Neither a good episode nor a bad one. Had the problem with Vance's daughter figured quickly. The introduction of the friend tipped both my wife and I off as to what was going on. The main plot wasn't bad, but it was also nothing special. Didn't figure the adoption/abduction facet. Did like they way they centered much on McGee, who we remember is a new father. As usual, when they try to do 2 major threads at once they tend to do neither particularly well.

OMG!! how did I overlook this?
I needed to re-watch Family Ties again because something dawned on me this morning - and, yep, there it was! or more to the point, there it WASN'T!
(it really was painful to watch this episode again because the storyline was so unbelievable on so many levels, but I just had to! I must be a masochist...)
we've been discussing the 2 crimes in this episode: 1) the purse shoplifting incident, and 2) the "rescuing" of the 6 month old baby Genevieve...
but what did the show's writers - and we - forget? the MAJOR CRIME!
at the end of the episode it looked like a "happy ending" for Family Bell, didn't it? they can all stop running now, right? and Gibbs looks on with a smile on his face as they all hug one another... awwww, how sweet...
but, we're forgetting something! that "sweet" 15 year old kid, Genevieve, STOLE a CAR and KILLED a man - no! a Marine! - in a hit and run incident!! no further mention of the victim was ever made during this POS episode! what about the "midnight marathoner" who was killed by a couple of joyriding 15 year old girls? what about the family he left behind?
oh, I know, I know! I realize this isn't real life, but if it was that whole episode would not have had such a "happy ending"! 15 or not, that kid would have been facing some very serious charges! (and her bff, Maya, was really gonna need her lawyer daddy now, too...)
😡 only in LaLa Land could it end with hugs & kisses all around...
o.k. - I'm done bitchin' about this god awful episode...

We're in agreement, Nas. No mention of the hit and run after the friend was questioned "It was foggy". "We thought it was a deer that ran off into the woods". No mention that Genevieve even knew it was a man, not a deer.
If the discussion was filmed the production blew it in the editing process. If it wasn't filmed at all THAT'S a huge problem with the writing and the show running for them not having the writers go back and fix it.

thanks, NewBe; it's good to know I'm not alone in my thinking...
I realize there's only so much ground that can be covered in 44 minutes, but this episode sent the wrong message on multiple points (regarding the 4 teenage* girls), and totally overlooked/ignored any followup (regarding the hit and run victim)... im[very]ho, this episode should never have been aired as written...
* - - as long as I'm in a bitchy mood, does anyone else think those girls looked like they were anything close to being teenagers?

The problem with what Genevieve knew is that it's highly possible she found out from her 'parents' about the victim. They may not have gotten specifics, but Federal agents don't show up with questions about the fatal hit and run of a deer, and the agents being NCIS says military victim. Maya gave a full confession more or less with her dad/lawyer present and the convenience store footage shows Maya was driving. Genevieve can be charged as an accessory, but even that is to involuntary manslaughter. Most likely she would have been questioned to see if she verified Maya's claim that they got out of the car and looked but didn't find anything. And yes, deer do often run away without major harm after hitting or being hit by a car and they are in the same weight range as humans. On a side note, I do have a problem with a shattered headlight being the only damage done, human or deer. Oh, and the joyriding, the owner of the car (scumbag with 3 DUI's) was probably so relieved at being off the hook that he probably didn't press charges. Not overly true to life, but definitely typical to the land of television.

Yes it seems like they forgot about something in the episode - the victim and justice. I did not mind the sub plots that much but they needed to address the crime... Other than that the main sticking point for me is that Kayla is going to Georgetown ... a Hoya. As a Villanova alumni thats a killer

another good point, Hari Seldon!
for a man to be hit so hard as to be thrown over that bridge, it would have taken more than being hit by the low-lying headlight of the Maserati...
this episode had more holes than a sieve!

nas Well, beyond that, headlights are not fragile. Outside of intentional vandalism by a direct hit with a hard object (like Kensi's pipe in 'Legend'), I've never seen damage where the only thing broken is the headlight. In fact, I've seen cars after front end collisions where the front of the car is majorly bashed in and the lenses of the headlights are intact. But then, it's just like the windshield a couple episodes ago where the bad guy popped right through and even lived because his windshield was apparently really thin window glass instead of the double layer safety glass required for a car to be street legal.

@ Hari Seldon
that was from the episode High Tide, where Bishop and Torres went undercover... I commented on the guy flying thru the windshield saying he'd either be unconscious - or dead!
it seems the writing in a few of these NCIS episodes have fueled the fires for the return of the "grouchy old nas" ... (tho' I did enjoy Dark Secrets/#15.12, from January 9th, immensely...)
oh well, can't win 'em all I guess... 😕

well, Hari, remember who my role model, my avatar and my bff is! without Maxine I'd be nothing... 😉

Giving Maxine all the credit for you being some something is a bit of a stretch but I get your meaning.
