There's a whole lot of mysteries in this episode. And then there's the case too.
Starting with Gibbs: Where did Gibbs go? Why would he leave his phone, wallet and badge behind? Ziva was mentioned again; did any of this involve her? Was it really about Emily Fornell? Or did it involve the drugs that caused Emily's overdose. McGee did mention that he got a lead on those drugs earlier this season. By the way, sturgeon season is in the spring. Pretty sure that Vance didn't buy it or that McGee didn't know anything more about where Gibbs was (even though he didn't.)
A smaller question but still intriguing: what does Faith need her family medical history for?
Finally, a couple of observations.
1. Musical Chairs seemed to apply not just to the band but also to the team roles this week. McGee took team lead, Ducky helped out in autopsy and as a profiler for Jack.
2. I didn't really miss Gibbs this week. The case was twisty and interesting enough that we were mostly through the episode before realized that Gibbs wasn't going to return to put in his patented Gibbs observation that was going to help them solve the case. Tim did a good job leading the team even if they did take a diversion into the nugget guy's conspiracy theory.
3. Neither of the Clarinetists were actually playing (not a surprise) but as a former band nerd (and a Clarinetist), poisoning the reed is a bit disconcerting.
Pretty good episode tonight. Not sure if I'll give it an A yet, but it was a solid B.
I can see Gibbs leaving the phone & badge, but why leave his wallet? That made no sense. I can see Gibbs leaving to help the Fornells but Please, leave ninja girl out of it! She doesn't need any attention.
I loved watching the team functioning without Daddy Gibbs orchestrating every move. Tim is definitely SFA material.
My music training is on the choral side but I would have loved more band, they sounded great! I wonder how many were real musicians.
Regarding Jack's daughter, as an adoptee myself I can testify to the frustration when asked about "family history" and not being able to answer the question. Or the extra testing or assumptions that are made because there's no one to ask.
