I absolutely loved this episode.
The talk between Jimmy and Knight at the end was heartbreakingly beautiful.

I thought it was good, not great. Though it did have it's nice moments. I liked McGee's "Ghostbuster" line. And the scenes when Parker meets his long lost love after all those years. I did also like some of the twists and turns. Did not see the victim being a spy. Nor the parents apparently being Russian handlers/sleeper agents. And I also liked the Jessica/Jimmy scene in autopsy. Pretty well done. And like the crossover event, at least this episode kept my interest throughout.
I did have some problems with it however. Yes, it was kinda obvious Parker's identity had been stolen. But at the same time, his name was used to make the reservation and his authority used to hack into a secure database of Navy personnel. You'd think at the very least the higher up's would say, "Of course we know this wasn't you who did this. But it would look kinda bad if you still headed up this investigation. So just sit this one out for the time being..." And once again, I pretty much guessed who the perp's were. I didn't know they would be spies, but I just figured one or both of the parents was involved. Though I thought it was something like they were committing some sort of criminal acts like dealing drugs or something and the daughter found out. Their initial meeting in that conference room was just screaming to me, "THEY ARE HIDING SOMETHING!"
And this is pretty minor, but...after all those years, Parker never knew that Joy and her family moved away because of him? Seriously? I can see maybe not knowing as a kid. But you'd think later on in life he would have found out the truth at some point. Especially considering he apparently was still trying to find out information about her long after she did move. I did like her character though -- wouldn't mind seeing Joy appear again later on.
So a decent enough episode for me. Me votes to give this one a solid B.

I absolutely loved this episode. The talk between Jimmy and Knight at the end was heartbreakingly beautiful. We liked the ending talk, and trying to get Jimmy some closure from Breena... but the sophomoric way they wrote the scenes that led up to that point, we could have done without.

When they found the fake room in the storage, I immediately jumped to "Russian sleeper agent", but thought it was just the "daughter". Of course, via standard NCIS canon of always showing the culprit early on in an unassuming fashion, I should have suspected the parents immediately, too. didn't figure them until the team decided to send Joy's boy to draw the perps out. That is when I figured it would be them.

Figured the parents did it (didn't know which), but not why. Frankly, by the end they were the only people left in the plot. I like episodes that center on Parker. He's a good character (and something of a tonic for "functionally mute" Gibbs) and the actor does a good job. Wouldn't mind seeing the old flame again and wondered where I'd seen her before. All in all not a bad episode.

I deduced the parents at about 2/3 of the way through just by thinking who we'd only seen once at that point that didn't really stand out. Not that I'm saying there's a repetitious formula to the episodes or anything. I also figured there wasn't much chance she got her extensive martial arts training without them knowing.
As far as the sleeper cell family, it was definitely the Hollywood version rather than realistic. If anyone's interested, I looked up this video I saw a while back with what one of the actual KGB sleepers had to say about Hollywood's versions:

