This is the introduction of Young Ducky and Young Angus. I love the way those two characters/actors play off of each other. Also we get to see Alice Krige "The Borg Queen" as Ducky's true love. Great actress and wonderful work here. The fact that we will get to see the two Adams again in the future is great and something to look forward to.

So It Goes - XII:III W. Steven D Binder D. Leslie Libman OAD: 10.7.14
Hands down the best Ducky (Donnie)-centric episode since The Meat Puzzle and might even top it by a few notches. Is it just me or is David looking younger this season than he has in the last several? His light. His energy. His love of life shines through.
OK, so Adam didn't look like David did back in the 1960s but I wasn't fussed like that. In part because it's impossible and also because even Sean Harmon doesn't look like his father when he comes in to be Younger Gibbs. Where Adam was concerned, he captured the essence of David/Ducky (Illys) and for me that was the most important thing. When it came down to it I *believed* him as "Doctor "Donnie" Mallard.
PHOOFS: Cold Open/Teaser: Ducky ACT I: Ducky & Ellie. ACT II: Abby: ACT III: Ducky ACT IV: Ducky
MOVIES/TV: Doctor Who - direct mention Star Trek - "I'm not a veterinarian The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - turtleneck sweaters for younger Ducky. The Three Musketeers - allusion with the toast.
McNickname: McBlue (Code McBlue)
COLD OPEN:
* Man in red Mustang driving along a county road talking on the bluetooth built into the car. Tells the person on the other end that if anyone is following him they'll just think he's sightseeing. Mentions Foamhenge - can't believe someone built it. Thinks he's safe.
* Well, maybe not. Guy nearby with what looks to be a rocket launcher. He picks it up, takes aim and fires. KABOOM.
* FYI: Rocket launcher explosion is part of the opening credits - near the end.
TEASER:
* Tony & Ellie (with Abby nearby) are doing a background on Cutie Cop - aka: Burton Moore. Gotta smile - Abby could date Burt the Human. He appears to be a bit younger than Abby (unless they're de-aging her) Has geology degree. Was in the Peace Corps for about 10 years. Got arrested - Abby looks upset for a few seconds until she's told why. He was at a protest against a zoo for mistreating animals. Tony & Ellie found his salary, bands he likes and political positions.
* DANGER! WARNING WILL ROBINSON! McGee is coming. Abby give a "Code McBlue" and the info on the plasma comes down. He's not fooled and grabs clicker to bring it back up. Har! Even his shoe size is known. Tim: That's a myth. Ellie: No it's not. Tony points to himself: Size 12.
* I really hope this puts the jealous Tim/Abby stuff to rest once and for all. He thinks she's jealous and he points out he's got a girlfriend. Tony: It's the overprotective big brother routine that's getting old. Pause - Given that Abby was at NCIS even before Tony (she worked with Stan Burley) and that she told Gibbs way back in S3 he could forget how old she was when she though he forgot her birthday it's more than likely she's a few years older than Tim - I put her at 39 this year.
* Me thinks he (Tim) doth protest too much when he claims he's not overprotective because when Abby says that "it's OK if I date him?" he tells her "absolutely not".
* Saved by the Gibbs who repeats Tony's admonition: It's the overprotective big brother routine that's getting old. Did he hear Tony say it before he made his presence known? Each viewer can decide for themselves.
* YES! Tony & Ellie got all their info from social media NOT any law enforcement database.
* Gear up. Time for the case but on his way out Tim tries once more to forbid Abby to date Burt. She stops him.
* The crime scene. Unnecessary sniping. Both Tony & Tim ask rhetorical questions but both take the other's as a reason to grouse at the other. Enough said (and than goodness it didn't continue!).
* Hooray. Jimmy is back. He really should be in every episode since, for me, it's really noticeable and feels like something is missing when he's gone.
* NCIS called in when a lockbox was found under the spare tire in the boot. Contains troop deployment orders.
* Car rented to an Angus Clarke. Same address in Beaconsfield (UK) of a friend of Ducky's from childhood. When he realizes this is the same man, he's visibly upset.
