I thought I’d give Magnum another try this afternoon, so I watched episode 1.03, “The Woman Who Never Died” - - and.....
as a desert dweller who desperately misses the ocean, I ❤️ the Hawaiian locale scenes!
the storyline itself I found predictable, and the acting a bit overdone (knew who the bad guy was the second I laid 👀 on him!) not a fan of action movies, so the “roof jumping” scenes didn’t do it for me...
bottom line: if there’s not a Monday Night 🏈 game I want to watch, maybe I’ll watch the show again - or not!
still, I think the Dobermans are the best part of it! what magnificent animals they are! more dogs! more dogs!! more dogs!!!

Thanks usmcbrat. Jay Hernandez portrayal of Magnum is growing on me. Not the same but It is growing on me Have to agree luckysmom, it is growing on me as well. I'm not usually a fan of "reboots" but I am enjoying this one. And, I absolutely love the scenery. It's been a long time since I've seen Dobies around and I do have some bad memories of the neighbor's Dobie chasing our cats into and thru the house. (.45 Cal handgun is an attention--getter ) But Apollo and Zeus are fun to watch.

I've kinda' watched a couple of episodes. (had it on in the background while I was doing other things.) It didn't seem too bad. I might actually sit down and watch a full episode when I have time.

I finally got the opportunity to watch the latest episode. The show quality can still be uneven but a huge shout-out for the guest appearance of Roger Mosley (the original TC). He was a delight!

Roger Mosley made a cameo appearance in which he played a barber - a very cool barber named John Booky! 😊
I just finished watching the two episode series finale of the original Magnum (from 1988) on Cozi TV...
my oh my! Tom Selleck with those long, long legs and those short, short shorts! 😱 I didn’t know whether to laugh 😂 or cringe 😉...

I tried. I really tried. For me this Magnum has about as much charm as a slug. Despite liking Rick & TC I just couldn’t stick with it.
For me Higgins should have remained male and as there are women combat pilots (ala: Tammy Duckworth) TC could have been a woman instead.

this version of Magnum isn’t really “must see” for me... I just tune in from time to time - that’s why I had the answer to kate’s question...
as for keeping Higgins male, I agree NewBe...
it does seem to be the trend lately to re-do movies and tv shows/characters that were originally all male and replace them with an all female cast/character... while it works for me sometimes, other times I feel they should leave well enough alone... f’rinstance I will never, ever be o.k. with a female James Bond... Idris Elba = oh yeah!! any female actress = no way, Jose!

nasIt's been done and it was fun - check out the 1967 Casino Royale. Sorry, but Elba is too old for the part.

To me, Sean Connnery was, is and always will be James Bond. Pierce Brosnan is a close second. I have never been a fan of rebooting or "reimagining" classic shows and movies. It just tells me Hollywood is running out of original ideas. The only exception to this in my opinion was the reboot of Battlestar Galactica. The remake was far and away better than the original.

I agree on Sean Connery, but that's it. Never liked Remington Bond. The big problem with the original BSG is it didn't have time to find itself. BSG is also a great example of bad gender swapping. Nothing against Sackhoff or the way she played her part, but it was a huge mistake to give her character the 'Starbuck' name. Make her Athena, Sheba, or even Aphrodite with the exact same role, but she shouldn't have been Starbuck. I was ok with Boomer.

Idris Elba would be awesome as Bond.
I too would not want a “Jamie Bond”. That character is quintessentially male.

@ Hari...
a quick check told me this about Sean Connery as “Bond - James Bond”:
He played 007 in the first five Bond films: Dr. No (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), and You Only Live Twice (1967) – then appeared again as Bond in Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Never Say Never Again (1983). All seven films were commercially successful.
so, he was 32 when he played him the first time, 53 when he played him last - with a 40-ish year in between...
Idris “hubba hubba” Elba is 46 y/o, so age-wise he’d work just fine... besides, haven’t you heard? 40 is the new 30! 😉
truth be known, I’d trade in my 😍 for the Brit DDF for the Brit Idris Elba in a New York minute (shhh, 🤫 please don’t tell him!)... IE does make me sweat! 😋
