Pam Dawber (finally!) joins husband Mark Harmon on NCIS for four episodes
The 'Mork & Mindy' star will recur opposite her husband of 30-plus years on the CBS procedural. By Lynette Rice March 17, 2021 at 10:00 AM EDT The family on NCIS is about to get real.
EW has learned exclusively that Pam Dawber, the real-life wife of star Mark Harmon, will FINALLY appear on the 18-year-old CBS procedural.
Beginning April 6, she'll play Marcie Warren, described by the show as "a seasoned investigative journalist who uses her savvy wit and down-to-earth people skills to aid in her tireless pursuit of truth."
Believe it or not, this is the first time Dawber has starred opposite her husband (who plays Leroy Gibbs) on the show that he's helped to make a big hit on CBS. She'll recur for four episodes.
Dawber, 69, is best known for her work opposite Robin Williams in the comedy Mork & Mindy. She also starred in My Sister Sam with Rebecca Schaeffer. Her most recent appearance on broadcast TV was in CBS' The Odd Couple in 2016.
Dawber and Harmon married in 1987 and have two children.
CBS has yet to announce whether it will pick up NCIS for a 19th season since Harmon's deal is up this year. On Tuesday's installment of the drama, Harmon's character turns in his badge and gun, which could pave the way for the actor returning for only a handful of episodes next season. Stay tuned!
NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.ew.com/tv/ncis-casts-pam-dawber-husband-mark-harmon/?utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly_entertainmentweekly&utm_content=manual&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_term=60520c057ea0290001af57a9

This almost makes me think that the show and/or MH will be going away. Kinda like - bring in the family for a fond farewell...

MH? It's looking like it, especially considering last night's ep. The show? Probably not. You don't just cancel a show that's run this amount of time like that. There would already have been a "This is the final season of NCIS!" marketing campaign like with Big Bang Theory. Next season being the last is possible, based on how they deal with the apparent negotiations for MH to appear in some episodes, but it's possible for the show to continue without him.

ha-ha! 😃 great minds think alike, NewBe...
I thought about that back when it was first announced that NCIS: Nola was ending its run... so, unless Bakula has something else cookin’, he’d be a natural for the position vacated by Harmon...

I dunno, would Pride ever want to leave New Orleans for DC? Personally I think that with the new REACT agent coming on as recurring and possible regular, they'd be okay with McGee being team lead. Bishop would probably become SFA since while Torres has been with NCIS longer, he was undercover until fairly recently and wouldn't really qualify for the SFA slot. The new agent while recurring this season wouldn't be directly in the bullpen, but would probably take Bishop's current desk as a full-time next season instead of bringing in a new probie.

God no! Never warmed up to that spin off, never warmed up to Bakula
I don't see the show surviving long without Mark Harmon... it has had a great run. Just end it

NOLA became my go-to NCIS show so I’d come back. I liked Pride’s style of leadership over Gibbs” closed off version which only got worse (after TPTB kept telling us how much a variety of tragic/traumatic events had changed him).

I watched it a few times its first season and it did not click. I though it might just be because they were getting their feet on the ground and needed to get the kinks out, but when I tried again it did still did not click for me.
Scott Bakula was not the only reason I did not like the show - I just felt no bond at all. But his character did nothing to draw me in, and I have no desire to see him on NCIS. Would I stop watching? My hope is to see the show through to the end, even though it is no where near as captivating for me as it was in the early seasons. But without Mark and with Scott - yeah I might tune out.
I just think at this point in the series the replacement would not go well. Like many shows that have had a long run, the ideas are not as crisp or sharp anymore and the plots become predictable. I don't see how it survives a lead change.
While I also like the current team I don't see them carrying the show long term either. So if the goal is to have Mark in a limited number of episodes (and of course this entire issue is us speculating) I would say do it over the course of next season while writing a conclusion to the series... Of course if the show is still drawing well that might not be the business decision.
I will say "Arizona" last year was one of the exceptions, I enjoyed that episode and it is one of my favorites of the series.

In 15 seasons, ER turned over almost the entire prime cast like three times. Sure, ratings were lower in later seasons but it was still in "successful" levels. Like I said above, I think having Gibbs retire at the end of this season and have appearances in the next season would make for a good transition, and then the current cast with the new addition in place of another "probie" could carry it, at least for another season.

I liked NOLA at the beginning. I liked the chemistry between Pride, LaSalle & Brody. Once LaSalle left it didn't feel like a good fit anymore. I like Scott Bakula. Maybe have him lead the team waiting for Gibbs to get back into the bullpen just to see how the audience reacts. Also gives MH a break that he may need after all this time.

I'd be against bringing in a new team lead. I realize that Sean Murray isn't a big enough name to be top star on the show, but Agent McGee is definitely capable as team lead. They've even shown it with Gibbs having no problem handing him the reins while he runs off with Fornell and things like that. If they need to bring in a big name, perhaps the DC office could use an assistant director. I know that would probably cause Rocky Carroll to have less screen time, but no solution is perfect. My bottom line is that if Barrett was good enough to lead a team 10 years ago then McGee doesn't need someone new to be brought into Gibbs' position.

I think the "NCIS" name by itself is enough to carry it, regardless of who the first name on the credits is. (Again, at least for one more season. If ratings fell to where it wasn't sustainable during next season, they could make the call early enough to work on a proper "final season" campaign then, or finish out 19 and have a short final S20)
