I watched! I just didn't have time to post my thoughts in any coherent manner. Yeah, there were some dumb things that the characters did but the episode was entertaining enough that I could ignore them for the most part. It won't go down as the best episode ever, but it is far from the worst. Anyway, here are my thoughts:
- Torres admits to building car bombs while under cover and they don't ask him more about it? That's a pretty big bomb (pun intended) to drop without providing context!
- Hicks was his own worst enemy in this episode. He was either too arrogant to think he could outwit Gibbs or too stupid for even trying.
- There's no way that Fornell would be working with the garage door open in February. Even on a good day, it's not 50 degrees this time of year. And secondly, there are
leaves on the trees behind them! Give it another month before the foliage comes in!
- Fornell certainly likes rubbing it in that Gibbs got him fired from the FBI even though he was the one that tipped off the lady lawyer that Gibbs had found the witness!
- I loved how Jack told Triff he couldn't touch her coat if he wanted his hand back. It made me giggle.
- French Stewart plays a fantastic creep.
- Hicks going after the old lady was pretty stupid of him. She was the main witness that helped set him free. Anything that would happen to her would put the suspicion back on his case.
- I'm glad that Jack didn't suggest that they trust Triff but considering she was the one who found Triff fascinating, she should have been the one to back up McGee instead of Reeves. She could have used the time to study him.
- Even if the premise of bringing Triff to McGee's apartment was ridiculous, I really enjoyed McGee and Triff's interactions. French plays a fantastic psychopath and clearly enjoyed pushing McGee's buttons. And rightfully so, McGee is at his most neurotic that we've seen him in a long while.
- I'm going to chalk up some of McGee's poor decision making in this episode to sleep deprivation. He admitted to Triff that the twins are on opposite sleep cycles so he must not be getting much sleep at all. Studies have shown that sleep deprivation can be worse than being drunk.
- Loved the irony of Triff being a vegetarian furrier. Also... makes him even more creepy.
- I can't use that same excuse for Fornell though. He should have known better that Hicks would come after him. Although from the look of things, Fornell put up a good fight.
- As soon as the doorbell rang I knew Hicks was going to be there. My question is: what was he planning to do? Did he know Triff would be there? Was he expecting to find Gibbs there too and get his second bird with one stone like he told Fornell?
- Kudos to McGee for the backup under the table.
-If Triff was shot through and through, how come the bullet didn't hit McGee too? And Triff complaining about blood on his wood floors is rich. He butchered three people so badly that Tony covered the stain with his piano (no such covering is apparently in McGee's apartment though.)
- Nice detail of the red light in the trunk with Fornell. It's standard in newer cars to have some light source in a trunk plus an emergency open pull to escape the trunk if you get accidentally locked in (or locked in on purpose).
- Good for Fornell getting free and taking down Hicks. Although I did love Gibbs swooping in with the taser.
- The whole last scene with Triff and McGee had me giggling. I'm 50/50 on whether he was pushing McGee's buttons for the fun of it or if he genuinely meant some of it. Triff did take a bullet for McGee so I do think he likes Tim... if only to mess with him! I suppose if you're going to have to deal with a serial killer, at least it's a good thing if he's on your side (maybe).
- Gibbs has made some good progress on the boat.
- I'm hoping that Fornell chose to retire with his pension instead of not accepting the Bureau's offer to reinstate him. Certainly that would be an acceptable compromise to both of them. He gets his benefits and they don't have to take back an agent who hid evidence to convict Hicks even if he was guilty as sin. Plus if it means we get to see Fornell more often, I'm good with that! Harmon and Spano are great together. I would totally watch a spin off of Tobias Fornell and Associate Private Investigators!
Again, not a spectacular episode but enjoyable enough for me. I'm also glad that the Hicks case seems to be wrapped up and won't be dragged out any further. I'm also glad that we get new episodes again after a long hiatus!
