I liked this episode the best so far. Not much that annoyed me and some past was revealed for one of the main characters. And everyone was (mostly) competent.
I thought the actor who played the hero/deserter was very good. He seemed familiar but I couldn't quite remember from where. This episode kinda reminded me of the NCIS episode where this soldier essentially faked his death and later was found out to be alive (also a Christmas-time episode IIRC). Anyway, I liked it also that it revealed why Mackey didn't really have any love for deserters. I thought that was pretty well done.
Only a couple of things I had an issue with. One was they promised this guy that they would protect Mei from the evil doer. Now you'd think they would have someone at least monitoring their house. But NOOOOO...they lose track of her and come in the nick of time to save the day (or at least save her from shooting the alleged perp). And while I am not a lawyer (nor do I play one on TV or on the interwebs), I would think just getting married would not prevent someone from being extradited back to the US. Might prevent him from being deported, but I wouldn't think would prevent him from being hauled back to the US by our authorities. But hey, like I said I ain't a lawyer -- so could be 100% wrong about that.
Anyway, I did like this one. Since it was my favorite episode of the series so far, I gave it an A-.

Agree with you brgjoe, this was my favorite episode so far. I wish they would have told us how they were saving Frank from jail. Like you I can’t see how getting married would do that. Blue was better this week but didn’t have as much screen time. The characters were much more competent this week but Mackey is still clenching, I guess that’s her normal way? But does anyone find Evie more annoying than Blue? After all, Blue is supposed to be a bit antisocial. I too gave it an A.

Yes, generally I have felt Evie was annoying me pretty much from the 1st episode on. Blue was OK at first. But then a couple of times I thought the social awkwardness/quirks got a little too over the top for me. Especially when she was around Mackey. But hopefully now that she is a full-fledged member of the team they can dial that down a bit. At least both weren't all that annoying in this episode.
Still don't get the teeth clenching stuff either. Keep hoping that the show goes on that will start to be minimized as well. We'll see.

it’s weird, but I actually forgot to record the episode…
don’t know whether I was preoccupied with a 🏀 game or because this show just isn’t “must see t.v.”, so it didn’t cross my mind to record it…
watching the actress clenching her teeth was annoying at first, but after watching her closely I think that’s actually the set of her jaw, and has nothing to do with a “tough guy/gal” personae…
