‘REQUIEM’ (5.7)
Okay, since this is going to be long, I'm not going to do the spoiler cover.
And as always, I'm fairly certain that something else will occur to me but for now, enjoy.
'NCIS' has once again taken my breath away. This group of people is the most talented in the business today. 'Requiem' was beautiful.
* Whoa! Tony is one hell of a shot. He's in a panic, running and shooting all at the same time and gets BOTH of the baddies, the look on his face was dead serious - said he meant business.
At that point he didn't care who he had to go through.
* I definitely didn't expect the opening scene to be the one we saw in the preview trailer. This whole scene took my breath away. Beautifully filmed with outstanding performances. I found myself holding my breath while Tony was trying to get Maddie (though we didn't know her name yet) and Gibbs out of the car. I was exhausted for him. When Jethro couldn't free himself of the stuck steering wheel I kept saying "Hurry, Tony. Hurry!" I’m sure since Gibbs pushed Maddie toward Tony that Tony though he’d be swimming out on his own.
* "C'mon, boss." "Don't do this to me, boss." "Don't make me kiss you, boss." (and then gave the breath of life). Then having to make the decision to switch over to Maddie but looking back at Gibbs. Michael W was fantastic in this scene.
Then we bounce back to 24 hours earlier:
* Goofy moment when McGee gives Maddie's approximate age instead of why she's there. One look from Gibbs put him back on track.
* Nice to know that Tony, Abby and Tim DO know about Shannon and Kelly. I know it's been debated if they knew since we were never shown that they did.
* I liked that Jethro took the picture of Kelly and Maddie. She was too young to remember that it was him but I'm glad that Gibbs remembered.
* Maddie: "I never stopped crying." That's okay Maddie, neither did Kelly's daddy.
* Why did Jethro tell Jenny that helping Maddie isn't personal? (more on this later).
* I really felt for Jethro when he could hear himself singing 'Hush Little Baby" to Kelly.
* I loved that by the time Gibbs (yes, I go back and forth calling him Jethro or Gibbs) got back to the office his team was hot on the case.
* Up until Jethro told Jenny that he'd known Maddie 15 years ago, I think she thought he was a cradle robber and was a bit jealous.
* Nice to hear Johnny Cash on the car radio (song: 'Big River')
* Bad guy or not, that crucification scene was just plain disturbing.
*b And on that note, where did all the flies go? You'd think there would still be a few swarming about even after the elevator doors were propped open.
* Okay, why no Jimmy - again. Scene of the crucifixion would have been a perfect scene for him to be in.
* Loved loved loved Abby telling Jethro and Ducky to get out of her lab so she could get back to work and then realizing that she was in autopsy. This little piece of humor was greatly appreciated by this woman in this very dramatic episode.
* We've all said this before but it deserves repeating: NO ONE, ACTS BETTER WITHOUT UTTERING A SINGLE WORD OF DIALOG THAN MARK HARMON!
* I really enjoy Jenny and Jethro's interrogation room scenes.
* My jaw dropped when the Colonel said they allowed Maddie to be abducted.
*b Max Bourdais was a slimy little worm even if he didn't technically do anything wrong.
* Jenny right on top of her game again when she took on the Colonel and Max. Sent Jethro out of the room and then let them know that she's no wuss.
* 'Ground Control to Major Tom' - David Bowie. Had to be yet another great Michael Weatherly ad-lib.
* Jenny and Tony only admit to each other that they've called Jethro. Even with the blow up of the La Grenouille mission, they still have a special bond.
* Rescue. First I must say I'm very very very happy that Maddie wasn't in on it with the bad guys. I simply couldn't have handled that.
* Rescue B: Maddie fought back.
* Rescue C: (Tony's part): Tony 2. Bad guys - Dead!
* In the opening scene I wondered how the car ended up in the water. Now we know. Man, that was fast.
* "It's okay, Daddy." "Go back." "I love you, Daddy." This is where I started to tear up. Got worse with his vision of Shannon and Kelly looking content. I lost it entirely when:
* We see how he's arranged the two pictures: He and Maddie in the picture Abby took coupled with the picture of Maddie and Kelly with the child Maddie covered up. Jethro in the middle with his arms around both.
* Final note: I've decided not to look in the time capsule. That is if I can hold out long enough for CBS.COM to take it off their site. ;-)
EDIT(12:16am): Disregard the above. I looked and am now sobbing.
EDIT (Aug 2010) – I made myself forget what was in the box.
