What was the song at the end? No the bracelet was not the same as Gibbs wore during the first seasons, the chain was smaller and obviously the name was different. Really good start to the season.

- I wasn’t sure how much I expected to see between the time that the finale ended and the premiere picked up but I was expecting a little more other than Torres threatening the pilot. Which, seriously, that pilot was seriously stone-faced when Torres pulled the gun on him. I wasn’t expecting fear but there wasn’t any reaction whatsoever! Would definitely have been better having him reply that if the gun is fired the chopper goes down, probably killing both of them plus the kids they just saved. Maybe it's just what I wanted to hear, but both Palmer and Bishop sounded a bit sarcastic while saying that. Could have been a bad read by the actors who almost certainly knew what it was. I mentioned earlier in the thread that the scenes in the preview were probably out of order. I was reminded of a couple of previous characters. With the trying to make Gibbs work for him I was reminded of Paloma Reynosa, and the only other episode where I recall a reference to 'El Jefe' was 'Iced' in season 3 where the jefe was also killed by his own people. They just needed a heavy bad guy Gibbs could call 'El Gordo'. It could be something that continues to be investigated this season. or so he says. Maybe he ran across it in his hobby with the Sherlock Society. And the guy leading the DC inquiry was Robert Pine, father of Chris Pine who plays the reboot Captain Kirk. I'd say the emotionally. When you're the one taking the pain you know if you can handle it. When you're watching a friend be tortured it probably feels like you are responsible for the pain they are feeling. I think I'd last a lot longer taking the pain. Not so much that he'd cracked, but that he thought what he'd done was harmless are truly the right thing to do. And looking as attractive as ever. Didn't look a bit like she'd been worried sick for two months. As if a hallucination would admit to it... I believe the line in 'Iced' was, "it depends on the jury." Typical Gibbs. We always hope for these things to change him a bit but they never do. By the way, the "be nice" bit comes from a Patrick Swayze movie called Road House. By the way, video is slightly nsfw due to language.

llyan - thanks for the recap! My thoughts were pretty parallel to yours also. I thought McGee caved at first too but when they started arguing/ fighting I thought it was a ploy. I enjoyed the episode - good start to the season!

Maybe it's just what I wanted to hear, but both Palmer and Bishop sounded a bit sarcastic while saying that. Could have been a bad read by the actors who almost certainly knew what it was. I had thought that they might be aiming for sarcastic but if so, they missed the mark a bit, at least in my opinion. Oh, you're right. I forgot about that. Good points, both of them! And the guy leading the DC inquiry was Robert Pine, father of Chris Pine who plays the reboot Captain Kirk. I didn't know that but interesting tangential connection. He did a good job at playing a hard-ass politician. Until the cameras were off, I fully believed that he was bringing the hammer down on NCIS. Hopefully Vance has enough political points to still get some good tickets to the Wizards after this. I'd say the emotionally. When you're the one taking the pain you know if you can handle it. When you're watching a friend be tortured it probably feels like you are responsible for the pain they are feeling. I think I'd last a lot longer taking the pain. I totally agree. Plus it doesn't help that McGee is a thinker. He probably thought about every scenario over and over again trying to figure out if they could do something different to escape. They've said this is going to linger for the two characters and that could make for some interesting repercussions. Although, they've said that before. We'll just have to see how well Frank and George can balance those things as the season continues. And looking as attractive as ever. Didn't look a bit like she'd been worried sick for two months. I think Delilah is the type to channel all of her worry into doing everything and anything to find her husband. It's not that she wasn't worried, she just was doing anything she could to not think about it. And when we saw her, she wasn't exactly in the depths of despair. She got the non-denial, denial from Bishop that all but confirmed they had a lead the first time. The second time, she was actively working with Abby to help find Tim and the third time, she knew Tim was safe and had probably talked with him to hear it for herself. Typical Gibbs. We always hope for these things to change him a bit but they never do. There was a twitter exchange between a fan and Steve Binder that I liked that puts this into a better light: Gibbs is a loner and processes things in solitude. He took a moment to stop by his NCIS home before he heads to his basement to decompress and process things in his own way. But it is nice knowing that Dr. Grace will be back. He's going to need her after this.

