First, since Gibbs never dealt with Reeves death, there was no reaction. Perhaps there will be in the future, but he was solely focused on Abby this episode, so will I be here.
I know nobody knows what happened, or why, but the fact is, we didn't get a personal face to face good-bye between two of the core-four, and we all feel robbed by this. And as viewers, we should. But it is what it is, so we move on.
Gibbs focus on fulfilling his promise to protect Abby drove him to the usual actions we have grown familiar with over the years. (i.e. working Torres past the point of exhaustion) The one thing the writer's got right in this episode, was giving the audience a visual of the respect the two characters have/had for each other.
As I stated in another thread, the final scene between Gibbs and Abby was (for me) believable. Abby chickening out of saying Good-bye to Gibbs face to face is in keeping with her character. So I had no problem with this scene. And Harmon played the part to his best, as did Pauley, and as hard as it must have been for both of them, at least they were professional enough to give the audience this. And for that, I thank them.

They didn't really. Pauley was alone with the crew filming in front of a green screen (her call to KTLA Wednesday morning). Mark filmed his at another time.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5nhzUDthVs I know they didn't film the scene together. They probably wouldn't have even if they were on good terms. My statement was that the writer's gave the audience the appearance of respect between the two characters. The editor's did the rest. Sorry if that wasn't clearly stated.

Having just recently watched Abby's farewell episode, (I didn't bother until recently because let's face it I completely stayed away from the show after having quit watching it) I think the scene was very well acted by actors who were not in the same physical existence as each other.
And what gets me about the scene is the signing. The signing itself is what allows me to see the scene in the universe of the show without being *stuck* on what I know to be going on behind the scenes.
I don't think I could watch the scene without the signing and still be able to focus while rolling my eyes so hard it hurts, like how I was during Whiskey Tango Foxtrot for example.
