o.k. - let me get this straight:
the son-in-law, Victor, tried to kill his father-in-law, 🥴 Felix, so the daughter, Arlene, would collect a life insurance policy as her father’s beneficiary? all this because he was in to the bookie for a gambling debt?
so, he planned to get his hands on his wife’s $$$ - how? I guess he’d have to kill her, too, assuming he’d inherit her $$$ after she was dead… boy, is that dumb - or what!?
also, why would Felix contact Victor to tell his daughter he was safe, and tell him what motel he was at? why wouldn’t he just contact his daughter directly? another dumb move!
just my opinion, but the actress playing the daughter wayyy overacted the scene where they arrested her husband - it literally had me 🙄…
🤔 this episode was nonsensical, so how should I grade it? eta: just for the record, I actually don’t bother to grade the episodes any longer; I prefer to choose a “grade” using my written words…

This was a weird one! I did enjoy it, particularly the twists with Felix. He was just kooky enough that I was guessing what was real with him and what wasn't. I definitely suspected the son-in-law when he said he was in gamblers anonymous but I spent most of the episode trying to figure out if someone was trying to kill Felix or if he was trying to frame his wife.
The new Sec Nav had an interesting progression. She definitely started out unlikable but became more sympathetic over the course of the episode. I still don't like her as much as Sec Nav Porter though. Maybe if we see her again, she'll grow on me.

One of the better episodes this season. Liked the nutty husband and, as with Hari, figured out the bad guy almost instantly. Hope they do more with "Bud" as the Russian gambling house owner and his buddy Zero. They were kinda fun. My grandson has been keeping track of Knight's unbuttoned buttons. His comment this week was that the blouse without buttons was better. Ah, to be young again.

Ok, I really must be getting to be a softie in my old age. Yes, this episode did have problems. But I still liked it. Maybe because despite someone trying to kill someone, it was kinda/sorta lighthearted(?)
I liked the guy who played Felix. Reminds me of a former coworker, actually. Though I ain't buying the "opposites attract" stuff to this extent. I can see SecNav lady and this dude maybe being friends -- but definitely not married. Unless maybe she lost a bet or something and had to marry him. One thing that kinda bothered me though. If they did any sort of background check on her before she became SecNav, they would find that her husband was (at least at one time) deeply indebted to a shady Russian bookie. You'd think that would disqualify someone from getting that sort of classified clearance to become Secretary of the Navy.
Speaking of said shady Russian bookie -- so, Bud Roberts is working undercover these days. Nice disguise. Heh. It does seem strange they would cast him in that role. Yes, i know shows recycle actors all the time. Ever watch Matlock? Seems like they would do that every freakin' season. So I get that part. But it's not like we haven't seen him in his JAG persona recently before. Wasn't he on a couple of times just 4-5 seasons ago as Bud Roberts? So it seemed kind weird to have him in this role just to say a couple of lines or so. Oh well, maybe he wanted to do it(?)
And yeah, it wasn't difficult to figure out who the actual murderer was. I thought it was him like about the first 5 seconds I saw him. Plus he would have had access to Felix's phone. I actually kinda wished they'd pull a twist and make it that the SecNav really *was* trying to kill him. Gambling away a daughter's college fun wouldn't make me very happy. Oh well. Maybe some of us have been watching too long -- just appears so easy these days to generally to pick out who the bad guy was.
I did like Nick's line when asking the hotel desk clerk for the hotel log. "He's killed 7 hotel workers...all of them desk clerks." Sorry, that made me chuckle. Liked most of the banter between the crew also. Guess that's why I liked it probably more than I should.
Would have given it an A-. But knocked down a couple of points for the unrealistic marriage and foreshadowing the murderer much too easily. B grade for me. By the way, who comes up with those poll questions/lines? I always think they are quite clever.

as you can probably tell from my post, I didn’t care much for the episode, brgjoe, but I must admit I thought Torres’ line to the desk clerk was pretty funny, too, and his deadpan delivery was perfect! 😂
and, the other guy who played the Russian clerk, Zero, at the pawn shop/bookie joint was pretty funny, too… both of those scenes were rather amusing…

Not sure what to say about this episode. It had a couple of good points, but seemed to fall too flat for me. We had 2 possible killers (other than the point where he could have been doing it to himself to frame his soon-to-be ex-wife) - a smarmy assistant who could have been trying to protect his boss from the (ex?)gambling model train fanatic, and the smarmy son-in-law who, until his back-sliding admission, could have been trying to get back what Felix stole from the college fund. Overall, I liked Felix, Zero, and Bud re-imagined much more than the rest of the characters. My wife found the whole night too boring, as it was putting her to sleep. (Maybe she is the anti-Nas, and NEEDS the explosions, along with over-the-top action to keep her interested)

The poll quotes are all me. I keep a scrap of paper and a pen at hand when I watch the episode and write down the funny lines as they're said. Some episodes are easier to find 5 quotes than others! I'm glad to hear you like it!

Ok, I really must be getting to be a softie in my old age. Yes, this episode did have problems. But I still liked it. Maybe because despite someone trying to kill someone, it was kinda/sorta lighthearted(?) I often say, that even with flaws, NCIS is still pretty darn enjoyable each week. Even with flawed cases, I enjoy watching our team work the problem and catch the bad guys.
I kinda got the impression that as she grew up, his goofy/spacy personality grew less endearing. She did say that he was a good father and it might have been a case of 'staying together for the daughter.' But they had been steadily growing apart to the point that she finally kicked him out and asked for the divorce.
I meant to write about the security concerns to when I first responded. Having a spouse with a known gambling problem would be something that would turn up during the vetting process before she became the Sec Nav. And a gambling problem with a shady Russian parlor owner would be the equivalent of neon warning lights saying stop and turn around. She'd never have gotten the position with her husband's gambling issues.
I did like Nick's line when asking the hotel desk clerk for the hotel log. "He's killed 7 hotel workers...all of them desk clerks." Sorry, that made me chuckle. Liked most of the banter between the crew also. Guess that's why I liked it probably more than I should. That made me laugh out loud, especially the kid's expression. When Torres said that, his face fell and he looked pretty worried!

I don't think security in our government is what it used to be, and there's examples in both parties which do not need to be discussed in this thread. Within the NCIS universe, Clay Jarvis was a lobbyist, which definitely indicates that he might not pursue the interests that are best for the Navy or the country.
Torres wasn't just having fun with the clerk; he was intentionally scaring him so that he'd be more helpful in providing access and information that could easily have required a warrant. I don't feel like going back and reviewing at the moment, but was it explained how access was gained to the nerve agent used on SecNav's husband? Was the son-in-law one of the other 11 people who had clearance to reach it or did they just ignore that?

I think they had some throwaway line that the poison was obtained by the husband through "the black market".
I've heard others say it really isn't that hard to get anyway. But I have no idea.
