Not the best nor the worst episode in a while. Wondered why they had Fornell in the episode. Glad to see him (always glad to see him), but he didn't do much. Still trying to get used to the new girl. Actress seems to do the part well, but just not sure what I think of the role. As with a couple of people above I don't know how they are going to use Gary Cole (unless he's there to take Gibbs' place in episodes Harmon sits out). I wonder if the grieving husband will have been one who sends money to the killer. All in all coulda been better, coulda been worse. I seem to be saying that a lot about the show recently. And I dearly loved 'Nudist Colony in Seattle" crack.

rather than an “eta” to my previous post, I just decided to write, “and another thing!”:
the idea that the “bad guy” is a “contract killer” makes no sense!! the who?, how?, what?, and why? of having all the victims - including Gibbs! - killed thru some kind of “murder-for-hire broker” is just unbelievably weird...
apparently Gibbs shooting the guy in the back wasn’t fatal, so we’ll get some sort of explanation in next week’s episode - or not!

The more I think about the cartel, I think it makes sense if Mark is leaving. The cartel got him into ncis by killing Shannon and Kelly... They are trying to finish him off... Full circle

I was hoping they would wrap up the serial killer arc this week--apparently not.
The episodes I like best are the stand-alone "dead marine/petty officer in Rock Creek Park" ones.

The concept of the secret world wide organization manipulating events to suit their political and economic needs isn't original with NCIS.
The idea was used more than once with Elementary and it's the basis for The Black List. The real question then becomes, how are seven seemingly random victims connected to affect local, national, or world wide events.
Having watched the episode twice now, I like the fact that the darker Nick has returned, thought I don't think he will stay. I like that Knight stands up for herself, but I still wish they would write the character better.
I liked seeing Fornell again, and can see where his conversation with Gibbs in the truck could be the catalyst for Gibbs diminished role in future episodes.
I think McGee, at least in the first two episodes, is showing more leadership abilities than in the previous two seasons.
Kasey still gets on my nerves and I really wish they would replace her.
Finally, I can't say I miss Bishop.
Overall it was a good episode and I look forward to next week.

The idea was used more than once with Elementary and it's the basis for The Black List. The real question then becomes, how are seven seemingly random victims connected to affect local, national, or world wide events. I think people are making assumptions that the murders are part of a larger plot without any evidence to prove it (at least not yet.) The only thing we know about the victims is that they were all killed in the same way and they were all killed 100 days apart. Until we know more about the victims (which will undoubtedly be expanded upon in the next episode), they might not have any connection at all. Navis might just be an employer and Lemere took the jobs that were assigned to him. (Basically the contracts give him a reason to get paid for being a serial killer.) I think the only reason why he tried to kill Gibbs is because Gibbs and Marcie caught onto him. Lemere probably would have killed Marcie too if she hadn't gone into hiding after Gibbs warned her.Having watched the episode twice now, I like the fact that the darker Nick has returned, thought I don't think he will stay. I like that Knight stands up for herself, but I still wish they would write the character better. I like Knight so far and I like the chemistry she has with Nick. I think they play off of each other far better than Nick and Ellie did. I'm sure they're still fleshing out Knight's character so I'm eager to see how they continue to develop her.
I liked seeing Fornell again, and can see where his conversation with Gibbs in the truck could be the catalyst for Gibbs diminished role in future episodes. I agree 100% that this is going to be a catalyst for Gibbs stepping back. It also hit me pretty hard when Fornell said that when you lose a parent, you're an orphan. When you lose a spouse, you're a widow but when you lose a child, it's so terrible that there isn't a word for it. A coworker's adult (23) son unexpectedly passed away 10 days ago so that hit particularly hard.
I think McGee, at least in the first two episodes, is showing more leadership abilities than in the previous two seasons. McGee has always been content with allowing others to take the lead. It isn't that he can't be a good leader. He just chooses to defer to others. I don't know if that's a product of McGee's character or Murray's acting or both, but he seems content to be the second banana. But when given the opportunity, both McGee (and Sean Murray) can really shine. He stepped up after DiNozzo left and I think that he'll step up again with Gibbs taking a step back. Personally, I thought he (both McGee and Murray) was great in the first two episodes. This McGee fan is a pretty happy camper right now.

I liked it. 2 things I thought didn’t make sense: (1) Gibbs doing surveillance while “being dead” was stupid & (2) how did the killer not realized he was being followed by a guy wearing the same hat?
Also looking at the scene with Gibbs & Fornell in the truck. I think another spinoff is needed with the two being PI’s. That would be fun.

I have liked Joe Spano since way back in his Hill Street Blues days, when he was a mere child - well, not a child, but a young man, with hair!
his scene in the truck, talking about the loss of a child was heavy... 😢 it wasn’t a long speech, but probably one of the best ever written for Fornell...

Just finished watching. I'd say as soon as they had the killer's face there was a severe limit on how much they could drag it out, so I'm glad they didn't try. I have a feeling that tracking down the source of the money will be an extended endeavor and that's how Lumburgh will manage to stay in the office on a regular basis. Hopefully the money will just be regular contract hits coming from individuals but being routed through that shell company (and probably a few others nested around it). I'm thinking Gibbs outfighting a Seal half his age was a bit over the top, but it's hardly a new thing for the show - he's already been established as Superman.

o.k., I give up, Hari...
1) who is Lumburgh (🤔 a character that Gary Cole played?)?
and......
2) when did Jason Wiles play a Seal?

My wife is with you on the regular contracts on individual people. When she saw that meeting with Marcie and the "bereaved", she felt something was off, like maybe each of them had taken out a contract on their "loved one". She is hoping that is NOT the case, and also hoping that Marcie isn't somehow involved in the scheme that was hatched to lure Gibbs into the fray...

I don’t think your wife has much to worry about, bob... her character was written as a well known established investigative reporter in the area, so it’s unlikely she’s in “kahoots” with the bad guy(s) - there really wouldn’t be anything in it for her...
Pam Dawber did her “thing” with her husband and his show, and now I think Marcie is history with NCIS... and I really disliked the way they wrote her out; one minute she’s hugging and getting cutesy cozy with LJG, and the next thing ya’ know she’s running off to some far off cabin with her pal “Mitch-elle”! it’s as if the writers said, “o.k., we’re done with this character - let’s give her an abrupt, unceremonious sendoff.” really annoyed me... 😖

btw, Maxine says “hi back!” 😊
