I've been flipping between NCIS and the hockey game (it's been a gooood game tonight).🏒🏒😱 I'll need to rewatch the episode before commenting.

So, a few thoughts to get the ball rolling. In general, I liked the episode. It wasn’t a “knock my socks off” hour of television. It was average, which in my opinion, an average NCIS episode is still better than a lot of things on tv.
What I didn’t like:
1. I did not like the team’s wallowing over Abby’s departure. I get it. I’ve had long-time coworkers and really good friends leave my company. It changes the dynamics of the office. It changes how you deal with your work day. But she didn’t die, she just left. In the words of my current boss, suck it up buttercup.
2. The case of the week was an afterthought. I’m not surprised nor is even a deal-breaker to my enjoyment of the episode. NCIS has always had episodes that focused more on character than the case. Honestly, that's fine because it’s the characters that I love to watch. The case is usually the vehicle for our character drama. And that’s what this case was. It was what happened while the characters continued to deal with Abby’s departure and Reeve’s death.
3. McGee didn't tell us why he became an agent!
Ok so now onto things I did like.
1. Kacie. I want to be annoyed by her but she’s so endearing. I appreciate that she has her own way of doing things and her pre-flight checklist was kinda cute. I can empathize with starting a new job and wanting to do a good job, especially since she’s got big forensic shoes to fill. The reversing the tape bit was a bit silly but she has a quirky sense of humor and the actress pulled it off.
2. On the same vein, the conversation between McGee and Kacie reminded me of a conversation from way back in season one, where Kate was insisting that it is possible for men and women to be friends without sleeping together. Tim and Tony were both skeptical. I cracked up when Kacie tried to use Tim and Abby as an example only for him to give her the look that told her she was wrong.
3. I liked the sub-story with Bishop agonizing that Reeves just disappeared (ostensibly by MI-6 scrubbing his existence out of NCIS) and lamenting that she didn’t even have a picture with him. She did seem to be the closest with Reeves so it was reasonable that she was still affected the most. I liked that Ducky was able to give her a photo from their trip to Scotland.
4. Speaking of scrubbed from the show, I was curious if they’d keep Pauley in the opening credits and they did. I don’t recall seeing Duane in the credits but I assume he was there, especially since his photo was shown at the end.
5. The episode was packed already but it would have been nice to see Torres attempt to be indifferent about Reeve’s death and Abby’s departure a little more. It would have provided a better pay off for his admission at the end that he missed Abby and that Reeves had been like a brother to him.
6. I really enjoyed the nice call back to Tim’s time as an author. It made me smile to see that he not only bought a typewriter from the lady who broke their headlight but that he was using it to fill out a form. It also confirmed that Rock Hollow did get published eventually even though Tim’s novel had been the source of a deranged fan’s murders. It was also nice to show how much Tim’s life has changed since then. He now has more responsibilities at work plus a family which makes it harder for him to write.
7.Finally, after 22 episodes, Gibbs shows up in the lab. Whatever issues Mark and Pauley had, seeing Gibbs in the lab reminded me that things had been off all season more so than any of the non-encounters in any of the previous episodes. Regardless, I liked his interactions with Kacie and his encouragement to trust her instincts. I liked her response to the favorite drink and her back-pedaling. Needless to say, I don’t think Gibbs is going to get her some iced tea from Detroit any time soon.
8. I particularly liked the last scene, even if it did have the mopey trio in Abby’s lab. I loved how Kacie assumed the bad guy got away and then her excitement when she realized that her first case had resulted in catching a murderer. I liked her enthusiasm and her excitement that she was actually making a difference. If she’s the new forensic tech next season, I think I could handle that.
9. Ending the episode with a classic “Grab your gear” was a nice way to show that life/the show still goes on. I feel like this satisfactorily wrapped up the Abby has left storyline and the show is moving on without Abby/Pauley.

I thought it was Abby and Tony exchanging looks over Kate's head.
Pretty sure it was both. I think Kate had the same conversation with Abby after Tim and Tony gave her an answer she didn't like. I think she thought she'd get a more favorable answer from another woman. And at first she did. Abby said she thought that men and woman could be friends. Kate gave Tony the "I told you so" line so Tony pushed and asked Abby if they could be friends without having sex and Abby added that no, she thought they'd be friends but they would totally have sex too, which was not the answer Kate wanted from Abby. I'll see if I can't find some quotes from the episode. Edit. Found it. Season 2 Episode 15, Caught on Tape Read more at: transcripts.foreverdreaming.org/viewtopic.php?f=193&t=11796

Going to have to respectively disagree with you on this one. Not looking forward to a full season of this. They just simply replaced Abby with Abby mini-me. Get a different personality, a different vibe, something that isn't nutty, or hyper, or bouncing off the walls. It's bad enough they are trying to turn Torres into another DiNozzo, please guys, be original with the character creation.

