Awe! This is super sweet! As the show has had a tendency to incorporate things from the actors into the characters, perhaps that's the reason Palmer didn't have a mother any more when he got married. Even if it wasn't in the show, Jimmy's mother probably died around the same time Brian's did.

While I don't disagree with the general statement here, the show does like to incorporate things from the actor's lives into their characters. The fact that McGee is a Navy brat is because Sean was a Navy brat. They asked for a family photo of him and his dad from when he was a kid. The one he provided had his father in uniform so that got incorporated into his character.
But for Palmer, I'm not sure the timing works out for this to be true. At the time Palmer got married (2012) on the show, Brian's mom was still alive. She passed away in 2015 after a car accident in South Africa. I can't remember though, did they say that Palmer's mother had passed when Palmer got married at the end of Season 9?

As far as I know, nothing was ever said on screen about it. Palmer mentioned writing letters to his mother in 'About Face', then while he was engaged he said something about the team being his only family, and nothing in between that I remember.

No surprise Jimmy’s mom died with no fanfare. Abby’s mom also died with during the series. Gibbs had met Gloria. We only found out she was dead when Abby was berating to try harder to be buddy buddy with con artist, manipulative Senior.

I tried to find some info on Brian Dietzen’s mom, but struck out... other than the Twitter post he wrote about her dying, and llyan saying it was in a car accident in South Africa, there wasn’t anything... 🤔 I’m just wondering if she wasn’t a trained professional artist who drew illustrations for anatomy textbooks... anybody know about her?

as I recall from the wedding episode there was no mention about Jimmy’s [biological] family even being at the wedding... all he wanted to do is get back to D.C./NCIS because his “Team Gibbs family” needed him...
over the years NCIS has been written to depict all the characters as being a “tight knit family unit”...
thinking back on that particular wedding episode, I realize it’s just a fictional story but if I was Palmer’s family I’d be a little pissed off that he put his work compadres ahead of the real family who traveled to Florida to see him and Breena get married... but that’s a moot point really, because the Palmer family doesn’t/didn’t exist any longer...
and Breena, being the darling that she is, telling him “That’s fine, Sweetie, whatever you want to do.” her family (and friends) didn't appear to be a consideration either...
okaaaaay...

Altering the subject slightly. I also rather disagree that Ducky is one in a million.
The current US population is around 325 million, meaning that on the average each state would have 6 people who are much like Ducky. I find that number rather high.

I am catching up on NCIS now - I enjoyed this episode. I liked seeing Ducky, and as NewBe said I liked the attention to detail with the escort detail.
