No. It seems it will be an ongoing story arch. I'll either have to deal with it, or stop watching. For now, I'll deal.
What I'm most surprised with is this is a show with a female lead and three females in major roles. I would have thought the support for the show would have been higher with the presence of women on this board.
But the negativity was high here before single episode was even shot, not to mention once the cast was announced and previews came out.
I'm honestly shocked and surprised by this.

Item #1: if your “major problem” is what I think it is, pd, then you realize that it seems to be a requisite for 99% of all the t.v. shows, series, and movies out there these days... and, you are right - you either deal with it or don’t watch...
Item #2: you are either a bachelor OR have been married for a very long time... in either case, you don’t understand women at all! 😂 I can’t speak for all the ladies on this board, but for me (and Maxine) personally, there is nothing wrong with having strong, female leads in t.v. and on the big screen - in fact, I applaud it! 👏👏 what bothers me is when the writers feel that a “strong woman” must equate to a “kick-azz”, “machisma” type - - a female version of “Rambo”... strong women do not have to draw blood to get their point across - spoken words can get the job done! you know, Maxine has never kicked anyone’s ass in her life - and she’s what I consider a very strong woman! 😉
so, that’s my opinion - and only my opinion - as to why there isn’t more support for this show...

So I watched the second episode yesterday and I have to say, I liked it more than the pilot. The story was interesting and I thought that they unraveled the case well. There was good action without it being over the top. I liked Ernie and the line with Tennent telling the navy officer (can't recall his name) that "she watched her agent disable a bomb today... it was a fake bomb. But it was still pretty cool," made me laugh. I probably won't watch it live due to it's time slot but it'll be a solid next day viewing option. What I'm most surprised with is this is a show with a female lead and three females in major roles. I would have thought the support for the show would have been higher with the presence of women on this board. As Nas said, I won't pretend to speak for the other ladies on this board, but I'm not going to support a show just based on the fact that it has a female lead. I support shows based on their merits. Until it aired, I couldn't pass judgment. So far, I like it enough to keep watching. There are things that annoy me and if anyone cares for my critique, I'd provide it.
I'd hope that no one would bash a show solely because it has a female lead but I'm sure it happened somewhere on the internet. Interestingly, I've been rewatching Star Trek Voyager and listening to the Delta Flyers Podcast (with Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeal aka Tom and Harry) and hearing all the backlash that the production and Kate Mulgrew (as Star Trek's first female captain) had to deal with was astounding. Of course, things were dramatically different in 1995.

NAS - I was married for seven years. The first two were actually nice. I also worked in Elementary Education for close to 30 years, a female dominated field. And there were plenty of female colleges who were more than willing to inform me of their thoughts, opinions, and view points on a variety of subjects. So I consider myself well educated when it comes to the female mind.
That being said, I'm still shocked at the negativity shown towards the show from the beginning. Your argument about not needing the lead to be a fighter doesn't hold water. The mother ship and the two spin offs have established this franchise as an action drama, therefore there will be fights, explosions, chases, and drama. Can there be leading ladies who are smart and capable of handling work and life with out beating up a bad guy? Of course. Mary Tyler Moore established that in the 70's. Another example was the Golden Girls, and all female cast with issues they resolved without punching each other out, at least on screen. Yes those were comedies, but the action genre is just that, action. So the leads are going to be doing most of the action and heroic deeds.
As Llyan pointed out, there is the aforementioned Captain Janeway who was more than capable of diplomatically talking her way out of a situation, but if necessary was also able to fire off a photon torpedo or two when necessary.
I wonder what the conversation would have been if it had been another older white male cast in the lead instead of a youngish female? Speaking of white male leads, I'm also surprised (somewhat) that there isn't a fulltime African American in the case. ( I believe NCIS:LA is the only series that has had a fulltime AA cast member since the inception of the series) I liked BoomBoom and hope he appears again, but the outcry isn't nearly what I would have expected with the notable absence of 'color' on screen. There are pacific islanders there, which was what I was hoping NCIS would replace Abby with, which would have been a major faux pa if they hadn't filled at least one role with that ethnic box ticked.
Moving on - Yes, you probably have guessed what my issue is, and yes, I recognized the PC police are celebrating right now. As we've both mentioned, I'll just have to deal, and hope it becomes only a minor distraction.
Can't remember what else I wanted to comment on. It'll come to me later.

