David's rare usage this season gives me pause as to his reaction. Of course, David's talent and training gives him the ability to do so much with so little.
This was seen in the opening when Ducky's enters Autopsy with Torres, Bishop and Palmer standing around the bagged body of Reeves. His calm demeanor coming from his experience with this specific experience exuded from my TV. He was then only seen twice in the episode. The most poignant one was the last scene, when he spoke up in support of Abby's decision to leave.
One would have thought that the years together as colleagues would have lent to there being more emotion on his part. The final hug was convincingly authentic to me, but his quickness to send her away, even for the noble reason she had, seemed a bit, dismissive. (perhaps I'm making too much of this, but these are my observations)
David was highly critical of Cote when she left, of course much of that could have been centered around the suddenness of her exit, but we haven't really heard anything from him concerning PP departure.
Overall, I find it difficult, if almost impossible, to be critical of anything David has done over the past 15 years. That said, his choice to be less involved this season, and now next, does make his performances stand out all the more, and this performance was no different. I'm sure saying good-bye to another of the core-four had to be difficult for him, but he handled it with a great deal of professionalism and aplomb. Hats off to you Mr. McCallum, you were excellent.
