"Honor Thy Father" - Season 11, Episode 24.
Tough one. This sits at #7 on my list.
Reviewing season 11, seeing how it started, the vast number of changes that had to be made due to the late departure of Cote, the number of scripts that had to be re-written, trashed, story lines that had to be abandoned, it's a miracle that there are so many good episodes here.
But the last one stands out.
With the death of Ralph Waite in February of 2014, the decision to do a proper good-bye to Gibbs father was the right call.
Working in a terrorist plot to push the story might have been a bit over the top had it been done differently, but to make it a plot targeting Gibbs made it work, in my opinion. Bringing back Alejandro gives the episode a sense of symmetry and almost completeness.
I know that some thought, that maybe, for just this one episode, Cote would return to honor Gibbs father. I'll have to admit that for a moment I thought that might actually happen also. And personally, for me, it would have been appropriate for her to have done so. I also acknowledge that a lot of fans would have had a fit. (that would also have thrown off the ending for DiNozzo, since she would have surely given birth to her baby by then.)
Alas, she did not, but Billy D. Williams did reprise his role as Leroy Jethro, which was really nice.
Not much else to say about this episode. It really speaks for itself.
And at some point, who doesn't shed a tear?