Just watched the third episode. Good episode, they are growing the characters two or three at a time, not overloading the audience with too much background, but enough to keep one interested. No explosions this week, but the annoying son was back, though not so annoying this week.
The case was nice, intriguing, not easy to spot the killer and it hit on an emotional level. It was nice to see different characters focused on and relationship building between the team. I think if people will give this a chance it will grow into an excellent series and the audience will appreciate the stories they are telling.
Overall, I would give this episode an A.

Wife caught right away that the killer appeared to be a woman (I wasn't watching that closely)... just had to watch a while to figure out the culprit - there only seemed to be 1 possible suspect from the time she picked up her son and chewed NCIS out...

Overall, I would give this episode an A. I really liked this episode too. The interactions between the characters feel easy and natural. I really like all of the characters, even the slightly annoying teenager. As you said, the case was interesting and I liked how they solved it. It was truly a team effort.

It only took 6 days, but I finally had time to watch episode 4.
Impressive episode. Bad guy wasn't revealed until the end, head of a gang, old gang, of meth makers.
Liked the fact that Ernie has an ex who finds him attractive, (gives some of us hope). The development of the characters is progressing well. I think the writers are doing an excellent job of giving us just enough to learn about each of them, without doing a huge data dump all at once.
My observations to this point are;
Vanessa Lachey is doing a great job of being the lead agent. No outbursts of anger or emotional angst. She's calm, collected and in charge. I like her in this role.
Alex Tarrant as the new guy, a Torres take off from his first season. Moody, stand-offish, a native who's something of an outsider in his own home. He's pulling it off well and the character has real room to develop and grow. I'm really hoping they work to getting him back with his ex. I like her.
Noah Mills is our DiNozzo of the group, but much more likeable than Weatherly. The character is smart, but not a smart-aleck. A family man, which is nice, and a leader. Mills is doing a good job and the character shows promise.
Jason Antoon as Ernie could easily be a buffoon in this role, but gives the character some personality. Yes, the smart guy always likes to let other's know he's smart, but Jason isn't as annoying as McGee could be, or Abby at times. And now that they've given Ernie an ex-girlfriend, he could really shine as both a nerd and boyfriend.
Yasmine Al-Bustami as Lucy is what some would call a little fire-cracker. Capable of getting herself killed, yet able to give the right advice to the right person at the right time. Naïve yet smart and at times wise, the character could easily grow to be a fan favorite. I know they've tried to 'ship' her already, but I'm hoping they put that on the back burner and let her find her own footing before they send her off to that ever encumbersome graveyard of "relationship story telling".
Without getting into the recurring characters, Tennant's children, the Naval officer, CIA Agent, the show is looking good at this point. I'm hoping an audience will find this show and keep it on-air. I want to see how this develops.

They get a full season for starters, so they may make it for a little while longer.
Haven't watched episodes 3 and 4 because I'm not fond of that gloomy setting they have so far. Unfair to them, but compared to H5O they do not make as much out of that state as them. And since the producers or one of them are least were responsible for NCIS NOLA and did a good job in making NOLA a player as well, they disappoint so far.

I prefer they not make it a tourism add for the state. And I'll disagree with you on the gloomy set. They've done a lot with the scenery incorporating it into the story to this point. I prefer they concentrate on the story and not the setting. I'm more interested in the characters than the trees and grass. And personally, I'm not that big on water and surfing.

If they’re not going to take advantage of being in Hawaii they might as well have filmed in LA and set it in Great Lakes.

Another good episode for Hawaii. Less focus on Kai and more on other's. A nice switch and again, the characters are growing and developing into a nice cohesive team.
I liked that they nipped the relationship between Tennant and the Captain quickly. While they might have made a nice couple, this show needs to deal with romance carefully.
Liked the guest stars, especially Madeline Zima. Thought she did an excellent job with her role. I was entertain throughout most of the epsidode.
There were two negatives however. First, the Abby wannabe ME has to go. I found her annoying and irritating. Second, and this is an error on the part of the writers, but Ernie's insistence that Lucy participate in Karaoke. The lack of respect he had for her feelings and past was off putting to me. I was also disappointed that she gave into the peer pressure and got up and sang. I have no idea if Yasmine Al-Bustami can sing or not, and that isn't the point. The point is, it sends the wrong message, peer pressure can make you do something you don't like, and the lack of respect among working collogues can lead to problems down the road. Possibly this is what the producers are thinking for future conflict, but if so, they had better do a fantastic job with the story and outcome.
Just my $0.02.
