Was really hoping for something better with this episode.
I believe that enough time has passed, I've given the character of Kasey a chance. But this episode just did it for me. I'm not a fan. They tried to replace Abby with Abby2.1 and it's not working for me. Not that I miss Abby, I don't, but this replacement is just off. Unfortunately, it looks like they are going to continue to force a square peg in triangle cut out that's seven sizes too small.

I wasn't super-impressed the first time through but I liked it much more the second. Some quick off the cuff thoughts:
- I think this might be the first time in a while that Thanksgiving wasn't mentioned in an episode this close to Thanksgiving.
- I'm also surprised that they didn't mention that it was (around) the twins first birthday. At least we got a brief mention of them when we saw Torres' bad painting from his ill-fated night out with Jimmy.
- Poor Kasie. She must be a city girl. Nature didn't not sit well with her. Although, I can sympathize with her. Silty mud is like quicksand. I've had to be pulled out of creeks by coworkers while inspecting bridges multiple times because of that kind of sediment. I've also almost lost a hip wader in that kind of mud before too! It also smells awful.
- When that lone guy showed up, I really thought he was stealing evidence and I wanted Torres to take his trash. I was at least gratified to learn that he was involved.
- The scene where Bishop informs Torres that men and women can have platonic relationships really reminded me of the scene with Tony and Kate. It was nice that his reaction was different from both Tony's and Tim's and I got a chuckle out of it.
- When Bishop said she painted last week and now was drawing again this week, I kinda rolled my eyes. But now that I think about it, she was shown to be an artist from one of her first episodes when she sketched "Jumpy the Clown" that matched the description of the street artist murderer from Devil's Triad.
- I loved that Vance knew that Gibbs was going to ask to send people to Afghanistan but then immediately realized that Gibbs already had sent Tim and Ellie.
- While it was nice to see Ducky again, I'm finding I'm missing him far less than I had expected. I still enjoy him when he's on my screen but as long as Palmer is the reasonable mature version of himself and not the dopey dorky Palmer, I don't miss Ducky and his stories. I really liked that Ducky hung up Palmer's sketches. It felt like a symbolic passing of the baton.
- I really expected the contractor to take a swing at Bishop but thankfully he didn't. I'm also glad he didn't try to run considering he was in a room full of ticked off Marines.
- I liked how Kasie motivated Torres to help her look through the footage to try to find the red vehicle. I really don't want to get on her bad side! I also got a good chuckle when she seemed to realize that Palmer had come to help the seemingly a long time after Jimmy had arrived.
- Finally, did anyone noticed some of the weird camera work? The scene between Gibbs and the Colonel was in the extreme close up range and really focused in on their faces. Then later, McGee's head was freaking huge in MTAC. He was the great McOz come to life! I even went so far as to check who the director was to see if they were new but Tom Wright is a long-time NCIS director. He's got 43 episodes to his name going as far back as Season 1's Enigma. He must have been trying out something a little different for this episode.

The overall plot was kind of bland, but back in the 1960s I had to do some work as a Casualty Assistance Officer. I understood and sympathized with the Colonel. Damn tough job and I'm glad I only had to do it twice. Liked the interplay between the Colonel and Gibbs.

I really liked this episode. Especially:
Tim & Ellie in Afghanistn.
Jimmy & Ducky together again. Loved Ducky framing and hanging up Jimmy’s drawings in autopsy.
Liking Kasie more and more.
Loved Marine Jennifer Corbet getting military protocol right by remembering to have Gibbs place his hand over his heart rather that saluting along with the Colonel since he wasn’t in uniform. Really loved Gibbs’: Rest easy Marine. We have the watch.
Very happy the crabby Colonel not being involved in her death.

I was really expecting, when the contractor guy was outed, that the room full of Marines would ask Ellie and Tim to step out for a minute and let them have some alone time with the guy... I really liked that Ducky was stumped for a story when Jimmy suggested the guy broke his own neck and rolled himself into the water. Seemed a fitting way for Ducky to step aside. At the end, when Jethro and the Colonel drove off, my wife said - maybe Gibbs has found another buddy besides Fornell?

The Marines might ask the agents to step outside in real life, but not on the show. Being the show, however, I expected that once the Marines had been convinced that McGee would say something to the effect that the contractor could give him the confession and be arrested or the two of them could leave the guy there with the Marines.
Fornell and Lake have probably set up house and Gibbs is now the third wheel.

Awe! This is super sweet! WOW!!! What a talented Mom. Love those drawings and that they didn't come out of the ubiquitous anatomy text. Hope they're on permanent display in autopsy.
