I never try to think these situations thru', but that sounds about right, dude...
btw, is it me or is LJG looking just a little too "long in the tooth" these days to be doing a Rambo impersonation?

Okay, I didn't watch this finale but I need to know: what was the cliffhanger *this* year?

Okay, I didn't watch this finale but I need to know: what was the cliffhanger *this* year? The cliffhanger this year is stupid. Catch it on CBS.com all access. You can watch the last five episodes for free.

Okay, I didn't watch this finale but I need to know: what was the cliffhanger *this* year? You should really watch the episode. The case was fairly interesting and every time they seemed to figure out what was going on, they realized they were wrong and had to look at it differently. The cliffhanger was somewhat predictable but *how* they plan to resolve it could be very interesting. They could go a number of different directions. If you're really interested in the ending without watching the whole episode, you can watch it here: {Spoiler Warning - Click Here}

after watching that 4 minute clip I still can't, for the life of me, figure out why Gibbs threw his rifle in the brush, pulled out his handgun and continued shooting at the "bad guy thugs"?
can someone please "'splain" to me why he didn't make a run for the helicopter like everyone else?
unless, like dude says, to state "the obvious": to create the super dramatic, nail-biter, will he survive it!?, cliffhanger season finale...
um, sorry, NCIS writers, that ending was none of the above; it was just plain dumb...

I think he tossed the rifle because it was out of ammo.

after watching that 4 minute clip I still can't, for the life of me, figure out why Gibbs threw his rifle in the brush, pulled out his handgun and continued shooting at the "bad guy thugs"? It's easy to miss with all the background noise, but Gibbs ran out of ammunition. You can just hear it click without firing just before he dumps the weapon. I suspect that he had used up any spare ammo and dumped the rifle so he wasn't hampered by the bulky weapon. Pretty sure Tim dumped his rifle for the same reason too.
why didn't he make a run for the helicopter like everyone else?
unless, like dude says, to state "the obvious": to create the super dramatic, nail-biter, will he survive it!?, cliffhanger season finale... It was also subtle, but the helo was taking fire (you can see some bullets ding the chopper as its taking off). My thoughts were that at that close of range, even small arms could take down the chopper. (That's a total guess on my part but it is what I assumed, so take that how you will.) Gibbs hung back to try to draw the rebel's fire from the helo to give them the best chance to escape. Considering how he was taking down baddies, he became a greater threat and allowed the chopper to get away.
But it also creates a dramatic cliffhanger. So there's that too! Granted, I don't believe for a second that Gibbs and McGee are going to die. But it is going to be fun watching the premiere to figure out how they get out of the situation.

As soon as the other chopper is clear, Airwolf will swoop in and take care of the bad guys. Only problem is with Borgnine dead and JMV retired, they'll have to find some footage to recycle and pair with Geraint Wyn Davies and Michele Scarabelli flying.

They could always have Harmon Rabb swoop in flying a fighter jet and level the playing field.

Airship was taking Gunfire. McGhee stated if the copter goes down this was for nothing (or words to that effect) Jumps off to assist Gibbs (Cue the Butch and Sundance effect and soundtrack -- except that was in Bolivia and Margo Harshman gets to play the Mrs Sundance role)
Fade.
Here are the issues / scenarios. US Navy and USG Administration look bad if this makes the news. basically an armed invasion of a foreign nation. Vance, as Director, is on the line because the buck stops with him. Sec Nav as well. Sec Def has some plausible deniability ("They went Rogue Mr President, it was not sanctioned yadda yadda")
Gibbs and McGhee manage to take out the bad guys with handguns and escape and evade to secondary rendezvous point, or manage to get out. No harm no foul no resignations. Sec Nav gets ticked off but all is well that ends well. She yells at Vance Vance yells at Gibbs, who smiles and goes to next case.
Gibbs and McGhee make it out Sec Nav tells Vance to resign for approving such a harebrained idea and directs LJG to turn in retirement. McGhee elevates to MCRT Team lead. Ducky Retires and Palmer becomes the new Chief, Pathologist and Medical Examiner. Director NCIS becomes someone behind the door we never see or only in passing.
Gibbs and McGhee get caught and SecNav sends in Seal Team 4 to the rescue.
or something equally harebrained occurs. Gibbs and company embark on their 15th season of solving crimes.
Actually it is a really nice beer microbrewed in Atlanta GA.

McGee and Gibbs get captured and end up officially under arrest by the Colombian authorities. A mysterious man shows up saying his boss was able to pull some strings to allow his team to be their defense without being licensed in that country and his name is Benny Colon...