I wasn't overwhelmed by it either. It was so-so.
What I didn’t like:
1. I did not like the team’s wallowing over Abby’s departure. I get it. I’ve had long-time coworkers and really good friends leave my company. It changes the dynamics of the office. I agree 100% If it were Reeves I could understand. But not Abby
I agree with this too.
3. McGee didn't tell us why he became an agent!
It better not have been to meet girls
Ok so now onto things I did like.
1. Kacie. I want to be annoyed by her but she’s so endearing. I appreciate that she has her own way of doing things and her pre-flight checklist was kinda cute. I can empathize with starting a new job and wanting to do a good job, especially since she’s got big forensic shoes to fill. The reversing the tape bit was a bit silly but she has a quirky sense of humor and the actress pulled it off.
Have to disagree. I tried hard to NOT be annoyed by her. I failed miserably. She's even more annoying than child-like Abby if that's even possible.

She did seem to be the closest with Reeves so it was reasonable that she was still affected the most. I liked that Ducky was able to give her a photo from their trip to Scotland.
I was okay with it. Though it did make me think Ellie had stronger feelings for Reeves than just friends.
4. Speaking of scrubbed from the show, I was curious if they’d keep Pauley in the opening credits and they did. I don’t recall seeing Duane in the credits but I assume he was there, especially since his photo was shown at the end.
The credits didn't change. I didn't think they would with only 2 episodes left.
5. The episode was packed already but it would have been nice to see Torres attempt to be indifferent about Reeve’s death and Abby’s departure a little more. It would have provided a better pay off for his admission at the end that he missed Abby and that Reeves had been like a brother to him.
I was okay with the way he played it.
Loved how Jack suggested he make it a trilogy.
7.Finally, after 22 episodes, Gibbs shows up in the lab. Whatever issues Mark and Pauley had, seeing Gibbs in the lab reminded me that things had been off all season more so than any of the non-encounters in any of the previous episodes. Needless to say, I don’t think Gibbs is going to get her some iced tea from Detroit any time soon.
I liked seeing Gibbs in the lab too, but if Kacie is going to be the new tech, I'd rather not see the lab at all.
Could have done without this scene too.
9. Ending the episode with a classic “Grab your gear” was a nice way to show that life/the show still goes on. I feel like this satisfactorily wrapped up the Abby has left storyline and the show is moving on without Abby/Pauley.
I agree with this. It is time to move on.

I know she's a little overboard at the moment but remember how over the top Bishop was? If (face it, we are assuming that Kacie is going to be the new tech but that's not confirmed in any way shape or form) Kacie is the new tech, then I'm sure her character will find it's feet the more she's on the show. Bishop toned down quite a bit in her first few episodes.

I just got around to watching the episode - at this time of year the NBA Finals are definitely my priority...
there are no comments I care to make about “Fallout” - only a few questions:
1) are we to assume that Abby Sciuto was the only Forensic Scientist working and entirely available for the NCIS, and that Gibbs and only Gibbs was the only one that could decide who should be called in as a temp replacement? no running it thru Vance (or HR) first?
2) if Kacie - a.k.a. “Ka-Ka” - was talking with Abby, then why couldn’t McGee, Bishop and Torres call her or text her or email her, too??? why are they acting like she’s dead and buried and gone for-freaking-ever?!?! 😠

Because she's gone for-freaking-ever. And you're trying to be logical about a show that doesn't follow continuity or cannon, where solving complex crimes is done in less than 43 minutes, and ratings and advertising dollars are more important than common sense or logic. And because she's gone for-freaking-ever.

The thing is, I liked Bishop from the beginning. She was different from Kate and Ziva. Her quirkiness was unique and refreshing. What they have given us with mini-me is a smaller version of the same thing we had for 15 years. You could always give us something older, more mature, quiet, harder to get along with. Someone who will challenge Gibbs, or any member of the team. Someone who is more possessive of their space. ANYTHING, but a different looking ABBY would be greatly appreciated.

My concern with giving us someone like that is that you insert consistent conflict into the team. Unless it gets resolved quickly, then you have the issue of the team fighting themselves and not the bad guys. That's not something I really want to watch. (Although, if you are a Castle fan, I did like the curmudgeon ME Permutter that they occasionally dealt with. He was hard to get along with but he still worked with Castle and Beckett.) If Kacie is the new tech, I'll bet good money that she would challenge Gibbs if she felt she was right. She wasn't intimidated by him at any point of her introductory episodes. My other concern is that the show hasn't really demonstrated a good ability to grow a more 'seasoned' character. Take a look at Quinn's character. She had that 'been there, done that' experience level and had no where to go.

She had that 'been there, done that' experience level and had no where to go. When Weatherly left after 13 seasons, GG tried to "re-boot" the series by adding 2 new full time cast members, and 1 new part time cast member. When you have 42 minutes to tell a story, solve a crime, and continue the development of current characters and try to develop three new characters, then yes, one or more "characters" are going to have no place to go.
Since that time, the let Quinn go, Reeves has now left, leaving Torres of that three, Abby is now gone, and Jack has come in. That's a lot of change in two years. In my opinion, they've decided to take the easy way out and just "re-cast" the part of Abby with another Abby.
I only watched a couple of episodes of Castle, but what I do know is that you can have conflict within the core characters without causing too much disruption. That conflict will frequently lead to mutual, if begrudging, respect, and will deepen the relationship. And to me, that would be 100% preferred to just a different version of Abby.

Finally watched it tonight. You pretty much summed it up. One of the things that really hit me was Gibbs being back in the lab - like you said it made it so obvious how off things were. I will hold out positive hope for Kacey but I hope this is not another immature character - I don't mind quirky but I don't want a repeat ...
