NCIS: Sydney Casts Legends of Tomorrow Vet, 5 Others — See First Photo From Australian Edition of Hit Franchise BY MATT WEBB MITOVICH
JUNE 12, 2023 1:19 PM
It’s a g’day to be a fan of NCIS down in Australia.
Paramount Australia on Monday revealed the cast of NCIS: Sydney, which is currently filming in the titular city.
The series will stream/air exclusively in Australia on Paramount+ and Network 10, as the first-ever international edition of the hit global franchise. (At this time, there are no plans for NCIS: Sydney to be available Stateside. Yet.)
The premise: As international tensions rise in the Indo-Pacific, a brilliant and eclectic team of U.S. NCIS Agents and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) are grafted into a multi-national task force, to keep naval crimes in check in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet.
The NCIS: Sydney team will be led by NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey, played by DC’s Legends of Tomorrow alum Olivia Swann, and her 2IC AFP counterpart, Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey, played by Todd Lasance (Spartacus: War of the Damned).
They are joined by Sean Sagar (Fate: The Winx Saga) as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson, Tuuli Narkle (Bad Behaviour) as AFP Liaison Officer Constable Evie Cooper, Mavournee Hazel (Neighbours) as AFP Forensic Scientist Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson, and William McInnes (Blue Heelers) as AFP Forensic Pathologist Dr. Roy Penrose.
“We are thrilled to be expanding the NCIS franchise, one of our most powerful and iconic television IPs, across borders and into Australia,” Lindsey Martin, Head of International Co-Productions and Development at CBS Studios, said in a statement. “It is a joy to work with this talented NCIS: Sydney creative team, actors, and crew for our inaugural international original, and to be able to tell our exciting NCIS stories with a uniquely Australian sensibility.”

OK, I admit to being out of touch, but I don't recognize any of the people in the pix. Anyone know who is who?

as long as they don’t air this iteration of NCIS in the U.S. I guess it really doesn’t matter much to us who they cast, Hari… tho’ I have no idea who the actors are that have been cast for this version, I suppose they are well known to Aussies - or not! eta: just out of curiosity I did an IMDb check on a couple of the cast, and there is very little info shown on them; so either they don’t have much of a resume to offer - OR they are simply not interested in posting anything on the website…
the first thought that came to my mind about NCIS: Australia is: gotta’ keep that ol’ cash cow alive and payin’! (I wonder, is Mark Harmon going to benefit ($$$) from this show?)
🤔 and is there actually an NCIS in Australia?

Interesting. I've heard rumors for awhile that this would happen. Guess it's official now.
I also don't recognize any of the actors. But I'm not a huge celebrity watcher, and I'm entering my 6th decade of life on this planet of ours, so it's not surprising to me that I'm not exactly up on everything in popular culture these days.
Since streaming services are always seemingly looking for new content, I bet this will be available here in the US on their streaming platform at some point. Probably hedging their bets a bit to see how popular this becomes in Aussie-land. I hope it does well. Wonder how they'll introduce it. Will there be any OG NCIS actors making cameos in the pilot? Maybe Gibbs will wind up fishing off one of his boats there in Australia. Heh.
And as far as I know, there is no NCIS office Down Under. Don't even think there is one in LA. Hmm. Though there are naval bases in San Diego.

Straight from the real NCIS website:
As as I'm aware, it isn't planned to air on US television. It may be aired on Paramount+ eventually but I don't think that's a certainty just yet. Of course, if the writers strike carries on, that could change everything if the networks are looking for new content.

Well, I'll be darned. Had no idea they actually do have presence in Australia. Thanks for that -- as they say, you learn something new every day.
And yeah, I think the writer's strike might also influence their decision to allow it to be streamed in the US. Probably depending on how long it goes. We shall see.

I knew for a while that was going to happen, As for the unknown cast they may be its been mentioned locally know or regionally know. To be honest there are a lot of shows/actors that I see listed in streaming or in ads that I never heard of or seen.
Since I don't have or pay for the different streaming sites I probably won't see it.

