Checking on all my board buddies ... Corona update. How is everyone affected?
I am a nurse in a Pediatric office. Children do not seem to be severely affected (no one is saying they are not positive, just don't get very sick). I am sure I will be exposed and based on my track record confident I will be okay
I am in between the people who are blowing this off or preparing for a zombie apocalypse. Take it seriously especially high risk groups, but I am not buying 4 years worth of toilet paper.
I am very worried about the economic realities for so many people

I’m not around people much due to being a pet sitter. Using disinfectant wipes to open doors, touch elevator buttons and anything else that’s not specifically mine.

I have returned recently from Walt Disney World. It was very crowded, but we used lots of Hand Sanitizer.
The school district I work for has a plan in place. I hope we don't have to use it.

Luckysmom, thanks for starting this thread. One of my nieces is a nurse in a big city ER. I always worry about and pray you folks who take care of the rest of us. Prayers for you and everyone here.

So far I'm good. I get my groceries delivered, and only leave the house when absolutely needed (aka appointments), so basically I'm already in self-quarantine, even though I'm healthy. But I'm currently having no medical insurance, so I hope I stay healthy.
Using normal paper wipes when out to touch elevator buttons, open doors etc, putting them in a plastic bag while still out and threw it in the trash upon arriving home; and the moment I was home I went washing hands before touching anything including my cats.
Disinfect is nowhere available to buy anymore, I'm running out of it soon.
My county has 17 people who are infected as of today; the county next to me is the one with the most infected with 443 and 2 deaths.

So far so good here. We don't have any confirmed cases in my area although they did just close two schools out of an abundance of caution due to a potential exposure to someone with the virius. Lots of hand santitizer in my office building, lots of hand washing (and hand lotion to combat dry skin because of hand washing) and we've been told to limit in-person meetings, eliminate business travel, and stay home if you have the hint of the sniffles. Probably the worst thing is that allergy season is kicking in. So just when my eyes and nose are at their itchiest, I have to try to not touch my face!
A lot of people are complaining about how they think everything is so overblown but as far as I'm concerned, a little caution now could keep this thing from getting so much, much worse. As Benjamin Franklin said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

I'm fine, but mildy worried about my siblings. I'm 70, but female. Both my brothers are older, 4 and 6 years. One has mild respiratory problems, so I'm concerned about him. The eldest is in a retirement home in Boulder, so he's a tad nervous. He had a serious head injury, and I'm a bit concerned about where he is living, but he's a bit of a loner, so hopefully he'll be OK. I have nothing to do with medicine, except to take my pills as prescribed, so I have no idea if this is overblown or not. This link is a bit of explanation about how it all got started which I found it very interesting. www.reuters.com/article/us-swinefever-china-epidemic-specialrepo/special-report-before-coronavirus-china-bungled-swine-epidemic-with-secrecy-idUSKBN20S189

We have four cases so far in MN, but the UofM has cancelled in-person classes. I was just at Costco this AM when it opened, and one would think a major blizzard was coming (it is 38 and rainy in the Twin Cities). Lines to the back of the store. No TP, almost out of stock of paper towels (I got one of the last packages - I actually needed them), no disinfectant wipes, etc. I was there because I adopted a dog last night and I wanted to get a few things for her. I am a bit concerned as I take immunosuppressants (I have a couple of auto-immune diseases), so I am in one of the high-risk groups. My company has banned all non-essential travel and did a dry run of having all of us work from home last Friday. Lots of folks in quarantine though, because they have been exposed.

nas reporting in from the desert🌵land...
ever since my “mobility problem” kicked into high gear, I haven’t been doing much going out - grocery shopping, doctor appointments, and taking myself to lunch from time to time is about the extent of it... unfortunately, travel of any kind is a thing of the past... 😕 I’m glad I saw what I did, when I did! so, one might say I’ve been “self-isolating” for some time...
the cancellation of large gathering group events (like the Paley), sporting events (like March Madness, MLB Spring Training, and the NBA games), school closures, the plunge in the stock market, etc., etc., etc. is soooo depressing!
and mass hysteria which results in the depletion of things like toilet paper, hand sanitizer, sani-wipes, and other such items from grocery store and big box store shelves is downright frightening! for the life of me I cannot understand the reasoning of the people who do this... if you asked them, I bet they couldn’t tell you exactly why they are buying this way...
I don’t know how long this pandemic will last and how far reaching the results will be - the domino effect of all this will be incalculable!
just hang in there, my friends, and know that I’m keeping good thoughts for all of us...

It is really depressing here in the NYC area. My husband and I both said we are starting to feel like we did in the aftermath of 9/11.
In addition to the health worries so many people are going to suffer - everything is shut down, closing. Layoffs have started already in the travel industry, and with all the sporting events, Broadway, the Met closed and cancelled so many people will either be furloughed or just not work ... My local township though there are positives - they are trying to get volunteers so if the schools are closed health care workers can work, and volunteers to help elderly, immunocompromised or whomever needs it get things dropped off ...

I was due to be off this week Thursday/Friday and only work three days a week now anyway, so would have done LA PaleyFest and back at work next Wednesday. Late cancellation of PF Wednesday night and phone holding to cancel things at last minute into the night, meant I did not bother going in on Thursday but rather than waste another annual leave day I was going in today, Friday. Then got an email saying my work space was closed due to a guest worker presenting with symptoms and awaiting a COVID19 test result, so they are doing a deep clean and I get today off as well, on them. Obviously not then due back until Wednesday but to keep a look out for further update. Some people had been split into two teams, working from home for two weeks and then swapping round in case this situation arose. My work as a printer means I cannot work from home, bit difficult taking the large printer home. Semi government establishment, so I do get paid. I am actually an OAP now, so pensions are in payment as well. I live on my own, always have so self isolation should not be difficult mentally if it comes to that.
