Well, that was interesting. sitting on the peasant wagon, playing a slot app on my phone, there is a tapping on my shoulder. I turn, the woman behind asks me to turn off the app as my gambling is setting a bad example for her child.
I so wanted set a REALLY bad example for her child.
I took the high road and politely explained to her that setting an example for her child is her job, not the job of random strangers. Guessing that you're talking about a 'for fun' app and weren't linked to an online casino, you could have also brought up that with nothing at stake it isn't actual gambling, just a game. If I'm wrong and it was linked to the online casino then I hope you got the big jackpot.

Just a free time-waster. I flip between that and the Kindle, depending on how noisy/distracting the peasant wagon is.

Good for you Sunshine. I don't know how politely I would have responded in that situation. I think I would have said something along the lines of "What the heck are you doing looking at my phone anyway! Don't you have anything better to do?!"

wow - just wow!!
you know, SunshineBoozer, that was some pretty quick thinking on your part, not to mention a very diplomatic comeback...
I don't know what I would have said, but I'm sure Maxine would have come up with some choice words for that "uber-mom"... 😠
there's just one question I have: the slot app on your phone has to be pretty small, right? so how could mother and child see it unless they were purposely looking at what you were doing with your phone?
you might have reminded "uber-mom" that being nosy is setting a very bad example for her precious, impressionable child...

Good for you! If that had been me, I would have been less than diplomatic. I probably would have started with MYOB, and get you nose out of my phone, then gone downhill from there. What the devil happened to personal privacy anyway?

Unreal. I can't believe that she actually had the nerve to ask you to change a game on your phone. Great comeback though.

Well, I may not survive to join you all for next season. My mother-in-law moves in today, staying with us while she looks for her own place. She's a lovely lady. But... we're both slobs and she is OCD, heads will butt.
Approaching a year and we've melded households well. She's much better company than her son and does much of my nagging for me.
The move was precipitated by the death of her husband, we were concerned about her so far away and alone.
Sadly, we were not wrong to be concerned. In the almost year, this poor woman had had a stroke (September), subdural hematoma/brain bleed and the resultant surgery (December) , and now pancreatic cancer and breast cancer in her spine.
This poor woman cannot catch a break.

SunshineBoozer - I am so sorry to hear about all your mother in laws health problems. She had certainly been through a lot in a short time. Glad to hear it melded well.

Sunshine, I am so very sorry to hear of your MIL's issues. I'm am so glad that you are able to be there for her. Remember though, to get care for and take care of yourself. Someone needs to care for the caregiver.

SunshineBoozer, I'm so sorry to read this. I've been in your position. Sending positive thoughts to you and yours, it's a very tough spot to be in. Don't forget to take care of yourselves while you take care of your MIL.

So, I just read that CBS picked up a show called The Code for next year. Here's the description:
Anyone else thinking that this is a JAG reboot without being called a JAG reboot?

Anyone else thinking that this is a JAG reboot without being called a JAG reboot? Absolutely! I expect a cross-over. In other news, CBS is re-booting MagnumPI as well, and calling it MagnumPI (but with a Juliette Higgins).