Of course, Perth is on the west coast of Australia, while Sydney is on the east, with a LOT of kilometers in between. Don't know if those of us who have Paramount+ will be able to see it. Will the Sydney team have transporter tech as well, so they can make a 4-6 hour trip in 15 minutes? :-)

“NCIS: SYDNEY” TO PREMIERE NOV. 13 ON CBS
The First-Ever International Edition of the Globally Popular Franchise to Air Mondays at 10:00 PM, Immediately Following the Original “NCIS”
First Look Photos Here
CBS will take American viewers down under this fall with the CBS Original Series NCIS: SYDNEY, the first-ever international edition of the top-rated television franchise. Filmed against the spectacular backdrop of one of the world’s most breathtaking harbor cities, the eight-episode season of NCIS: SYDNEY will air Mondays, beginning Monday, Nov. 13 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*.
With rising international tensions in the Indo-Pacific, a brilliant and eclectic team of U.S. NCIS agents and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) are grafted into a multinational taskforce to keep naval crimes in check in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet. NCIS: SYDNEY marks the fifth series in the popular global NCIS franchise, which includes NCIS and NCIS: HAWAI’I, both picked up for their 21st and third seasons, respectively, on the Network, as well as NCIS: LOS ANGELES, which just completed its 14-year run, and NCIS: NEW ORLEANS. NCIS: SYDNEY was originally developed for Network 10 and Paramount+ in Australia. The series will premiere on Paramount+ Australia on Friday, Nov. 10, with additional Paramount+ international markets to follow at a later date.
“NCIS is one of the most popular series in the world and we’re thrilled to expand this franchise with a uniquely Australian twist,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “With the addition of NCIS: SYDNEY, our studio and Network footprint continues to grow in this fascinating world that has been a proven winner with viewers on both linear and streaming platforms. Featuring the stunning backdrop of Australia, the new series will incorporate the high-stakes intrigue, humor and camaraderie that have kept fans captivated by the NCIS teams for over two decades.”
The series stars Olivia Swann (“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “The River Wild”) as NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey and Todd Lasance (“Without Remorse,” “Spartacus: War of the Damned”) as her 2IC AFP counterpart, Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey. They are joined by Sean Sagar (“The Covenant,” “Mea Culpa”) as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson; Tuuli Narkle (“Mystery Road: Origin,” “Bad Behaviour”) as AFP liaison officer Constable Evie Cooper; Mavournee Hazel (“Shantaram,” “Halifax: Retribution”) as AFP forensic scientist Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson and William McInnes (“The Newsreader,” “Total Control”) as AFP forensic pathologist Dr Roy Penrose.
NCIS: SYDNEY is produced for CBS Studios and Paramount Australia by Endemol Shine Australia and distributed outside Australia by Paramount Global Content Distribution. The series is created by Morgan O’Neill (“Les Norton”), who also serves as executive producer alongside Endemol Shine Australia’s Sara Richardson (“RFDS”) and Sue Seeary (“Ten Pound Poms”).
*Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers will have access to stream live via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service, as well as on demand. Paramount+ Essential subscribers will not have the option to stream live, but will have access to on-demand the day after the episode airs.

I figured they would show it here in the US if the writer's strike was still ongoing. And yep, here we are -- they are going to stream it here *and* show it on good ol' classic CBS.
It'll be interesting to see how it is received over here in both the US and Australia. At least we'll have some flavor of NCIS to watch later on this year.

not that I have anything against Australia - some of my favorite animals live there - but I have to wonder why they chose that location for this latest iteration of NCIS… 🤔
in the past there’s been mention of the Naval instillation in Rota, Spain - so why not there instead? production costs? availability of actors? what?
the following statement was recently released:
so, don’t hold your breath for any new eps from the original or Hawaii in the near future…

Recently, the first American television series to be set and filmed there was established, called "Almost Paradise". Apparently the people there are very accommodating and the scenery is awesome, though as an island it might look too similar to Hawaii.
