Episode 6
Another strong episode. It was good to see the focus on Tennant and her back story, or at least part of it. The manner in which the writers wove that back story into the case was also well done.
The interaction with the team is growing steadily and Whistler's re-appearance was nice, and getting to see a more human side to her was also pleasant.
Not as much focus on the quest actors this week, but there are only 42 minutes for the show so, sometimes, something has to give.
Also nice to see the children back, and it's good that the son is being written better. The introduction of the "Aunt" and former college of Tennant's also weaving into the story showed great creativity of the staff. Too bad these writer's aren't in Los Angeles working for the mother ship.
This one get's an A-

Los Angeles had a backdoor pilot. Legend. New Orleans had a backdoor pilot. Crescent City. Hawaii? No backdoor pilot/crossover. No connection to the overall NCIS universe. Even LA still refers to SecNav as she, which was established in NCIS proper. I really tried, but just can't get into it. No roots, not interested.

Just a personal opinion, but there's really no need for a crossover. Hawaii stands on its own just fine. Good cast, good writing, good acting, directing, this one excels fine for a new show.
That being said, a word from Vance once in awhile would be nice. The boss needs to keep tabs on his charges.

The Past Two Episodes:
Starting with the Pearl Harbor episode. I thought it was done in good taste and well executed. I knew a survivor of the raid, he has long since passed, but he was always emotional when briefly mentioning that day. He didn't talk about it much, but it left its emotional scars. This episode along with "Arizona" are great examples of how these shows can be written.
This past episode was again, well done. It was good to meet the father, not the jerk we might have been expecting. After the first episode, I was expecting the son to be unlikeable, but he's developing into a great character. Not over-used and a nice way to naturally drive Tennant's personal story.
The crime was creative in its execution and resolution. It was also good to see "Boom-Boom" again.
Still too much PC and diversity issues for my taste, but not so much I'll stop watching. Yet.
For everyone's complaining about the original shows' poor story-telling and bad execution, I'm still surprised this show isn't more popular with this group. It's original, creative, well written, acted, and edited. As a stand-alone network show its one of the best things on TV, though I don't get to watch much due to my work schedule, but it beats "reality" TV, the scripted "game" shows and poor attempts at talent shows. I just don't get the negativity, or maybe it's the lack of positivity. It's far and away better than "New Orleans" ever thought about being and every bit as good and the original is now with the new additions and direction of the show.
Yes, it has its flaws. Vance, as director of the agency, should be playing a part in the show instead of this imaginary Admiral that relays messages to Tennant. And no, I don't think we need a crossover with the original show. It doesn't make sense. If a team is going to work with the Pearl Harbor team it would be the San Diego branch before LA or Washington.
Anyway, just my views and opinions.

I know I've not posted about Hawaii recently, but it's not from a lack of approval of the episodes.
On the contrary. Episode 9 "Imposter", 10 "Lost", 11 "The Game", 12 and 13 "Spies" parts 1 & 2, and 14 "Broken" have all be excellent shows. Yes, there have been a couple of bumps in the road, "Legacy" and "Rescuer" being the two examples of that, but the quality of recent weeks has been excellent.
The characters have each gotten to grow some, the cases are interesting, and everyone participates in the solution.
I'm not sure why people are wishing for a crossover, it's really not needed. The show stands on its own and is an excellent show, and still would be even without "NCIS" in its name or as a lead in.
I know the episode has been shot and will be airing soon, and I will watch both, if not live, then streaming, but I will watch. And I'm sure the cast of Hawaii will do well with Torres and Knight.
Currently CBS all access makes all the episodes available for viewing, unlike other series where you can only watch the last five aired episodes for free. Take some time and view the show with an open mind.
