I'm with luckysmom and ballerina. Really I think all of us are hoping for the best but not really expecting it.

yes, you're just concerned with the writing, and not so much that she's leaving, I on the other hand already bought balloons and cake.

well, I guess I had that coming, fanthom...
I admit I did "crab and complain" about Abby, as you put it, and even about how foolish PP sometimes behaved in her real life, too... maybe not for all 15 seasons, but certainly for the last several years... so I can understand how you wonder why I give 2cents for her sendoff...
you know, it's not that I'll miss the Abby Sciuto character; it's more that I'm disappointed that TPTB and the writers are failing miserably in addressing PP's departure... they did the same thing when Michael Weatherly left the show, and it looks like they're about to repeat their actions with another of the "core 4"...
For a series that claims to be CBS' #1 drama, I expect better from them...
like I said, twice before now, Shalita Grant got a better sendoff written for her character, and she'd only been with NCIS: NOLA for something like 4 seasons... I know she wasn't particularly popular with some viewers, but she didn't bother me all that much...
so, I guess what I'm trying to say is I won't really miss PP or Abby, but I do think the lack of "sendoff storyline" for the 15 season character is piss-poor on the part of the writers and everyone else involved in the production of NCIS - - and that goes especially for Mark Harmon!
hope that clarifies my "concern"...

Maybe her brother Luca will get declared mentally unfit to live on his own and won't move to DC, so she has to return to NOLA to become his legal guardian. Based on the episode he was in, it doesn't seem so far fetched.

From Deadline Hollywood:
‘NCIS’ Star Pauley Perrette Talks Her Final Season And How Her Character Has Inspired Young Girls
by Dino-Ray Ramos
May 1, 2018 4:36pm
As fans brace themselves for the departure of Abby Sciuto from the CBS procedural NCIS, actress Pauley Perrette stopped by the newly minted Daytime Emmy-winning show The Talk today to reflect on her time on the popular series and the influence the character has had on audiences — specifically young girls.
In the video above, Sara Gilbert points out that Abby, a forensic scientist on the show, has had made many girls pursue a career in math, science and forensics — so much that it has been dubbed “the Abby effect.”
“Yeah, it’s been such an incredible journey, this one little fictional television character,” says Perrette. “It has been enormous and overwhelming for young girls around the world, every country in the world, and over the course of 15 years … to have modeled themselves after this TV character, and it made math and science not only a viable plan for them but it made it accessible and fun. And it inspired these girls, which has been so heartwarming.”
She adds, “These are people who, 16 years later, have gotten their degrees in science and math.”
After the interview, the ladies of The Talk surprised Perrette with a life-size sculpture of her character made of more than 400 balloons.
Perrette’s departure from NCIS was announced on October 4. In April, she happily tweeted out that she has completed her last scene on the show, which airs May 8.

The awkward moment when one of the second graders with whom I work stated that the real reason of Abby's departure was that she is still secretly in love with McGee. She was convinced that was the reason and nothing could change her mind. Not really sure why a second grader is watching NCIS, but she does and told me her opinion today about Abby leaving because she was too sad about McGee. A little awkward, but coming from a second grader her innocence was also a little cute.