ACT I:
* Ducky watching Jimmy from the hall outside autopsy. Gibbs comes. Tony may not like it when Gibbs is nice but I do. He says "You don't have to do this. We can bring in someone else" (although that doesn't make sense since Jimmy ran the whole show when Ducky was out on medical leave after his heart attack). I loved Ducky's response. D: No we can't. When Kate was taken from us and Director Shepard, Mike Franks (not to mention Chris "Oh, Christopher. What have they done to you" Pacci) their autopsy's were all I had left of them. If I wasn't willing to give up those last moments with them I'm sure as hell not now. I loved the smile Gibbs gave to Ducky's retreating form as he headed into the room.
* He tries doesn't he? As awkward as he gets sometimes Jimmy does mean well and I appreciate Ducky appreciating it. J: What happens when frogs park illegally? Ducky startled at 1st but when Jimmy explains it was an attempt to cheer him up a bit he responds. D: What happens when fogs park illegally? J: They get - toad. It wasn't a full-blast smile but the small one he gave showed that it did cheer him up a little. And it's about to get better. All the preliminary work Jimmy did, including taking x-ray's eliminates this being Angus. This man has his central incisors intact - Angus's were glue back in after having them knocked out/lose. Who did that to him. Ducky.
FLASHBACK: Train station. Ticketbooth man being Ducky on Donnie and no matter how hard Ducky/Donnie tries to get him to stop talking and give him his ticket he keeps chattering. Saved by Angus who tells the guy that Ducky is needed in surgery.
* Loved Donnie/Ducky wearing a turtleneck - nice shout out to Illya Kuryakin. 1st time since The Meat Puzzle Kate: Gibbs? What did Ducky look like when he was younger. Gibbs - pauses and then: Illya Kuryakin. Kate looks perplexed.
* Ducky joined the RAMC (Royal Army Medical Corps). Reports in 30 days. Surprise party on site since Angus knew he couldn't trick Ducky to go to one.
* Abby-ville. ID on what caused the explosion. AT4 - anti-tank weapon. Very common. Nav system in car programmed for NCIS. Probably bringing the little metal box and a flashdrive that survived too. Dossiers on Sailors (not all officers as Abby said - just look at the photos) All are dead. Natural causes or accidents. Weird. ID on body is in. Samuel Colpepper - he worked for Angus.
* Bad news. Angus Clarke left for the UK 3 days ago and he hasn't been seen since. Ellie being sent to the UK to wait for Clarke to show up. Gibbs asks Ducky about his vacation time - he has lots. He takes the hint and literally runs to join Ellie in the elevator.
FLASHBACK Ducky and Angus fighting - at the going away party. The last time the 2 men saw each other.
ACT II:
* London. Glad they used a few seconds of actual footage but it's really too bad that the mothership never actually gets the budget money to travel anywhere.
* Both Ellie & Ducky snore. She admits it. He claims he doesn't. Rows 24-29 could testify on her behalf.
* At the hotel (the one Angus owns) they're met at the front desk by the man's personal assistant; Gareth Godfrey. They pair stopped by the police station on the way to the hotel - no news on Angus. Gareth refuses they access to Clarke's office but is overridden by a woman - his wife. She wants him found or the divorce they had in the works will have to wait another 7 years. 7 years? I thought it was 2 years to get a divorce. Would it really take another 7 to re-file?
* Soon-to-be ex-wife knows Ducky and Ellie picks up on this. E: I want to be her when I grow up.
FLASHBACK Ducky/Donnie dancing w/Angus. Didn't get name of this song. Song ends. Woman enters. Maggie - later Margaret Clarke. Going away present from her: A bowtie. "Donnie" can't imagine wearing one. When would he wear it since he'll be in the Army he would be in uniform or scrubs? Maggie: Wardrobe update. You're a medical doctor not Doctor Who (yes, he wore a bowtie back in 1968). Angus' gift: A scalpel. Looks way to heavy to be used in surgeries.
