They do have the New Orleans team. They (Christopher LaSalle) even, via MTAC and mobile phone interacted with Gibbs tonight. Chris even asked about how Vance is doing.

thanx, pd...
I definitely didn’t see the shot “between the eyes” - I must have looked away from the screen for a second because all I saw was him laying on the ground...
the completely unnecessary killing of the bodyguard and total annihilation of those beautiful lava lamps makes me verrrry unhappy... 😥

I was typing our “this agent is a Red Shirt” when that bullet hit him and everyone started running and screaming so I missed the actual kill shot.

Tonight was a bit too predictable for us. We pegged the fake "CIA embed" right away, and we were in agreement that Jack would not give in to the Brit babe that easily, unless it was to get taken to Hakim. I liked that the comment was made that you better not get on Jack's bad side, not really pleased with the way it was made. Nice to hear Jarod's name, but would have been good that he was there to greet daddy...

I missed the mention of Jarod's name, apparently.
I found it "convenient" that the red shirt agent carried a revolver and not the usual SIG, causing Kayla to quickly run out of ammo in addition to having terrible aim. I guess they didn't want her to be the one to down the guy.

I enjoyed the episode and I liked the action and throw back to the first time Gibbs was the Acting Director.

Neither fish nor fowl. Very predicable plot line including the fake CIA guy. Still don't care for either the Jake role or the new girl. Now let's see if Vance is fine for the next episode or if he's still hurting. Did enjoy the Lava Lamp lady.

well, Hallelujah!!
🤔 did I miss it or did they not mention the condition of Kayla’s bodyguard? dead? or alive?
nas I believe Ducky stated that he had returned to take care of the bodyguard's autopsy while Palmer did the terrorist. At least I don't think he would call the terrorist, "our fallen comrade". A Russian agent maybe, but not a terrorist.

@ kate...
I didn’t much care for the episode - it was too far fetched (but aren’t they all?)...
and Gibbs as Acting Director fails to amuse me... it’s like telling a bad joke over and over again - when it wasn’t very funny the first time...
@ Hari Seldon...
it’s obvious I’m gonna have to watch the episode again- and this time I’ll keep my nose out of my iPad... 😉

If you've got a copy with the commercials cut, it's around the 23 minute mark.

thanx for the info, but I don’t have a DVR or Tivo, Hari, so I have to re-watch the show with On Demand... as of this writing it’s still not available - 🤔 I wonder what takes CBS (or On Demand) so long to put their series up for viewing...
I can’t fast forward thru commercials on the network channel shows 😕, so unfortunately I’ll have to trudge thru the whole episode again - or stop after I see what I’m looking for at the 23 minute mark...

Liked it for the most part, but really I'm just a bit tired of "terrorist threatens/kidnaps a team member" stories. Knew Kayla's bodyguard was toast the moment I saw him.

The episode was okay - it was a little predictable. But I was pretty sure that Vance would survive and not be a traitor it was kind of what I expected.
It is very weird in the opening credits to see it go from Mark to Sean ...
And yes Ducky was working on the agent who was Kayla's bodyguard.
It is good to see Gibbs in the lab again. Kasie did not irritate me at this point but I am also not feeling any bond with her - time will tell.
I did love seeing Ducky!

CBS.com All Access usually has the episodes up by midnight central time after they air. I just watched it a second time. Still not sure what to think, and yes, I did miss the agent on the table when Ducky made his appearance. "He's Dead, Jim".
As for the rest of the episode. Yes, predictable, finally ended Jack's arc from her introduction last year. At least they took their time with that one, they usually zip through those like a hot knife through butter.
Would have liked to have seen Jerod, should have seen Jerod, in the episode. Not sure about travel time, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't take all day to get from Maine to D. C., could be wrong about that, but. . .
I did find the new girl a bit annoying. They do seem to be trying to replace Abby with Abby 2.1. The Daily observations, the look into my eyes, wind up McGee told her about, just another year of the same ole', same ole'. Really wished they had gone with an older, much more mature actress.
Haven't voted in the poll yet, not sure what to give this one, I'll think about it more. Don't think it will be above a B, probably a C or lower.

