Did not see any of that coming. Me either. Now I'll be on pins and needles until next season. With the renewal being for 13 episodes starting in the spring, I'm wondering if this will be the last season, or if the ratings go up if they will keep it around as a Spring show only. From what I read about the renewal, the show does very well in Foreign markets, which is why it was picked up for the shortened season.
If that's not the case, I'm wondering if they will take the 13 episodes to slowly kill Sherlock off. And if so, will they bring Moreland, and Mycroft, and Kitty, and others back to say good-bye?

That would be a truly awful ending for Sherlock. I would like to see his father again, I really liked that character. Kitty was kind of meh for me. Did not like Sherlock's brother. Never saw chemistry between him and Watson. As far as ratings, it really picks up with the 7-day and DVR. I am guessing because most of it's audience goes to bed before 10.

Nelsan Ellis "He was a great talent, and his words and presence will be forever missed."
Nelsan Ellis, the actor who starred in HBO's True Blood as Lafayette Reynolds, has died, his manager Emily Gerson Saines, told The Hollywood Reporter.
He was 39.
"Nelsan has passed away after complications with heart failure," Saines said. "He was a great talent, and his words and presence will be forever missed."
On True Blood, Lafayette was a short order cook at Merlotte's. In the books, he was killed off, but because Ellis made him such an enjoyable character, he survived in the series.
"We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Nelsan Ellis," HBO said in a statement. "Nelsan was a long-time member of the HBO family whose groundbreaking portrayal of Lafayette will be remembered fondly within the overall legacy of True Blood. Nelsan will be dearly missed by his fans and all of us at HBO."
True Blood creator, Alan Ball said: "Nelsan was a singular talent whose creativity never ceased to amaze me. Working with him was a privilege."
Other cast members took to social media to express their heartbreak.
"I don't know if I've ever seen the level of humility and kindness that came with the Magnificent Talent that Nelsan Ellis had. Miss u friend," said Sam Trammell.
"Crushed today by the loss of my friend and castmate Nelsan Ellis. He was a wonderful person, a pioneer, and a one of a kind artist. RIP," said Joe Manganiello.
"One of the sweetest most talented men I've ever met. A terrible loss for all of us. Rest In Peace Nelsan. You will be missed. I don't know how else to put words to this terribly sad news," said Kristin Bauer.
"It was an utter privilege to work with the phenomenally talented and deeply kind soul .@officialnelsan I'm devastated by his untimely death," said Anna Paquin.
Ellis appeared in numerous film and TV shows, including The Soloist, The Butler, Get On Up and Elementary.
Ellis was born in Harvey, Ill. He attended Thorn Ridge High School in Dolton, Illinois. He later attended Oxford University and Columbia College in Chicago, before graduating from the famed Juilliard School.
Ellis is survived by his grandmother (Alex Brown), his father (Tommie Lee Thompson) and his son (Breon Ellis). He is also survived by his siblings - Lakeeia Thomson (sister), Tommie Lee Thompson (brother), Babon Ellis (brother), Maurice Turne (brother), Tianna Thompson (sister), Shaentika Beard (sister), Yvonne Ellis (sister) and Tartheaia Thompson (aunt).
His mother, Jackie Ellis, predeceased him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Jenesse Center or The Restoration Ministries Church of God and Christ.

I have been reading online articles about Nelsan the past several days. I did not know everything he had been in, and did not remember him from "The Soloist". He seemed to be extremely respected, well liked, and admired, by his peers. He will be missed.

In an article on Yahoo! today, the family of Nelsan Ellis revealed the cause of death was due to his personal attempts to kick his alcohol addiction on his own. He apparently had been addicted to drugs and alcohol for some time and had done several stints in rehab, but was never able to overcome it.
What a wasted talent.

According to that other site, Elementary will be returning April 30th. Also they have a listing for 21 episodes. Not sure how accurate that is, but I'm hoping it's true. I've missed Sherlock and Watson along with Bell and Gregson.

We have returned.
First episode in almost a year. Not a bad beginning to the season, and an interesting twist at the end. Seems Sherlock's prognosis is going to be a bit of a challenge, not dying, but not totally in control of his faculties. It was nice to see the tribute to Nelsan Ellis at the end.

Finally caught it last night. Pegged the hubby from the beginning. Loved when Joan hugged him and Sherlock said "My personality hasn't changed". I had a feeling about Sherlock's new potential sponsor when he first picked up the phone, and what a shock when we saw what his "work" was. Will be an interesting last season.

Missed last nights episode, just caught up with it. The back story with Joan and her sister was very heart warming. I wish they would have her on more, but like any guest star, they use them sparingly. I'm wondering if they will also have an episode to address John Hurt's death, since he played Joan's adoptive father.
