OMG! the possibilities for this kind of memorial/tribute to DMac! 4 or 5 vignettes introduced by Gibbs, Palmer, McGee - reminiscing about Ducky moments like: ~~ with his mum Victoria the late, great Nina Foch (and her Corgis!) - in Meat Puzzle… ~~ his very emotional breakdown - in Broken Bird… ~~ the many times he spoke tenderly to a victim on the autopsy table… and the list goes on and on and on…
no need to bring back any of the long gone past characters… no need to write an entirely new episode to incorporate his death… just a few sweet memories of David McCallum as Doctor Donald “Ducky” Mallard…
if the writers aren’t up to it, I bet there’s a few members in this forum that could do the job! 😊

Hear, Hear! And I would add give the guy who played Young Ducky a chance to have a say.

While I know many of you want to mourn the loss of the Character: Dr. Donald Mallard, I mourn the loss of a brilliant actor. I remember the breadth of his work, including The Great Escape, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Sapphire & Steel, Ben 10: Alien Force, The Invisible Man, The Greatest Story Ever Told, A Night to Remember, and many more. He deserves a tribute to the man, not the character.
NCIS will have to handle his death, but it needs to be short, sweet, and classy (I agree so much Nas, he deserves a classy sendoff).
One of the most touching tributes to David I read was from Joan Collins (also 90 years old), who said that he was her first boyfriend when they were attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Let her host (if capable) the special, with people from NCIS, as well as others he has worked with, paying tribute to David McCallum.
A lot will depend upon his family. He was a very private man. He might not have wanted a big sendoff.

I hear where you’re coming from, dude, but this board is about the show/series NCIS, and my comments, as I believe others who are posting here, are about paying tribute to the man who portrayed “Ducky”…
Hollywood may pay tribute to David McCollum also - or not… the industry has lost many, many great and talented celebrities in the past and they don’t pay tribute to all of them with all-star productions…
one of the best tributes I’ve seen recently was to the wonderful Julie Andrews - - and the best part about it is that she is still ALIVE at 87 years of age, and was able to see how much people love and admire her body of work and as a person… now that’s my idea of a tribute! 😊
back to the subject at hand, I stand by my suggestion for a tribute to D Mac on NCIS…

Will Pauly be able to put her big girl pants on and appear on set with Mark?
If not she can stay home in my opinion. Unless helping care for Homeless mothers in England caused her to grow up I don't need tween Abby to ever return.

In terms of Pauley, I have a hard time believing she will ever come back to the show. It all depends on what they do to honour Ducky/David. If they opt for a special like people have mentioned here, where they highlight Ducky’s best moments, and cast members talk about him, she might be okay with that option. She wouldn’t even have to be on set for anything, she could just make a video. If they have an episode, I doubt she would be okay being on set with MH. I personally don’t think past cast members would need to be part of the actual episode though, just seen and not heard at a funeral. Even then, I don’t really think anyone other than Gibbs is necessary.
I don’t follow any celebs on social media, but has Pauley even mentioned David’s passing?

I just follow her on Twitter (I refuse to call it "X"). She stopped posting there around March or so because she lost her blue check mark and refuses to pay to get it back. She has an Instagram account, but I don't have an IG account. So I don't know if she said anything his passing or not.
But I think it's highly unlikely that Pauley Perrette would come back as long as MH is still involved with the show. Just don't see it happening for better or worse.

The thing with the Barney Miller style tribute is writers shouldn't be needed (and I don't think they were used). Let the cast tell their own memories of DMcC in their own words and finish with their favorite Ducky scene. Then pull in an editor and stitch in the appropriate clips and let them figure out getting the right run time. Shouldn't be too tough as long as the editors aren't striking with the writers.

The writers strike is over. It is the actors that are still on strike.

The writers strike is over. It is the actors that are still on strike. Yep. Rumors were that they were only going to start negotiating with the actors this week. It's hopeful that the negotiations will go faster because a lot of what the actors wanted mirror what the writers already got in their contract. But until the strike is over, nothing is getting filmed unless its B roll without actors in it.
