Christmas Eve is on Monday everywhere on the planet.

Well, I liked it.
I didn't have a problem with NCIS hanging onto the baby or with Tim's last second changing of flight time. There are three different airports near Washington and he was flying to Chicago, not some podunk airport in the middle of nowhere. There are many flights via many airlines that fly between Washington/Baltimore and Chicago (and NYC for Kasie.) He might pay through the nose for a last second change on his ticket but it can be done. It was more unlikely that the crew was working on a Sunday, since it seemed like the episode picked up the day before Christmas Eve, which is a Sunday this year. But since it didn't serve the story, the writers conveniently ignored the actual calendar.
Christmas Eve in the U.K. this year is a Monday, is it different where you are? I'm on the same calendar as you are. Unless I'm confused by the number of days in the episode (which is possible). I was under the impression that the murder happened and Tim/Ellie wanted to close the case because they both had early flights on Christmas Eve which was the next day. So that would make the day that they found the baby December 23rd. Bishop and Torres spent the night at Gibbs' house, which was then made the 2nd day in the episode Christmas Eve morning.
I just checked the preview clip and both Tim and Ellie said that they hate flying on Christmas Eve. And later in the episode, after they confirmed the killer, Tim definitely stated that he had an early flight and hadn't packed. So unless they meant they had early Christmas day flights (or he had already changed his flight once), they were working on a Sunday!

first off, I have to disagree with you about Tim staying behind to help with identifying the baby, llyan... first of all, none of them should have been doing it! as Leon said, CPS should have been doing the job... (but then, of course, if they had done the “right thing” there wouldn’t have been a story, right?) Bishop & Torres were working on it - Gibbs & Jack were working on it - “Ka-Ka” & Palmer were working on it... Tim really didn’t need to be there - he had a family of his own to be with! um, what happened to “Family First”? 🤔
yeah, I got the implication that Jack had a baby she gave up; her looking at the pix made the inference about as subtle as getting hit in the head with a brick... so, we know that Jack’s past showed us she was a tortured prisoner - - and now we’re finding out she gave up a child... Question: how many other hardships and sad episodes in her life are they going to write into her storyline before we say, “Geez, enough already!”?

Another agenda item, which NCIS doesn't do very well. Not too keen on the Torres-Bishop get together and even less happy with a possible Gibbs-Jack get together. Breaks one of Gibbs' rules and having been in offices where they occur, have found they create a lot of problems on the job. One good thing, Palmer is a pretty fair actor and when they let him act he does a good job. Last night they let him. Good for them. One of the things I've noticed this season is the lack of mentioning of Gibbs' Rules. I think I've heard them referenced only once, maybe twice. I'm wondering if someone from above sent a memo to lessen the importance of the "Rules" and their impact on story?
While I earlier mentioned that I wasn't against a Torres-Bishop story line as long as they weren't heavy handed with it like they were with DiNozzo and David, It really has felt like they have been throwing them together a lot the past several episodes, and not in a good way. I'm just wondering if Emily and her husband are trying to start a family, and the producers are getting ready to work it into the story line if necessary? It they are trying to start, then good for them, I wish them the best, but a more subtle approach to the romance would be greatly appreciated.
As for Gibbs and Jack, it does seem as if the "Rules" were from another universe in another dimension. But, if I give myself a chance to think about it, it doesn't seem all that bad. Two "Old" broken war horses, each with their own scars, could not only play well, but since she's not a redhead, maybe this time he wouldn't be trying to replace Shannon, and the two of them could help each other heal.
Just a thought.
While I wasn't happy about the heavy handed sermonizing about homeless vets, I do understand and recognize the problem, especially since I have family who have served during war time and peace time. But overall, I just felt this episode went the same way most all of the other episodes have gone this year. It's like the showrunners and writers are phoning it in. It's been a really disappointing season thus far.

IF Emily and her husband are trying to conceive they could do much better than her and Nick making a baby - I’m so sick of “oops, I’m pregnant” stories on TV and in movies. If you’re 15 I get it - they never think it will happen to them - but adults being so reckless? Gimme a break!

Happens a bit more frequently than one would hope, or maybe even expect. And even birth control isn't 100% effective. Only abstinence is. (With one notable exception)

I know it’s not full-proof but it’s ridiculous that it happens all the damn time on TV and in movies. It just annoys the crap out of me.

I rated this a C if only for the Kacie/Palmer storyline which I thought was very well played by both actors. Jimmy channeled his inner Ducky. We got to see the mature Dr. Palmer. I want to see more of that. The rest? Meh..

But the one thing I've learned while developing my writing skills over time is that there are only so many story ideas. Only so many genres, and only so many ways to tell a story. The way to break into a market, is to put a unique spin and or twist on an old story idea. And since Rom-Coms have basically exhausted every romantic story trope there is, it is difficult to be original with romance. Which is probably why I really don't try to write love stories.

Does anyone else, besides me, get the idea that this could very well be the last year.

Does anyone else, besides me, get the idea that this could very well be the last year. Agree. I'm thinking this isn't going past this year. But then again, I thought last year would be the last for Elementary, and they surprised me by renewing it for this year. But if the quality of the story telling doesn't improve, it needs to die. This has just been an awful year so far.

I totally disagree that this season has been awful. It hasn't been great but it's not awful by any means. I also doubt this will be the last season. The ratings are still good enough for renewal. Any end of the show will come from the producers and MH and so far there hasn't been any indication of that.

So, I *did* watch this episode and all I can say is, "Seriously Gibbs, clean out your attic!"
Oh, and also, check the "Baby Trope" off the list of Tropes yet to be done by NCIS.
Now, I think we just need a Chimpanzee episode and the show will have officially checked off all items on the list.

I've seen only two episodes of this season (I'm still getting back into the swing of watching this show, haven't quite yet reached the point where I'm caught up) and I liked them both. I've seen this episode and the Gibbs, Fornell, And Gibbs' random friend at the cabin episode.

The amnesia is up in the air - while Gibbs did have memory loss in 'Hiatus', he still knew who he was. It wouldn't work this late in the game, but back before season 10 I thought they could have had fun with McGee getting hit on the head and thinking he was his counterpart from the books he'd written.
