A random question for everyone to put the mood a little lighter since the sad news of David.
what is the longest you have had to wait on hold with customer service?
i just spent three and a half hours on hold. At least the woman was helpful and very nice. 🤷🏻♀️

3 1/2 hours!? Yikes. You are far more patient than I am. Think the longest I was on the phone was like an hour or so, trying to straighten out my mom's cellphone service with US Cellular. And felt much longer. And like in your case though, at least the people on the phone were nice and friendly.
My biggest complaint though is that it's so difficult to actually talk to a human being for customer service now.

Unfortunately, I had no choice to wait, as it was related to my student loans.
Initially I had to listen to a computer automated voice, but thankfully was eventually able to talk to a person. Mind you, I was informed my the computer voice that the average wait time was only 30 minutes. Even though student loans were halted over the past three years, I have still been making monthly payments. I have not had any issues during that time, until now. Somehow between when I made my last payment in late August and now, my personal information was messed up. Until it is corrected, I can’t make any more payments. It wasn’t completely corrected, but I was able to get one step closer. Although, there is a chance I may have to call customer service again at some point. I hope that doesn’t happen though because it wasn’t fun.

Does the IRS count? I am the executor of my mothers estate. 3 hours 55 min on hold - yes I have a screenshot, and they put me on hold to investigate if they refund was sent to the correct address and cut me off ... that was in late June. I found out last week the refund check was stolen and cashed. I wonder the time frame to unravel this.

I wasn’t going to comment on this post, ballerina, because this is a very touchy subject for me, but I decided to chime in…
first of all, Maxine would never, ever wait on hold for 3.5 hours! 3 1/2 minutes is about her time limit! she would throw the phone out the window if I didn’t stop her!
as for me I run out of patience after about 20 minutes - and then hang up… fortunately, it’s never so important that I can’t just call back later…
funny story (not so funny, actually): my credit union has had problems with their phone system for months and they even have a recorded message apologizing for “the inconvenience”… they try to explain on this recording that the new phone system is being installed to “enhance your phone call experience”… what a joke! 😂 this new system has done nothing but “enhance” my annoyance with the credit union and their whole operation! I must say, once I finally talk to a living, breathing person they are friendly and competent - - it’s the getting through to them that’s the hard part!
now, as for you and your experience:
first of all, what phone do you use that you can hold/wait for 3.5 hours? landline 📞 or cell 📱? my landline battery wouldn’t last that long, and my cellphone, even if plugged into the charger, would still go through hundreds of minutes while on hold for that many hours…
secondly, you’re lucky that at some point your hold call didn’t just disconnect and you’d have to start all over again… that happens to me quite often - after waiting for however long, when the call finally connects it somehow hangs up! talk about frustrating!! 🤬
lastly, with regard to your personal information getting messed up: I’m sorry this happened to you, kiddo… 😕 doesn’t say much about dealing with our government institution, does it? I hope you kept a record of your payments! (I’m sure you did!)
it absolutely infuriates me when the “computer gremlins” do updates to my devices in the middle of the night when I’m sleeping! they change my preferences, delete info, and just recently wiped out my entire cell phone account deleting all my minutes, SMS, and data! it literally took me multiple phone calls over the entire weekend to resolve the issues and finally talk to someone intelligible AND intelligent enough to make everything right again… it’s like winning the Lottery to get competent Customer Service these days…
I remember living in the Dark Ages before computers, copiers, cell phones, email, etc…. technology is a wonderful thing in so many ways!
when it works it’s wonderful! 😊 when it doesn’t - - arghhhhhh!

I was using my cell phone and had it plugged in the whole time. Mind you I was concerned that I would be disconnected at some point. I do have unlimited data on my phone, so it shouldn’t be a problem with the minutes. I do keep a record of my payments as does my bank so that’s helpful. Technology can definitely be a good thing, but sometimes it is more problematic, and stressful.

For myself, something like 30-45 minutes, but I just put on the speakerphone and went about my business. I believe I did longer at work, but I was getting paid the same to listen to the hold music as I would doing actual work.

for work I've been on hold for over an hour. But as mentioned I was being paid to take care of this issue while clients were calling me and being put into an endless loop trying to reach me.... I felt for them, I mentioned this would happen and before I ever reached a representative one of the clients called the VP of our company and complained that I couldn't be reached.... He emailed me asking just what the hell was I doing so I forwarded the email from his sorry ass telling me to take care of this. He responded he'd take care of the problem I was to get back to our clients.
I forwarded his email about phoning for assistance to each person who was caught in the loop. It wasn't my fault.... Needless to say the first time he had the opportunity to fire me he did and it was the best day ever....
for myself, less than a half hour is my limit. But student loans, yes, I'd hang out as long as it took

Lasted a half hour a time or two before going on to leading my life. There's a reason there's a baseball bat beside both my phone and computer.
