"Hopefully the writing gets better as the season goes along."
Doubtful. According to John Truby, a veteran Hollywood writer, script consultant, teacher, and advisor, the writing talent pool in Los Angelas, New York, and Vancouver, where most, but not all, of the major TV shows are produced, is very thin. There is too much content being produced across too many networks, with too few veteran writers running shows and writer's rooms. According to Mr. Truby, the majority of experienced writers are working for the cable networks where writers have half a year to develop a 10-to-13-episode series. (i.e., GOT, Walking Dead, etc.)
Most network writers are inexperienced in story development and have to produce 22 episodes in 9 months. The show runner writes roughly a third if they want to. Usually, the special episodes with "great meaning" or special guests.
The writing will probably remain consistent during the season, (consistently bad) and you will also find that network and studio executives will make sure there are certain "Audience Target Boxes" that are checked off in most scripts. (Such as political and environmental hot topics, politically correct treatment of certain marginalized groups, and COVID will always be mentioned in some form, as well as car chases, explosions, gun fights and fist fights.)
This is now the reality of TV viewing. Enjoy everyone.

I'm so unimpressed with this episode it's not funny anymore. Also making the conclusion a crossover was a bad idea.
New writers are severely needed, probably a new showrunner as well. Because that "Season of Love" comment from Binder is not promising at all.

I have a quick question for somebody - a little help please:
🤔 thinking about the verbal exchanges between Torres and Tennant in this season opener, did they have some sort of “hot ‘n’ heavy off-screen session” in a previous episode? if they did, I can’t recall… but the way their conversations went, with the sexual innuendo, I think I missed something - or just forgot they “did it”…

Not in an episode, but offscreen a few years back, sometime before NCIS:Hawaii hit the airwaves. They also alluded to it in the first crossover. I believe the first crossover had a mention of some conference or training seminar. Knowing this show's respect for the timeline, it was probably while he was supposedly smitten with Bishop.

oh yeahhh - now I remember!
I don’t recall which episode it was, but I do remember some of us questioning when or how long ago did that happen? 🤔
thanx, Hari! I appreciate your quick response…. 😊

I watched it (finally) last night. It was a little underwhelming and stretched the imagination a bit.
I don't care if Palmer and Knight have a relationship but enough with the teen age behavior...
Its great to see Fornell, and have him a little more "normal" but he is not an agent so hard for me to get behind him being in the middle of a shoot out. I still hate what they did to his character.
I am kind of watching NCIS Hawaii to see the conclusion but I have no bond with the show and not really enjoying having to watch it.
