Vanilla turned to chocolate.
Batting practice. Oh boy! He IS ambidextrous.
Jack: He played us. Gibbs: Game's not over. Does this mean the case will be coming back to exonerate Fornell? (Even though he DID know Mary gave description of black man in his 40s back then)
As soon as I saw Hicks at the batting cages, I had a feeling that it would be revealed he was a switch hitter. But it still took me by surprise! I can't recall any other episode ending where NCIS didn't get their man. This episode might not have had a 'To Be Continued' tag but this is definitely not the last we've heard of this case and Gabriel Hicks. First of all, Gibbs got played and he hates getting played. He's going to get Hicks one way or another. And wouldn't that be an interesting story arc for this season. Hicks used Gibbs to get out of jail and starts killing again. They already said it took a year to get him the first time, why not the rest of the season to get him a second time? Secondly, they were dropping some anvils with Torres. All of Hicks' victims were powerful and physically fit men and they conspicuously pointed out Torres' physical shape, several times. What better way to shove it into Gibbs' face than to kill one of his own people? This could be very interesting...

why do they (in this case Mary Smith's nephew) always run??? (this one was particularly funny because he had no place to go; looked like that whole back area was enclosed!)
eta: this better not be the end of the story! Hicks definitely needs to get caught! (the actor did a great job of looking evil in the closing scene, didn't he?)
question: how is Fornell going to be exonerated after this? until they prove Hicks was exactly what Tobias said he was, his ass is grass with the FBI!

As soon as Ducky & Jimmy found out the victim was killed by a lefty I wondered if Hicks was both.
Would hate for another person to die while Team Gibbs [and Fornell] get him again.

My son writes righty but bats throws dribbles and kicks lefty - as soon as I saw the batting cages I knew he would bat lefty and with him going there, knowing they were there he was letting them know they were played.
I thought the episode was very good and not over but I do feel a little bad that Fornell was complicit. My favorite recurring character ... not what I wanted. I do like that he wanted it out though.
Not over at all.

In the Poll I went with B. I rarely hand out As.
I hope Fornell will be OK but I'm really glad the writers/show runners took this leap. It was much more bold than anything we've seen in YEARS!

10 years ago Jimmy would still have been there but was he at work to assist the fill-in ME? Not if the body went to the city morgue where the fill-in worked. Most likely the guy was doing double duty. This also should have fallen in the time period when Ducky had Dr. Jordan Hampton as the person he would call to fill in.Switch hitting doesn't require a person to be ambidextrous. This is something I really didn't like in this episode. Fornell is supposed to be a good investigator, but a good investigator gets the facts and finds a suspect who fits those facts rather than target a suspect and find facts that fit and discard those that don't. Bullying? A little teasing is bullying? It was a paint store.Judge should have been telling him that one more word would get him contempt of court. And has planted evidence (ep with Forrest Gump of IEDs)And any real reporters would be pressing him on whether he would be filing a lawsuit.Even if they get a correct conviction, it doesn't change that Fornell illegally buried evidence. Even if he turns out to be right, he was right as a dirty cop. There is no exoneration from that.

so, does this mean that we won't be seeing Joe Spano on the show any longer?

nas Yeah, right. This is NCIS. Even though he made the big plea about how it would ruin him and his career, he won't have any repercussions. Heck, even death doesn't keep the regular guests away. They may mention something about it in the future episode where they do nail this guy, but other than that we'll never even hear about it again.

Well they didn't end the show with Fornell saying he was going to retire and fade off into the sunset. In fact, it was left very open. Between not saying what was going to happen to Fornell and revealing that Hicks was a switch hitter, I can say for certain that this is not the last of Fornell and this case that we've seen.

I write and eat left handed, but I throw, swing a bat and an axe right handed. (I can also swing the bat and axe left handed, just can't throw left handed)
I knew that had no bearing on the murder when Palmer and Ducky made the observation.
What a convoluted episode. Nick being childish, picking up where Quinn left off picking on Bishop, No Gibbs in the lab, this was poorly conceived, executed, and presented. Major step down from previous episodes. And that's saying a lot since the previous two weren't that good either. I have to totally disagree. I thought it was a pretty well done episode even though I suspected from the beginning he wasn't really innocent. So far I'm liking this season very much. When Ducky said the killer was left handed I said big deal, he could have used both hands, then you can swing the weapon anyway you want, that was a stretch, but I did like the episode, reminded me of Law and Order, can't wait till next year when they get rid of looney tunes.

If Toby is convicted of anything would that not also mean lots of other cases he has worked on could be overturned on a technicality?

Not a bad episode (any episode with Fornell is automatically not a bad episode). Still don't like the new girl and am getting tired quickly of the "profiling" bit and the profiling jokes. This looks to be a recurring arc and NCIS has a history of not doing long arcs well, so I'm concerned that this will be one of those. Presume a February sweeps wrap (?) because I suppose they'll use the May sweeps to say good bye to Abby. All in all coulda been better coulda been a lot worse.

Having played baseball for 20+ years in my youth (back in the dark ages), switch-hitter was the first thing I said to my wife when the "left-handed" remark was made. I have a feeling that the old lady actually DID lie, and Hicks paid her the other $200 or threatened her, or maybe had a middle-aged black accomplice (wife thinks the store owner, I'm not leaning that way yet). The team is already working on trying to solve the other 4 cold cases, so they can get Hicks for 1 or more of those.