I had thought that they might be aiming for sarcastic but if so, they missed the mark a bit, at least in my opinion. The other idea I had was that maybe there was some more to the conversation edited off of the beginning where someone said something to them about something else being before their time. I thought for certain one of those three was going to turn out to be dirty and deliberately blocking the efforts of NCIS. I don't remember the exact line, but the preview for next week had McGee saying something to Gibbs about not being able to just act like it never happened. I'd rather have Dr. Kate's Sister, but at least it isn't Dr. Ryan. The familiar environment will be helpful, though it would also be good for him to go visit his friend the horse - it can be his therapy animal.

When Bishop asked if he was going to McGee's and he said "No" or his look said "No", and then Bishop nodded, I thought he was thinking and Bishop knew, "Hell, No! I've just spent a month with him, why do I want to spend more time with him?". We know what a nerd McGee is and that Gibbs is not. While they probably bonded I think if I had to spend a that amount of time with someone, I'd want distance as well. Perhaps I'm just a mini Gibbs though.

Added. It's tough to be witty when you're trying to recover from that kind of episode! I should probably leave it for nas as the expert on Arizona, but in the cooler months a snowball can do decently up in the Flagstaff area. My son first saw snow falling when he was about 4 years old and we had moved to Tucson, so yeah, snowballs can be had in Arizona.

He was known to dislike Arizona and his horse did lose a contact lens there.

- Sneaky preview people. The scene where they see the men working on the uranium was reversed in the preview. I had been convinced that was Torres in the suit coming to rescue Gibbs and McGee.I mentioned earlier in the thread that the scenes in the preview were probably out of order. So I was thinking of the season preview again ( this one) and I don't recall the line that Gibbs uttered at the end being said in the episode. He said "I've survived worse, cheated death a bunch, but this was different." Gibbs didn't say that in this episode did he? I wonder if that's from his talks with Dr. Grace. The Palmer fainting scene is from the second episode (it's in next week's preview) so it wouldn't be a stretch that they took a line of dialogue too.

This was one of the best opening episodes in a long time IMO. There was an awful lot to like about it. I definitely believe there'll be a lot of emotional fallout from this.

Thoughts -
- Abby from seasons 1 & 2 made a most welcome appearance. Hope she stays.
- CBS glossed over Quinn's departure just as I understand they did with "Kevin Can Wait's" death of his wife. Classless.
- Missed Quinn. She could have added quite a bit to this story.
- Three scenes, great contribution from Margo Harshman. From her time with "The Big Bang Theory" where I first saw her to now, she has matured into a wonderful actress. If they felt they needed to "add a character" then they should give her a more prominent roll. Yes, I've seen where she is now considered a part of the regular cast and no longer a "guest star", still, adding a quality, proven talent, that already meshes with the rest of the cast would add so much more than risking bringing in an unnecessary variable.
- Pretty sure they tried to pull a fast one on the audience. Unless that SAT phone could read McGee's bio-metrics, there is no way they could have matched Him with anyone, let alone himself, as they apparently did.
- On another thread, it was mentioned that this season premier would be better than "Truth or Consequences". It was good, but not "TOC" good.
- Glad to see Reeves in a more useful roll. Hope that continues.

finally getting a chance to chime in - it's been a busy day!
right you are, seldon! snowballs do quite well up in Flagstaff, as do snowmen and snowladies! skiing & snowboarding (and winter snow play) are big business up in the Snowbowl...
as the "expert on Arizona" I must tell you that during the winter months there are many nights here in Southern Arizona where snowballs would "do decently", too! temps at night sometimes get down to freezing, and tho' we don't get the "white stuff", it's desert cold... by "desert cold" I mean the air gets so cold it'll suck moisture out of everything - and that's pretty darn cold!
as for last night's episode, I thought it was pretty good...
like llyan, even tho' I knew Gibbs & McGee were going to make it out alive I realized I was holding my breath until the scene ended...
I thought the scene between Tim & Delilah was quite touching... when he walked in and put his head in her lap, and neither of them said a word - beautiful! 😌
