after Jenny left for a short time and put Gibbs in charge you'd think they'd realize he isn't a desk guy.... maybe the gun shot wounds changed all that..... may be not...

One NCIS Character Whose Personal Life Will Be Explored More In Season 16 By Adam Holmes
Leon Vance, played by Rocky Carroll, has been Director of NCIS ever since the end of Season 5, and while most of his duties are carried out from behind a desk, occasionally he finds himself thrust back into action, be it voluntarily or unwillingly. The latter occurred in the Season 15 finale, when Vance was kidnapped by Nigel Hakim, one of the men who held Jack Sloane captive in Afghanistan and who blames Vance for interfering in his operations years ago. However, NCIS fans can rest easy knowing that Vance will not be killed off, because Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer, says that after Vance is rescued in the upcoming 16th season, we'll be exploring more of his personal life. As Dietzen put it:
"One thing we are gonna to get to see this year that I'm really excited about is with the end of last year, Vance was kidnapped. So as we tie up some of that stuff, over the course of the first several episodes, we're gonna get to see Vance's home life and his interactions with his daughter, who's a wonderful actress as well. I think peeking into the personal lives of our friends on this show and our family on this show, it's kind of a cool treat because we see them in their day-to-day operations, but seeing how someone is at work vs. home, sometimes it's two different people. So I would love to get that opportunity as well."
Granted, NCIS is no Game of Thrones, but the show has still built up a high body count over the years, including several members of the main cast, like Duane Henry's Clayton Reeves. Nevertheless, while the specific details surrounding Leon Vance's rescue are understandably being kept under wraps, as Brian Dietzen informed me during a recent interview, we'll spend some time looking in on Vance at home interacting with his daughter. Given how Vance looked on Nigel Hakim's plane in the final seconds of "Date with Destiny," no doubt he hasn't been treated with kid gloves during his months of captivity, so he'll need time to recover once he's free. While he does that, we can see him make up for lost time with his daughter, Kayla, and possibly his son, Jared, too.
This won't be the first time that we've peeked in on Leon Vance's life outside of the NCIS offices. Every now and then the show has peeked in on Vance's interactions with his family, including when Vance's wife Jackie was tragically killed in the Season 10 episode "Shabbat Shalom," the same episode that Ziva David's father, Eli, died. Since Jackie's death, Vance has done his best raising his two children, and as evidenced in Season 15's "Family Ties," he still deals with parental challenges. NCIS will always be primarily focused on the main characters solving U.S. Navy and Marine Corps-related crimes, but it's nice when the show carves out time here and there to show what these characters do when they're not enforcing the law. Vance had dealt with a lot onscreen for a decade, but being kidnapped by a terrorist mastermind definitely ranks among the worst experiences, so it will be interesting to see the aftermath of that and how it bleeds into Vance's personal and professional lives.
NCIS Season 16 premieres Tuesday, September 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, but if you're interested in watching/re-watching Season 15, the DVD collection is now available. You can also check out our fall TV premiere schedule to learn when your favorite shows are returning.

Even though the author mentioned him, this quote from BD leads me to believe the writers have forgotten that Vance also has a son.

I guess he’s gone the way of “what’s his name” Cunningham, eh? 😕
a simple mention of him being in military school or something like that would be nice, but totally ignoring his existence is just plain stupid ... the writers of a supposed #1 television show can really be annoying sometimes!
btw, that is a verrrry cool lava lamp collection!! how many of you can claim to have one of those today? mine “lives” in my living room - and it still works! groovy, huh? 😄

Dear NCIS show runners and writers,
Jared Vance, younger brother of Kayla, exists. His father brought him back an old set of his childhood boxing gloves from Chicago (Kayla got Frango's Candy) and Jared said they were smelly.
Jared and his sister were very kindly distracted by Tony when he chased them around their house with his head stuffed through a pizza box [pretending to be Jaws] after their mother died (much to co-babysitter Ziva's annoyance). The kids both got a few minutes reprieve from their grief.
Jared was around to meet his grandfather (Jackie's long estranged father) and he was around when his mom's brother (Michael?) was in trouble.
Sincerely, A viewer with a memory.
Nas, Chuck. The oldest Cunningham child Chuck was the college student, basketball crazy older brother of Richie and Joannie.

Me. I've got one, but I think it's been sitting unused in the basement for around 15 years. Can't say if it still works or not.

Actually, in the "everything old is new again" category, they have made a comeback. My offspring has a couple that I have purchased for her. Glitter has been added these days, along with neon, glow-in-the-dark and different colors.

Actually, in the "everything old is new again" category, they have made a comeback. My offspring has a couple that I have purchased for her. Glitter has been added these days, along with neon, glow-in-the-dark and different colors. They can do a lot of that by using a blacklight bulb instead of the regular one. The main thing is to make sure it doesn't get too hot.

of course they realize that LJG isn’t a desk guy, kashu, but it’s easier for them to make him the “temp Director” than to bring in a new body...
besides, after all these years we’ve been lead to believe that NCIS doesn’t have any other investigative teams other than Team Gibbs, or any other forensic scientist (Abby) or another ME (Ducky, and now Palmer)...
in fact the whole of NCIS is comprised of those 7 or 8 people... the others you see in the background are just the building maintenance and/or cleaning crew!
