I missed a small snip-it of it, but overall, I liked this episode.

The episode was enjoyable, but certainly not without flaws.
Let's see...
There really is no good reason for the bad guys to be searching Vance's house. Vance just announces himself to the bad guys without going and getting his gun?
Vance has a Fort Knox security system and thinks the guys who got in without triggering it are common neighborhood thieves?
Parker is supposed to be on high alert, but Vance's lady was fine when he called to say he was on his way but the room was trashed a few minutes later with at least 3 gunshots being fired and he and Vance didn't hear a single thing from a few rooms away? The German detective being bad was rather obvious.
Palmer's shirt fits Knight perfectly? Vance didn't bring his own gun to Germany?

Yeah, I thought it was another middling episode.
I also didn't understand why they started searching Vance's place to start the episode. Ok, it was a plot device. But other than that, it didn't make sense. Oh, and they are good enough to bypass a state of the art alarm system (which I don't blame Vance having after all he's been through), but somehow missed a shot at pretty much point blank range?
Vance also wanted to keep their relationship secret. For trying to do that, sure seemed like a whole lot of people already knew about it. If the baddies knew about their relationship, then why didn't they also know about, you know, that lady's sister? You'd think they would have found out about her and checked her place out during that 6 year time span. And yeah, it was pretty easy this time to spot the baddie.
I did like the scenes of Parker and Vance together. Especially when they talked about being alone. Also liked seeing them both in the field as well. Though I'm also wondering why Vance didn't bring his own gun. Maybe he felt he didn't need it with Parker around(?)
I also liked McGee as AD. Like Palmer said, I thought he would be excellent at that sort of job. Also kinda thought it was funny he seemed to get along with bureaucrats and politicans better than he got along with his kids school parents. Though if I were advising McGee, I wouldn't necessarily jump at the job. I mean, look at all that has happened to the current director and some of those directors in the past. Yikes.
So I thought there was some good and some bad. Didn't quite like it as much as last week's episode. Gave this one a C+. (maybe being a little generous here)

The problem I had with McGee as a fill-in was, since he was only going to be there a few days, there would not be budget meetings and Senator calls scheduled for him... Even in an extreme emergency, the director could have been contacted by his assistant, just as Parker was by the team... We gave it an overall C

Much like season 5 judgment Day the bad guys knew who all the players were for the op that went down so they went after Vance and the others methodically they thought he had the diamonds. That's why they went after him. It was a decent episode that furthered Vance's life after Jackie's death, definitely furthered the Palmer and Knight relationship and gave a former probie a taste of the big chair.

well, you guys pretty much said it all so I won’t spend too much time & energy writing a review…
couple things: ~ ~ I actually did have a few lol moments, but can’t remember exactly what they were now…
~~ I thought the two security/bodyguards assigned for Leon’s trip to Berlin looked pretty “bad-ass”, whereas Parker was just a “pain-in-the-ass”… I’da gone with the first two guys, but then that would have defeated the whole plot/purpose of the Parker & Vance “bonding” thing…
~~ the writers just cannot stop treating romances as if they were juveniles… 😠 sooo, Knight is wearing Palmer’s t-shirt… sooo, they’re sleeping together… BFD - they’re adults! and, I agree Hari - - Palmer’s L/XL t-shirt would not have been so form fitting on Knight…
~~ once again the 6 heavily armed bad guys, shooting up everything in sight with their AR type weapons, get taken down by 2 guys with handguns…. riiiiiight! 🤣
well, that was more than a couple of things, but once I start writing I just can’t stop!
eta: btw, brgjoe, I enjoy reading your posts… it says you’re a probie, but you write as if you’ve been around a while… have you been lurking and just now decided to start posting - or did you have a different handle before you were brgjoe?