* Ducky planning on being an Obstetrician. Changed mind from being a surgeon because he doesn't want to spend another 4 years in school and not a lot of deaths in delivering babies.
* Guess he had a change of mind. D: I've had it up to here with cadavers. If I never see another dead body it'll be too soon.
* Phone brought to table. It's for Ducky. Deliberate shout out to Star Trek (I asked Steve Binder on Twitter). D: How should I know? I'm a doctor not a veterinarian, mother. Yay! Love that he worked in Mrs Mallard. Her Corgies got into the liquor cabinet - again.
* The trio toast themselves: to the Three Musketeers,
* Now this song I was able to identify: Time of the Season. Maggie dances alone after Angus heads to the head and "Donnie" says he doesn't like it.
* Assistant Gareth comes across as a bit fussy when Ducky & Ellie enter Angus' office and they shut him out. There's a bed in there.
* Ellie checks out his desk and find a photo of 3 people - Angus, Maggie and Ducky. E: Is this you? You were hot. Like really really - never mind. Sorry. D: For what? I really loved that turtleneck. Dang I miss our good emoticons - I want a [biggrin] for here. Definitely an homage to when David was Illya.
* A find for the case. Ellie discovers an email. Same as were on the flashdrive. Sends it to Abby.
Oops! Woman dressed in bra and underwear comes out of a bathroom, says something in Albanian, grabs her clothes and makes a run for it with Ellie in pursuit.
* Meanwhile, back at the ranch. Warehouse. 2 men arguing when Gibbs & Tony arrive. One is Peter Velo. He's pushy. Wants to bail out Mr Kowalski who would rather he get lost. He ID's Colpepper as a top employee of Angus Clarke. Says they were at odds.
* Abby-ville. Uh Oh. Not natural/accidental deaths after all. Three more names: Heart attack - or not. Drowning - or not. and - NOT DEAD - yet.
ACT III:
* Good think Gibbs & Tim were there. They go to see the Commander who isn't dead. Jogging. Great shape. Plans to live a long time. Takes a drink from his water bottle - and a few seconds later collapses. Call 911.
* UK Ducky & Ellie in the restaurant at Angus' hotel. They were informed about the Commander and that he survived. Cause of death was suppose to be allergic reaction. Bra & undies woman is from Albania. Works at hotel. Swears nothing going on with her boss. Enter Maggie. Exit Ellie (off to see Big Ben). Cheerio. Maggie doesn't recognize any of the men in the photos and knows nothing.
FLASHBACK Things go south. Donnie wants Maggie to come with him on his 30 day tour of the country. Too late. She's already w/Angus.
* Doctor Who song playing in the background.
* The fight continues from Ducky's earlier memory. Donnie kisses Maggie and she doesn't push him away. She excuses herself. The fight happens after disparaging remark from Angus about Maggie. D: You don't even love her, mate. A: And you do? Yes, he does - though he doesn't verbalize it. A: Keep her. She's nothing but a cheap floozie anyway. Yep, I can completely see Ducky not letting that pass.
* So. Donnie/Ducky leaves so she stays with and marries this guy.
* Bullpen. Jimmy w/toxicology report. Is edged out by Gibbs. Tim & Tony with case info. Every dead sailor was in a position of authority and all were replaced with Albanian-American sailors.
* Applause Jimmy? Really?
* Bad news from the UK. Angus is dead. His body found at the bottom of the river (the Thames?).
* Back in the UK Ducky tells Maggie without words - the look on his face tells her.
* Ducky didn't take his gift scalpel with him when he left - it's in Angus' office. Maggie says that other than marrying her the loss of their friendship was Angus' biggest regret. Time to go tell the employees that Mr Clarke is dead but waiting just outside the door is Gareth - come to tell them the news they already have.
* Interrogation. Tony getting nowhere with the sailor he's questioning. He's nonchalant. Tony gives up, suspect handed over to unnamed agent in the hall. Tony enters observation to a waiting Gibbs. This was #5 of 5. None even budges. Both men know they all have more to gain than lose by staying silent.