to be perfectly honest I wasn’t even going to write anything else about this episode other than it gave me a headache, but Maxine has been buggin’ me all day long saying, “As a died in the wool Realist it’s your duty to write about it and tell everyone what you think!” so, to get her off my back and out of my head, I’ll point out what I think about this ep, with apologies to those of you who liked/enjoyed it…
here goes:
~~ in the past I’ve liked Parker - even accepted the fact that he’s computer literate and knows “something about everything”… but apparently what he doesn’t know is that the way to talk to someone in the Credit Card Dept. about your stolen credit card number IS NOT to scream and holler at the person on the other end of the phone line! he is not the only person in the world to have his credit card identity stolen, and behaving like a total a-hole is not going to make it go away - in fact, being verbally abusive to the person who picked up your call will likely get your case put at the bottom of their pile… believe me when I say being nasty will get you nowhere… people who work with Credit Card Fraud are overwhelmed with this situation; not a fun job to have… it’s not their fault that there are so many thieves out there stealing credit card numbers… but, I guess the writers thought it was a good idea to make Parker look like a jerk because he had his identity stolen… wrong!!
~~ Palmer’s craving for a crab roll because the contents of the victim’s stomach was a crab roll was disgusting… performing an autopsy on a person is a serious job and should not be treated lightly, let alone make you hungry - even if, as he told Knight, he does this “job” all the time… so, again, the writers have made Palmer look like an idiot! they don’t know whether to make him a serious, bad-ass, sensitive adult OR a complete dufus! it’s like this character has a split personality! I guess my dislike for Palmer will always go back to the fact that he became a “doctor” without ever telling anyone about it… having spent 5 years of my working life at a Medical University, I can tell you for a fact that ain’t never gonna’ happen - not for a minute will I believe it’s possible! again, blame it on the writers - their imagination far outweighs their knowledge!
~~ what are the odds that of all the people in the world, the con who stole Parker’s identity just happens to be the son of the “love of his life”? seriously!? on top of that, that love of his, Joy, just happens to live within spitting distance of where he lives! if he knows so much about everything, then he should have found her a long time ago; apparently he didn’t try that hard…
~~ turns out the victim is really a “bad guy (gal)”, and her parents, who aren’t really her parents, are “Russian bad guys”, too! okaaaay!
~~ so in the end, Parker pulls some strings with the FBI and the “saveable” Travis gets to become a “Catch me if you can” Frank Abagnale, Jr. in training… 🙄
alright, I’m done - hopefully Maxine will leave me alone now…
one last thing: I want some of whatever the writers are smokin’ - maybe, just maybe, it’ll improve my mood…

I thought that this episode did a nice job with the case, which was interesting and twisty. But also had some pretty good character development. I like how Knight teased out what was bugging Jimmy and how she offered him her support once she put to words what was wrong. I think they handled a very difficult subject (grief and loss of a spouse) nicely.
As for Parker's storyline, I liked Joy although I think the punch to the gut was a bit of an overreaction. He might have been a troublemaker, but he wasn't at fault for her parents moving her away from him. I did like how they handled her son and getting him into the FBI diversion program. Like Parker, he's savable and still has time to get on the right track. I wouldn't mind seeing her again. I certainly liked Joy better than Vivian.

wrong!!
You're absolutely right. Yelling at customer service folks isn't right and won't help your cause. But Parker has frequently been shown to have a temper. It's a very consistent character flaw.
~~ Palmer’s craving for a crab roll because the contents of the victim’s stomach was a crab roll was disgusting…
performing an autopsy on a person is a serious job and should not be treated lightly, let alone make you hungry - even if, as he told Knight, he does this “job” all the time… I'm going to have to disagree with you on Palmer. I don't think that his hungering for a crab roll is indicative that he was treating his job lightly. I think he was treating it like... his job. Is it weird that Jimmy wanted a crab roll after discovering it was the victim's last meal? Absolutely. And it was treated appropriately as strange by Knight. But if doing his job as a medical examiner put him off his lunch every time, the poor guy would have starved to death years ago.
so, again, the writers have made Palmer look like an idiot!
they don’t know whether to make him a serious, bad-ass, sensitive adult OR a complete dufus!
it’s like this character has a split personality!

I guess I have less of a problem with this because it seems more realistic. People aren't just one thing. Some people are just goof balls even if they are grown adults. Those same goof balls can be serious, bad-ass, sensitive adults depending on the circumstances.

The kid targeted Parker because of the information he had from things his mom had said and the letters Parker wrote to her. On the flipside, Parker already knew where she lived because he'd been cyberstalking her without ever making contact. Since Joy said Vivian had visited her, she probably knew Parker was aware of her location and that he was FBI.Seems odd that the agents didn't seem to know she was adopted as that should definitely have been in her file. I wouldn't have guessed Russian since the things she and the parents had was pretty much a list of things the real Russian in the video I posted said they didn't have.Watch some Buck videos to improve your mood.
