He’s an all around great guy. Can I get me one of those?
- I watched Kasie as she watched Palmer talk and you could see the light bulb going on as she realized who “Rocco” really was and how her pomato plant bit the dust. Her little "Rocco?" and Palmer's shrug at the end behind Ernie's back was funny.
- The chase/shootout wasn’t the most spectacular they’ve ever done on the show and let’s just say that Teri Polo didn’t look like a natural gun-wielding cop. But it moved the plot along and allowed the Raven to escape... into the NCIS Hawai'i episode, which I won't be posting thoughts on, mostly because it was a pretty straight forward 'find the bad guy episode.'
Some thoughts on the Raven.
o He had the potential to be a good, long-term villain. He machined a fairly complex scheme from prison with the nerve agent that almost killed Jimmy and Kasie. Is that realistic? Probably not. But it was entertaining.
o And I kinda appreciated the 'chaos for chaos' sake' motive. It would have made him a hard villain to deal with if they had him occasionally return over the season. o He needed out of prison and disgracing Parker was his ticket out. The team getting him released as ‘live bait’ just made his escape a whole lot faster. Not sure that was his actual plan but, he clearly had the nameless henchmen in place to take advantage of it.
o His whole discussion with McGee and Knight was a confession. The Raven gets off on creating chaos and panic.
o I’m not sure how the Russian Mobster could have died a year before Maxwell worked for him. Of course, Maxwell could have been lying. I’m preferring to think that its more of a Dread Pirate Roberts situation. Maxwell worked with him, then manufactured the Russian Raven’s death and then stepped in as the new Raven. Maxwell could have even been pulling the Russian mobster’s strings just because he could.
o I’m not going to get into the Hawai’i episode except to say that I think they took a good villain and caught him too easy. Maybe he'll be like the Russian spy on NCIS Nola (Eva Azarova) who kept turning up even after she had been caught. So maybe he'll turn up again. The showrunner already alluded that there's more to the Raven than meets the eye, so I guess we'll see.

Had a similar reaction to this episode (or episodes, since it's basically a 2 parter) as most in here.
A bit of a hot mess to me. So all this mayhem was because The Raven felt abandoned by is teacher/instructor/mentor? Seriously!? They should have just kept his motivation as someone who hates society and wants to cause as much chaos as possible. Seems to be a LOT of hoops to jump through and make happen just to basically get revenge on one guy who wronged him years ago.
Here's something that I wondered about. The baddies used signal jammers to keep our good guys from communicating with one another (if that happened to me, I would immediately scrub the mission and return to base). But anyway, why didn't they use something like that so The Raven's handheld device couldn't communicate with the bomb? Though I did kinda enjoy that "Bam Bam" lady. I hope she comes back at some point.
Great seeing Fornell. Hope he comes back again later on. Didn't like NCIS:Hawaii tech guy creeping out on Agent Knight. At first his crushing on her was kinda/sorta cute. Now it's just weird and creepy. Stop it, already. Though that Rocco guy sounds kinda nice. Hope to see him later on in the series.
Still don't get why Vivian didn't tell Parker she was stringing sketchy FBI boss along. Her explanation didn't make a lot of sense to me. Though I'm sure it was just the writers throwing at a red herring at us to think she was working for The Raven. Still didn't like it.
At least Parker is back and working with his team again. So there's that. Hopefully the writing gets better as the season goes along.