So having watched the episode again, I bumped up my rating to an A although it's really somewhere in between and A and B. There were some predictable elements but it was also a pretty good episode that had me on the edge of my seat. I knew that they were going to rescue Vance but as always, its the journey that makes it fun.
Some general thoughts:
Rescuing Vance
- The scene of Vance running through the woods reminded me of the opener of the Season 6 episode Dagger but if you would have replaced the little girl with a guy who can fight back. Although, considering all the guys chasing him, it was really ill-advised to stop to banter with the guy you just knocked out.
- I'm really surprised that they let Vance have a loaded weapon when they robbed the bank. I know that they were threatening his children and that they were counting on that threat to prevent him from attempting to turn on his captors. But it was still a risk to give him a loaded weapon. He could have turned on the captors, and hoped to save his children after he escaped.
- The shots to the eyes of the posters also make me believe that they had already taped the message with the blinks before the robbery. Or at least, Vance knew they were going to put him on camera prior to shooting the eyes out. (Typing that just made me think of A Christmas Story and the red rider BB gun... I hate that movie...) Clever of him to warn them that Kayla was a target, although really NCIS should have had her under more protection that just a balding middle-aged white guy.
- Speaking of, I really liked Rod. They didn't need to kill the poor guy. They could have just shot him to incapacitate him thus allowing Gibbs and McGee to swoop in and save Kayla from the would-be assassin. Having said that, Vance needs to give his daughter some shooting lessons. Also, if you're there to assassinate Vance's daughter, maybe shoot her first instead of giving her a chance to run away?
- I suspected something was shady with the British Ambassador when she asked for the list of potentially compromised undercover agents that were being recalled to avoid Vance compromising them. The only way that list would be shared with a friendly country was if they were involved in a specific case. There's no way the government would just hand over a list of covert agents to any foreign government on a whim.
- So when the British Ambassador turned on Jack, I wasn't surprised. And I also wasn't surprised that Jack had planned to get captured. She was way too calm and collected to be an 'out of control rogue agent torturing an ambassador with immunity.' We saw what Jack looked like when she was out of control last season. This time, she looked like a woman with a specific plan.
- I'm going to chalk Vance trusting the 'CIA operative' so readily up to his injuries and deprivation over the month of his incarceration. I even kinda started to trust him when he gave Vance the gun and the cell phone. But I still wasn't surprised that he was one of Hakim's minions either. It was a pretty clever thing to do to get Vance to force the nuclear facility into the bugged lockdown. Lava lamp encryption is actually a real thing. (I googled it.)
- The scene where Hakim was threatening her absolutely cracked me up. He's standing over them, menacing them and the music cue behind him is this very dramatic music. But when Jack interrupted him with her laugh, the music cut of. As soon as Hakim returned to menacing her, the music picked up right where it left off only to be cut off when she started laughing again. I usually don't notice the music, but in this case, it highlighted the scene for me.
- I'm so glad that Jack got the closure she needed and that she was able to put the Wingos to rest. But at the same time, I never felt like Hakim was the same kind of threat that someone like Ari was. So as for a villain, he was a bit of a fail for me. But he's not dead yet, so I suppose he has time to redeem himself as a villain.
- I liked the reunion with his daughter but it would have been nice to have his son Jared there too. At least they mentioned that Vance has a son. But I'm wondering about the Aunt in Maine. I'm pretty sure Jackie only had a brother and he's in jail. So I guess the Aunt is Vance's sister? I always thought he was an only child but I'm not sure where I got that.
Odds and ends
- I need to go back and watch the first episode with Joey Peanuts. I liked the interrogation with McGee... tried to act all tough and then flipped at the mere mention of being arrested. That could have been any random person in the interrogation room but it was nice to have a familiar character and actor back.
- Jimmy Palmer asked Gibbs to sign a requisition form for pipettes. He's always asking about or looking for pipettes. Nice running gag for his character.
- I wish they would tone down Torres' vanity. I know the thing about waxing was for a joke but it's starting to go over the top.
- I've said it before but I like Kasie. I know people are complaining that she's too much like Abby but I think (hopefully) that's on purpose. She's coming into a job to replace someone that is irreplacable. McGee told her that Abby like to wind up to the big reveal, so Kasie is trying to be Abby and do things like Abby did them. I think at some point, someone is going to tell her to be herself and everyone else can deal with the change and Kasie will grow into herself.
- I liked the little bit where Vance's assistant mentioned the impostor HVAC guy and Kasie asked, "what impostor?" It reminded me of the scene (from the same episode) where Jimmy explained to Bishop that the only way they'd break the windows of Abby's lab was with a pipe bomb since they had installed bullet resistant glass after the sniper and Bishop asked "what sniper." It was a nice way to acknowledge the show's history. The audience knows what the characters are talking about but the newer characters don't.
Ok, I think that's enough for now.

On Demand finally made the 16.01 episode available this afternoon, so I re-watched it... yep, as pd told me, Kayla’s bodyguard took a bullet between the eyes... so, sadly he’s dead... 😕
also, Bishop’s report to Gibbs on the multiple bombings, deaths and injuries just got to me... excessive much?? y’all know how I feel about the use of “KABOOMS” on this show - I just wish they’d stop! I agree with what tuna wrote: the terrorist/kidnapping theme is getting old; the writers need some new material...
