thank you, Hari!! I wanted to write something about that worker taking a measly $75k for her "dirty work", but I couldn't think how to put it... so it just fell under one of the "dumb scenes" category in my post... you said it perfectly! funny how the NCIS writers keep using that $75k figure, isn't it? those bad guys sure work cheap, don't they? 😄
question: can you explain to me why Team Gibbs keep their guns locked in their desks until they leave the building [to go to a crime scene]? is that a real NCIS/Federal Employee regulation, I wonder?
I don't recall ever seeing any of them coming in off the elevator in the morning and taking the time to lock their gun in their desk... seems that they would have their weapon on them at all times...
or...
is that just an NCIS show thing?
nas
They strap on their guns when Gibbs says, "Gear up" so it makes sense that they would keep them in a desk drawer. As to the $75k thing, people go to jail for stealing a lot less. Not that it's smart but it happens.

Hiya, USMCBrat, The episode you're thinking of with Jeanne & Tony in her hospital's morgue was titled Angel of Death..
I'd have to go back and look but I don't think Abby slept in a drawer before but on one of the autopsy tables at the end of Bete Noire.
Abby couldn't be fired for what Ellie and Jimmy did to her lab but NCIS might want to make changes that she doesn't approve of OR to now farm out their lab work to a civilian facility - where they'd have to wait months for test results. No clue really where they're going with her exit.
Thanks Navy Newbie!

perhaps I didn't make myself clear... what I was trying to ask was:
why would Team Gibbs keep their guns locked in their desk drawers? I would think they would wear their guns at all times until (or when) they were home...
I don't recall ever seeing them go thru the "ritual" of coming into work and locking their weapon in their desk...
I'm trying to envision the whole process, but it only confuses me, i.e., when do they put on and take off their gun?
am I makin any sense, or am I just a confused old lady? [giveup]

Nas, I can't think of a specific episode title but I know that when they come into the office, they remove their weapons and put them into their drawers. It was more of a thing in the earlier episodes when they were shown as arriving at their desks for the day more frequently. If I can think of an example, I'll let you know. But when they get the 'grab yer gear' go sign from Gibbs they always have to stop to get their weapons from their desk, so they must lock them up first thing.
My thoughts on the matter as a professional desk jockey... I can't imagine that it would be comfortable (or safe) to keep your gun on your hip while sitting at a desk chair for most of the day. You'd be constantly banging it against the arm rests on the chairs. Heck, I catch myself on the armrests and I don't have anything hanging off my hip.

thanx, llyan...
personally, if I was in that position, I would prefer to wear my gun at all times rather than have it locked in my desk... they're not always sitting at their desk; they have to get up to go to the bathroom or to the lab or some other area in the building...
wearing a gun in a shoulder holster isn't like having it hanging off your hip (like in cowboy movies)... the guns they [appear to] carry are not that big and bulky, a la the monster gun Dirty Harry used... 😄
besides, that scene in the episode where Torres and Gibbs are caught without their guns is a perfect example of why locking it in their desk isn't a good idea...

nas I would also wear my gun at all times if I was in that position, it seems very foolish to not have it on you at all times. It is better to have it and not need to use it than be caught in a situation empty handed.

No way of knowing this but it could be a federal agency requirement to lock your weapon up when you're in the office.
But that's probably not true since Kate wore her backup weapon in her ankle holster.
So, I'll just put it down to Team Lead "rule".

I don't watch LA that often but Pride makes a big deal of unlocking the file cabinet and taking out his gun in New Orleans.
I know that I've always see them going to their desks to get their weapons so it didn't bother me. However I wish MY freaking desk drawer lock was as strong as the one on Gibbs desk. Bishop's lock just requires a bang on the top to open, very similar to mine....
I enjoyed this episode.
I do wish that we had some idea of how Abby is leaving. Pauley has even become fairly quiet on twitter of late.
and as a totally not show related comment.... Nas... I do so hope your basketball team does get the #1 draw..... and even more important I hope they don't blow it and pick someone flashy but basically worthless.....

I would definitely want to wear my gun at all times, if for no other reason than to keep DiNozzo SR. from wandering into the bullpen (unescorted), breaking into one of the desks and taking the weapon...
after all, they've got him down in the ME's area wearing a lab coat and impersonating Dr. Mallard... next thing you know they'll have the old fart thinking he's a real NCIS Agent!

You made me laugh nas, I’d use it on DiNozzo Sr as well.

He already believed that, when he was recruited by Gibbs to get an agent (Ziva) on the gala in Season 7 "Broken Arrow".

So, I'll just put it down to Team Lead "rule". During both the attack on the Navy Yard and Fort Hood, military personnel were unarmed, thus the reason so many lost their lives, they were unable to fight back. Also, on 9/11 the fighter pilots who were sent out to find the hijacked airlines left without being armed, because at that time, fighter jets were not armed during peace time. In an interview I read a couple of years ago, one of the pilots stated that they didn't have time to arm him since the threat was immediate, so he knew if he found the plane in time, he had only one way of bringing it down. That policy has since been changed. I don't know about the policy of soldiers carrying weapons on base.

It was during the Clinton Administration that all Military bases and stations were declared gun free zones. I haven't heard of that being changed. IMO in the hazardous times we live in, the threat of terrorists both foreign and home grown, the military should be armed at all times.

oh, right you are, jessielee! I forgot about that episode...
that was just another dumb excuse to bring RJW to NCIS in a guest-starring gig...
if I recall correctly he behaved like a lecherous old creep with Ziva; his behavior, as always, was disgusting!

You'd be constantly banging it against the arm rests on the chairs. Heck, I catch myself on the armrests and I don't have anything hanging off my hip.In one of the early episodes (Tony and the he/she) Kate questioned why the dead agent had left his weapon in the desk as regs stated it was to be worn on leaving the building. As someone who carried a portable phone at work for years, I have to agree with Illyan. That blasted thing, which massed as much as my D ad's holdout weapon, was in the way all the time. I carried it in a clip-on carrier on the back of my waistband, as I have too much hip curve for anything to be comfortable on the side. It still would get hung up on office style chair or flip out of a pocket and slide across the floor. Colleagues occasionally "accidentally" dropped it in the toilet etc. When I was up and moving I wore it but tossed it on the desk when it was paperwork time.
