The last episode that aired last night here in Chicago was the first one featuring DI Mooney which is being called season 6 episode 7 here. I saw a promo this week for it and noticed there was a new lead on the show. Why did the other guy go? Or can someone point me in the direction of the answer? Kris Marshall left because the grueling shooting schedule and remote shooting locations kept him away from his family too much. The original lead left for much of the same reason.

I hope this one stays longer (I haven't watched it regularly) but I am hoping for the fans of the show it happens.

They film the show in Guadalupe, in the Caribbean. They spend 6 months shooting 8 one hour episodes. Both Ben Miller, and Kris Marshall found it difficult being away from their families for that long of a time, although Kris was able to take his family with him the first couple of years since the children were young. Now that they are school age, they have to stay in England. That is the reason both of them were written off the show. (Ben killed, Kris found love in London) Now Ardal O'Handlon has the lead. From what I understand Danny John-Jules will be leaving after season (series) 7. There have been several cast changes with now only two original members left. Catherin Bordey and Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, played by Elizabeth Bourgine and Don Warrington, respectively. (Sara Martins and Gary Carr having left before or during season 4.)
I enjoy the series, we are now watching season 7, O'Handlon's first full season. While each lead had their own character and style, they each also had an annoying trait that gradually got on the audience's nerve. Poole constantly complaining about the heat, and Humphrey's lost little puppy dog, I want to find true love act were getting tiresome. I'm not sure what O'Handlon's act will be, but hopefully it won't be too annoying.
I'm not sure how long they can keep the interest up, although Josephine Jobert is quite easy on the eyes, with the loss of all the original officers once Danny leaves, but I'll be willing to wait and see.

Shame Danny John-Jules is leaving. Always like Dwayne. It'll be interesting to see who replaces him. So far I like Ardal O'Hanlan. D.I. Mooney seems to have adapted to life in the Carribean rather well.

Mooney seems to have adapted to life in the Carribean rather well. They've signed a young lady, I've seen a picture of her, quite attractive, to take his place. The character will have the unfortunate handicap of being Commissioner Patterson's niece. It will be interesting to see where they take that. It will also be interesting to see J. P. as the senior officer.

Finally got to see the first episode of season 8 on PBS Saturday night. They really only mentioned Dwayne's departure briefly. His replacement makes her debut in episode 2 and judging by the previews they showed at the end of the episode Jack and especially J.P are going to have their hands full.
I also just read that Josephine Jobert who plays Florence will be leaving the show somewhere around episode 6 or 7.

WOW Dwayne was my favorite character and he was followed close by J.P. and Florence. Sure going to miss Dwayne and Florence.
