On the entire bodyguard issue 0 don't you think Gibbs should have notified the bodyguard while they were on the way to get Kayla somewhere safe - if they had time to get there they had time to get her (and everyone else around her) into a safer location ...

1. Clever of him to warn them that Kayla was a target, although really NCIS should have had her under more protection that just a balding middle-aged white guy.
2. Speaking of, I really liked Rod. They didn't need to kill the poor guy. They could have just shot him to incapacitate him thus allowing Gibbs and McGee to swoop in and save Kayla from the would-be assassin. Having said that, Vance needs to give his daughter some shooting lessons. Also, if you're there to assassinate Vance's daughter, maybe shoot her first instead of giving her a chance to run away?
3. So when the British Ambassador turned on Jack, I wasn't surprised. And I also wasn't surprised that Jack had planned to get captured. She was way too calm and collected to be an 'out of control rogue agent torturing an ambassador with immunity.' We saw what Jack looked like when she was out of control last season. This time, she looked like a woman with a specific plan.
4. Lava lamp encryption is actually a real thing. (I googled it.)
5. I liked the reunion with his daughter but it would have been nice to have his son Jared there too.
6. I've said it before but I like Kasie. I know people are complaining that she's too much like Abby but I think (hopefully) that's on purpose. She's coming into a job to replace someone that is irreplacable. McGee told her that Abby like to wind up to the big reveal, so Kasie is trying to be Abby and do things like Abby did them. I think at some point, someone is going to tell her to be herself and everyone else can deal with the change and Kasie will grow into herself.
1. I agree, but they explained it away as a compromise because she still insisted upon going to class. 2. The least they could have done is given Rod a phone call to let him know there was an imminent threat and he should get her to a place of safety. As far as shooting, I also find it hard to believe the guy could hit Rod right between the eyes and then not be able to even graze Kayla. 3. I was thinking that Bello wasn't nearly as bad of an actress as it appeared when apologizing upon finding the email and sure enough she was a good enough actress to play Jack not being a great actress. 4. But if the encryption was coming from the remote facility, McGee should have been able to just cut the internet connection to the plant to beat it. 5. Probably either couldn't get the actor or didn't want to pay him. 6. I was thinking similarly - someone soon telling her to make it her own job instead trying to do Abby's job. Similar to MASH years ago when Col. Potter told Klinger the same thing when he was trying to be Radar instead of just being the company clerk.

On point 2, Rod saw the guy coming, and was getting up to protect Kayla. That bullet was meant for her, and he did his job in taking it for her. Apparently the assassin just isn't good when targets (and he) are moving.

yeah, well, if they’d have done what you suggested, luckysmom, they wouldn’t have been able to have that super dramatic shootout scene resulting in the murder of yet another innocent NCIS agent - not to mention endangering the lives of dozens of students sitting in the quad... (would it have been so hard to just shoot the guy in the shoulder instead of putting a bullet in his head?)
that whole scene was total bull—-t! I thought that when I first watched it and the more I think about it the madder I get... 😡
I am soooo sick & tired of all this senseless violence depicted on NCIS (and most every other show on tv)! I know I have the option of not watching, and I’m getting very close to exercising that option... there is so much violence - and insanity - in the real world I live in, I don’t need to see more of it depicted in what I watch on tv...

Anyone else notice Kayla isn’t attending Georgetown? That University quad was the fictional Waverly U where Red Cell and (I think) Twisted Sister (McGee’s sister) took place?

good memory, good eye, good everything, NewBe!
to be honest, I couldn’t tell you if that was the quad at a local high school, the quad at UCLA, or a Hollyweird set... 😉
they all look the same to me - a few tables scattered around a concrete patio with students sitting at them...

I want to say the quad in Red Cell was larger than this one. But it could be that it was just on screen more and looked larger. Also, I don't remember the quad being featured or even shown in Twisted Sister.
That being said, I'm not familiar with the colleges in where they are located. Bob will have to enlighten us on that subject. It would not surprise me to discover they used actual local colleges to film those scenes. Cheaper than building an outdoor set for just one scene. But then again, if a local studio had a college quad on their lot, then they could have used that. Again, not familiar with the local area to know.

They film all of their college scenes at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita so it's the exact same quad that was shown in Red Cell and Twisted Sister. They were also on Waverly's campus too. You can just see the Waveryly sign behind Tim when he's shooting the would-be assassin. Either the set design folks didn't get the memo that Kayla was going to Georgetown or (more likely) they didn't want to pay for the rights to show Georgetown's logo on the banners and just went with their go-to school.

That episode Waverly University. It was the same setting for Sarah McGee's college in Twisted Sister.
I have some memory of that setting not being a college at all but something on the Paramount (?) lot.

Found College of the Canyons on Google maps, got a good look at the campus and the quad. From over head it looked like the one in "Destiny's Child" but not in "Red Cell", so I looked for a larger Quad on campus. Couldn't find one. So, pulled out season 2 DVD's and watched the paint ball chase in "Red Cell". TV magic. The angles they shot the scene in "Red Cell" made the Quad look larger. The way they shot the scene in "Destiny's Child" made the quad look much smaller.

Thanks all for the shooting location of Waverly U.
Annoying that they make note of Kayla getting into Georgetown and then have her go to the non-existent Waverly.
Also annoying was dripping he plan to go to the Naval Academy. With her father the director of a federal agency it should have been no problem for her to get a letter of recommendation from an elected official. Maybe from the SecNav too.

Sticking to cannon has never been a priority for this production . . .
HOWEVER
She could be attending Georgetown to get her law degree, then join the Navel Academy to become an officer, then join the JAG corp. . .
NOW
You have a JAG/NCIS spinoff waiting to happen in ten years. Waverly could simply be a stopover to get a few credits easily and cheaply before heading off to G-Town. I know, she probably has scholorships and Daddy might be able to afford it, but still, I'd opt for easier classes for the basics before heading off to spend big bucks on my major. Just me.

Yep, all college shots that I have seen over the years were done at College of the Canyons, here in Santa Clarita. My son used to get to see them filming quite a lot, since he went there for 2 years in high school and took classes for his first couple years of college, before shipping off to UC Santa Barbara. My wife took some night classes there, too, and can always recognize where they are filming their school scenes - at least the outdoor ones, since the ones that were in a dorm a few seasons back were probably sets at Valencia Studios (across the street from my office, but I have never been able to sneak over there and wander around the sets or backlot...)
