meet Elle Graper, a.k.a. Victoria Palmer:

what a cute little girl! I’d guess she’s more like 10 (or so) irl, and not 7 y/o like Victoria (born in February 2015) is supposed to be… to quote the great Charles Barkley: I could be wrong, but I doubt it. 😉 (I wonder if they’re even going to bring up her age in the episode…. 🤔 - probably not)
looks like Michelle Pierce has decided to return to acting again; I presume as the “ghost” of Breena…

Michelle's IMDb page hasn't been updated to show credit for this episode, but they usually don't update till after the episode airs. I'm wondering if she is really back or are they using archive footage, which they then have to give her credit, (and Pay) for using her image. It will be interesting to see. Though I won't get to see it till Tuesday due to work.

I never thought of archive footage, pd, but you could be right…. the air date is February 28th - not this coming Monday…

nas Not unusual for child actors to be older than their characters. Heck, adult actors are rarely exactly the same age as their characters. A deadly biotoxin could certainly cause Jimmy to hallucinate, though you probably consider that the same as a ghost. The guest I haven't seen mentioned (outside the press release) is the return of Meredith Eaton as Carol Wilson. Since her previous appearances were always as Abby's friend, I'm curious if Abby's absence will be addressed.

nas Of course we knew that they were going to make it. But dang it did pull some heartstrings in the process. And knowing what Brian went through (if you haven't read it yet, seriously go read the Variety Article I posted in the Posts from Around the Web board), it puts some new context to this episode. I'll have to watch this again before I can fully react to it but I have to get to sleep. I returned to my office this week and my sleep schedule is not set up for dealing with a commute!

Good to see Michelle back, Good to see Knight finally taking down a suspect rather than running and chasing them. Young Victoria is adorable, would like to see more of her.
That was the good, the rest was almost unwatchable. Not sure why, but Kasie and Palmer together are bad, and that was most of the show tonight. And the rest of the story was basically filler that was mostly whipped cream in a can. Not very believable even for those of us who can suspend our disbelief. Would have been much better with more Brenna and Victoria.
Option "F" should have been "Strike Three"

I'm not sure if I liked this episode or if it was just that it was refreshing after a month of reruns and garbage. The plot was kind of obvious, and I see we've now picked up our recurring villain for the remainder of the season (and into the next?). Where would we be without a recurring villain? A note on the acting is in order. Brian Dietzen is a very good actor when they let him do something not comic oriented. That being said, his writing lacks a bit (like give Meredith Eaton something to do other than be a scold). Never have liked Kasie as a character and not overly impressed with the actress doing the role. She tends to overact. The little girl (Victoria) was OK, but she gets a pass because of her age. It was, as someone above pointed out, nice to see Knight getting to do more (I think my grandson has fallen in love with her ). And Parker is growing on me. I'm interested to see what they are going to do with the rest of the season. I hope a lot of it has to do with giving McGee a more leading role.

I honestly don’t know how I felt about this episode…
I knew Palmer and Kasie weren’t going to die, but getting to the “life saving antidote just in the nick of time” was - well….. what did I expect? they had to write them on the brink of death so Palmer could make his uber-emotional “helpers speech” to his daughter…
and speaking of Victoria, tho’ they didn’t mention her age, she wasn’t portrayed as a 7 year old child - which is what she should be if they’re sticking to canon… she looked, acted, and behaved like the 11 year old child that the actress actually is… I realize I’m generalizing, but there’s usually a world of difference between a 7 year old child and an 11 year old child; the level of intellect and sophistication is appreciable!
one more thing: it bothered me - a lot! - that they would write a child watching her father die an excruciating death… I realize they were going for the emotional, heart breaking effect, but c’mon! that was horrific!! if that happened to me as a child, I would carry that memory with me for the rest of my life! it was not pretty!
bottom line: in writing this post, I’ve come to the conclusion that I really didn’t like the episode - even if it was supposed to highlight Brian Dietzen’s “dramatic acting chops”…

The poll results are pretty interesting. It's really a mixed bag of responses!
Well for myself, I enjoyed the episode. I feel like the moral of the story very much mirrors the the episode. As Jimmy said, "it isn't how we die, but how we live." We knew that Jimmy and Kasie were going to be fine, but the journey of how we got there was the important part.
Some things I liked in no particular order because they're from memory.
- It was nice to see Breena again, especially since it wasn't in a flashback. After Breena died unceremoniously off screen, this episode really provided a nice bit of closure for Jimmy's character.
- I liked Victoria Palmer. The actress did a nice job and pulled off the 'precocious child' without going overboard. She did seem to be a little older than the character should be. Logistics of child actors aside, I can chalk that up to Victoria having two very smart parents that raised a bright and articulate child combined with a slight loss of her childhood brought on by the fact that her mother died when she was young.
- It's a shame that Meredith Eaton didn't have more to do, but it was still nice to see her again.
- I laughed when Parker called the guy a jagoff. I know they say it in Chicago but that is such a Pittsburgese word, that it amuses me when I hear it on TV.
- The whole scene with Buggy Stacks cracked me up, in some good ways and at least one that had me rolling my eyes. The part with him diving through the window had me rolling my eyes. I know they wanted the stunt but it would have been far more realistic to see him either break the glass with something first or just open the window to escape. But other than that, I liked how completely clueless he was (or as McGee said, "you are so dumb" when they were interrogating him.) Not sure what the Raven is up to, but Buggy was definitely a useful idiot to him.
- The fight scene with Knight and Stacks was kinda the same way. I rolled my eyes with the way she lost her gun. It just looked incredibly awkward. I think they were trying to show that she ran around a blind corner and ran into him, but it didn't play well on camera. The fight scene with her and the broom handle was fun though. I guess Knight has had some martial arts training? Nice to see her kick some butt.
- I really liked Torres and Victoria together. I can definitely see him as Uncle Nick to Palmer's daughter. I liked to see how she opened up to Torres in a way that she didn't open up to her father.
- I haven't seen the movie with Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers but as a Pittsburgher, I'm very fond of our favorite neighbor. I also grew up watching Mr. Rogers, so it kinda hurt just a little when Victoria said that she loved the movie about Mr. Rogers. Makes me feel old. lol
- Jimmy's speech about helpers being overlaid with the scenes of arresting the members of the Unkindness was really good. I liked his speech in general but it fit well with action on screen.
- Sean Murray mentioned that this episode had one of his favorite McGee moments in it. I'm not sure which scene he's referring too. I wonder if it was the one where he took down the guy who had the gun on Pastov?

It tugged some heartstrings for me. I admit some of it was over the top, but I have still not come to grips with the good bye via facetime that happened during the early waves of COVID. I doubt I ever will.
My father died young. leaving my mother a very young widow with four very young kids. As an adult and parent I cannot imagine how scary it was for my mother, knowing if anything happened to the remaining parent what would happen to the child. I felt that with Palmer ...
I do like that they portrayed Nick as being their for Palmer ...
We are seeing the aftermath of kids and loss and COVID ... like that they portrayed Victoria having issues (fighting)
Liked Breena telling Jimmy to let go...
Victoria was clearly portrayed as older than she was and that was disappointing ...
I am a little emotionally raw dealing with loss and some of the COVID issues of the last years so this may have just hit my emotional side...
