While one might question my choice to review Abby's reaction to Reeve's death, this reaction was/is the key to the whole episode.
Abby always bonded tightly to everyone she met, even if other's didn't always bond tightly to her. (Torres) So it is no surprise that she would be close to Clayton. It is also no surprise that she took his death hard, and even more so since he gave his life to save hers. So while it might be something of a surprise that she would want to leave to fulfill Clayton's desire to form the charity, it is not out of character for her to do so.
Pauley, no matter what the general audience thinks of her as a person, either good or bad, is an excellent actress. She was able to pull off the adult Abby, digress into the silly, childish Abby, then morph back into the adult, mature Abby with apparently no problem, and those skills were on full display in Autopsy with Clay's body. For me, this was the whole show. Abby saying thank you and good-bye to her hero. Don't let this scene be lost in your memory, it was powerful and poignant and should have a place someday in the great scenes of TV.
Pauley's performance, while not necessarily well written, was well executed.