The problem I had with McGee as a fill-in was, since he was only going to be there a few days, there would not be budget meetings and Senator calls scheduled for him... Even in an extreme emergency, the director could have been contacted by his assistant, just as Parker was by the team... We gave it an overall C I wondered about that too. But on thinking about it, this trip wasn't spontaneous. It was an annual conference that Vance always attended. Vance would have discussed placing McGee in the role of acting director well in advance. Not to mention that McGee would have to agree to take the role. It's likely that the meetings were either setup or kept in order to get McGee that experience of dealing with the bureaucrats. Also Vance wouldn't have kept those meetings on his calendar if he thought McGee was going to fail. It wouldn't benefit NCIS or McGee's career (which you would have to hope that as a good boss, he'd like to see his employee succeed.)
I could see why McGee would try to avoid the lunch, given that he just had a whole episode where he didn't like small talk. But not liking it and not being good at it are two different things. And apparently he is good at it. Plus, in this case, it helped that he was supposed to talk to the senator (I think it was a senator) about his job. Whereas with the Dad Bros, he was trying to find something to talk about other than his job.

"Palmer's shirt fits Knight perfectly?"
Brian Dietzen is six feet tall and has a runner's body, not a lifter's body. Katrina Law is five foot seven and has a blackbelt in Taekwondo, so her upper body would be fit, and she's not a double D. Perhaps it should have been longer and sag a bit, but not that much really. This wasn't much of a problem with me.

I suppose it helped that those sisters didn't even have a bit of resemblance to each other. Perhaps they were both from each of their parents' previous marriages with zero blood relation. And I don't remember the letters of the German agency, but if Parker wanted them to know, he could have asked them himself for the safehouse. They have an investigator with a case involving NCIS and the acting head of NCIS requests a safehouse? Of course they are going to tell their investigator. McGee should have asked the CIA first, then gone through any other agency possible before going to the agency that has his people as persons of interest.

Thank you for the kinds words.
I've been around awhile. Followed NCIS since about season 3, or so. Then participated on the TWOP (Television Without Pity) forums before their demise. Then I basically lurked around various forums, including this one. And I did participate in a discussion or two in this forum as a Guest. People here seem to be very nice and tolerant and welcoming of newbies such as me, I decided to make it my NCIS forum home. So I finally registered not too long ago. Enjoy reading your posts as well! And thanks for the nice words once again.
One thing about this episode I forgot to mention -- when they had the scuzzy hotel manager from said scuzzy hotel, they brought up he was on a "Dateline" episode. That's an NBC news show, isn't it? You'd think they would have brought up a CBS one like "60 Minutes" or something such as that. I still was amused at some of the conversations in that scene though. And I think a lot of us have stayed at a hotel/motel that wasn't exactly the cleanest places on the planet.

you’re welcome, brgjoe… btw, Maxine likes your posts, too… she especially likes that you break up your posts into paragraphs (makes for easier reading), and says your punctuation is very good also…. 😊 she sounds like an old English teacher, doesn’t she? 😂
re the “scuzzy hotel manager”: 🤔 I’m drawing a complete blank on that scene! I’ll have to go rewatch the episode and try to find it…

Thank Maxine for me too.
Like I said, I've been around awhile. I started emailing in the early 1980's. And from there posted on USENET a lot in the '90s. So I'm kinda used to posting stuff online and generally trying to practice good netiquette. And if I find any old English teachers of mine, I'll pass along what you all said about my punctuation. Heh.
You made a good point about the firefight at the safe house too. All those dudes with automatic weapons should have pretty much laid waste to everyone there. Then again, maybe they have the aim of Star Wars stormtroopers. I did like the move that Parker made by diving down under the car and shooting the bad guy from there. I certainly wouldn't have thought of doing that.
Also now I wonder how Vance and that lady's relationship will go from here. He looked like he basically understood why she did it, but still not completely forgiving her for it either. Just get the feeling that one is over with. If so, too bad. I think he should have someone else in his life. Ok, other than someone like Parker to go to the movies with.