* Tim with something that might bring them all down. All listed the same emergency contact: Gareth Ahmeti (yep, same guy we know as Godfrey). He's an Albanian mafia assassin.
* UK - Angus' office Probably thinks Ducky isn't on to him. Ducky knows something is up. They keep trying to get rid of him but he's made himself at home.
* Bullpen. Nothing could ever be pinned on Gareth but he's involved somehow in the smuggling operation going on in the US using US sailors of Albanian descent. Department heads killed to make room for their people to be put in place. (who made the assignments? how could it be guaranteed that "their men" would get the assignments?)
* Jimmy still stalking Gibbs, Tony & Tim but it pays off. Gibbs wants to know where Gareth is and Jimmy pipes in with the answer. Living in the UK under the last name Godfrey and is/was Angus Clarke's assistant.
* In the UK Ducky gets a call from "Jethro".
* He knows they know and the farce ends. When Ducky asks for a private moment with Maggie he gets his phone grabbed and smashed against the wall instead.
ACT IV:
* Overlapping conversations in the bullpen. Gibbs talking to Ellie. Tony & Tim on the phone with various agencies (here and UK).
* UK During a split second while Gareth's back is turned Ducky grabs the scalpel - and then shows it to Gareth. He's not worried. He's a trained assassin after all. Big mistake. Ducky manages to give him a stab in the upper right arm nicking his brachial artery. Bleeding out. 90 seconds to be treated or he'll die. Gareth: You have to do something. Ducky: No, I don't. I loved the tone of his voice and the look in his eyes as he said it. Demands info in exchange for help. Prostitution ring being run out of the hotel. Angus given no choice. Help or we kill Maggie. He tried anyway - to get the smuggling ring in the US shut down, using Colpepper to get the info to NCIS so it couldn't be traced back to him. Unfortunately his email was being monitored.
* Gareth slipped up. Says he's told everything he knows but that's a lie because he said "WE were running a prostitution ring". On the smuggling operation he's just an errand boy. D: Is it someone you're willing to die for? If so, be my guest. And the Ducky awesome continues.
* USA Warehouse again. Gibbs & Tony approach Mr Kowalski who's being hovered over by Peter Velo. They've struck a deal - bank really gave Mr K now choice. Is about to sign. Not gonna happen. When confronted about the smuggling operation Velo laughs and then turns and runs while Tony & Gibbs just stand there and watch. Velo runs smackdab into McGee and finds his face full of gun. He's backed up to where his partners await. Mr K. is one happy warehouse owner.
* UK. On the banks of the Thames. Big Ben, Parliament across the river. Ducky looking out over the water. Ellie on phone (taxi drivers on strike). SAC (strategic air command?) at NCIS will be coming to give them a lift to Heathrow. 30 minutes. She asks if he's OK (I really can see her as his surrogate granddaughter) and how he left things with Maggie. D: I didn't. I just left. And she there. Ellie walks away to give them privacy.
* I don't agree her assessment when she says that Ducky didn't let her explain.
FLASHBACK Ducky is waiting in the main lobby of the rail station when Maggie walks in - the only bag she's carrying is her purse. She just stands there inside the doors and doesn't approach. Ducky has 2 rail passes. He gets the message so picks up his suitcase and heads toward the door that leads to the trains.
* She says she chose wrong, that she and Angus were better as friends. She realized this pretty quickly (but stayed married for many decades) but when she did Ducky was already in Vietman.
* She notices his bow tie - he hadn't been wearing one before. He still hates them - impossible to keep straight - but wears them for her. She looks startled but she gets it. He tells her a short story. D: A good friend of mine lost his soulmate but then nearly wrecked his life (and all the ex's too, I would imagine) by marrying the wrong woman over and over trying to find her again. I chose to skip that part.
I'm positive Ducky didn't learn this lesson from Gibbs he was just wiser to begin with and didn't go down that path.
* So now what? Ducky content to just stand there with her silently for a while but shows her he kept the rail pass he bought for her back then.
Note: I'll check for errors later this evening and get them corrected.
